Raanan says that it may not be a guarantee that Alabama TE O.J. Howard ends up being drafted as high as many project, which could leave the Giants as a team to watch.

That is what makes the first round so interesting

For months experts claim who should go where and when but on draft night there are always surprises. You just never know.

if true, he's not lasting until #23.
After reading Sy's writeup, I watched some video on Howard.
Ira : 4/16/2017 5:36 pm : link
This is just me, and I don't know as much as Sy, but he seemed to play very hard and very well. I'd take him in a second if he were there at 23.
Ideal TE:

I can see shaheen going early in the 2nd. He appears to be a beast although he played against very questionable opponents. I am amazed he runs a sub 4.8/40!IMHO.
It doesn't say he is lasting until 23
SLIM_ : 4/16/2017 5:44 pm : link
It says the Giants might go in the picture. Some people were considering him top 10. Top 15 would be 'not as high as projected.

I read that as just that ... maybe the Giants will move up to get him.
If he gets past 17 the Giants MUST

investigate trade up with titans spot at 18. The Giants third round pick would make that happen according to the chart.
I did a thread on this a couple weeks ago.
wgenesis123 : 4/16/2017 5:49 pm : link
I suggested the Giants trade up with next years third round choice. That got shot down on BBI. I also suggested that TE's can slide in the draft, Howard to maybe 15 for Giants to get involved.
If he slips to 18th (or somewhere close)
JohnB : 4/16/2017 5:56 pm : link
That means all the other TEs on still on the board. Unless the Giants are COMPLETELY sold that OJH will be a superstar, why give up picks, to move up, for him? There are other highly rated TEs and the draft is very deep at that position. I'd hold all my picks and take who has dropped into their lap.
The stand pat thing sounds great until you miss out
Chris L. : 4/16/2017 6:07 pm : link
on the guy by one or two picks. Should we have stood pat to see if Landon Collins made it to our pick? The name of the game with your top picks is to accumulate difference makers. OJ Howard is a difference maker. He can catch AND run block equally well. If you told me I could have him and give up my third round pick I would do it in a minute. How many third round picks under Reese have been difference makers? The answer is none.

I hope not. At least not if it costs more than one day three pick.
# of Draft picks = overrated
annexOPR : 4/16/2017 6:30 pm : link
Get playmakers. The OT/QB prospects aren't worth it ... landing a player like him could make this offense an unstoppable force
He's one I would trade up if within reasonable range for
micky : 4/16/2017 6:36 pm : link
.
I thought Njoku could fall to Giants
annexOPR : 4/16/2017 6:47 pm : link
due to lack of teams really desperate for a TE

If Howard falls past 15 or so, Reese better be on the phone.
No way Howard makes it past 15 IMO
dpinzow : 4/16/2017 7:06 pm : link
On the other hand, Njoku and the Giants seem to be having daily conversations
there is plenty of good TE
msh : 4/16/2017 7:39 pm : link
in this draft but OT not so much,if they want one of the 2 very good OT's in this draft (ramczyk or robinson) but i could see one of the TE falling and enough later round options that i wouldnt move up for a TE ,move up for a DE,QB,RB,CB even DT if they think the value is there but i there is sufficient depth at TE to even drop into 3rd round for one if one of howard or njoku are gone by 23 there still should be engram or shaheen available without giving up picks

shaheen is a very intriguing prospect which could be the closest thing to the next grongowski available and guys like odom and everett if they go a different way early there is some viable options
I can see him falling out of top10
huygens20 : 4/16/2017 8:12 pm : link
But he's still gonna be selected by 23

On tape He literally gets dropped by first contact every single time At the point of the catch or yac. At his size and athleticism it's completely baffling.

Njoku literally runs over guys and through tackles. He's not nearly the route runner that Howard is, and is a much slower 10yd split guy, but he's got Vernon Davis written over him.
The Giants should in no way shape or form trade up
blueblood : 4/16/2017 8:19 pm : link
to get a TE in a draft that has a ton of TE's.
There's no way we'll trade up for a TE.
CT Charlie : 4/16/2017 8:52 pm : link
I think we're content with Adams, Ellison, Tye... and are looking elsewhere to strengthen the team. Njoku or Howard might be in play if available at 23, but I doubt it.
There is a reason he will drop.......
Dry Lightning : 4/16/2017 8:56 pm : link
he didn't play well in college. Two games don't make a player. This is a pick I do not want under any circumstances.

Believe it or not. There are college coaches who don't know how to use players. Case and point, Alabama and and OJ Howard.
He's had 183
Big Rick in FL : 4/17/2017 9:37 am : link
Career targets. Only 7 career TDs. That's not on the coaching staff. With that number of targets plus his size/speed/athleticism his numbers should be much better. 4 of his 7 TDs were blown coverages where he was wide open. His numbers are skewed because of multiple blown coverages against Clemson in 2015 & 2016. From 2013 to 2015 he went 23 games without a TD. Almost 2 full seasons until he had 2 against Clemson.

That's what scares me about Howard. Against teams like Western Carolina, Middle Tennessee State, Louisiana-Monroe etc etc he should be able to just physically manhandle those players. He didn't. At 23 the value is there. Top 15 I don't see it.

Yes there are college coaches that don't know how to utilize players. Nick Saban and his staff are not included in that.
'TE Howard may not go as high as projected'...
Torrag : 4/17/2017 10:05 am : link
...or then again maybe he will.

It's the Draft why bother with this kind of dung if you don't have solid info as to why.
