Sy has 79/80 grades on 3 OT players, and maybe a G or two. This translates 4th o the bottom on day 1 roughly, which is where we pick. I don't think taking an OL player at #23 is a reach, and ceryainly fills a big need.
90+ Elite, All Pro Caliber...usually don't have more than a couple of these per year.
80+ 1st round
76-79 - Day 2
72-75 - Rounds 4/5
68-71 - Rounds 6-7
Wonder how many 90's you've given in recent years and to whom and have any completely fooled you?
I seem to recall the former Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry being rated highly by Sy and then busting
Certainly not an exact science but if you were to do the research on all of Sy's picks, you might be amazed of how accurate he is overall & dead-on on some that the majority didn't! Seems kind of ridiculous to call him out on one of hundreds!

I agree. A lot of people were high on Curry in the league, so it's not like he was alone. I also recall Sy being high on Chris Borland and he was great in his one year with the niners. He also talked up a lot of the guys whom the Giants ended up picking last year (had great things to say about Shepard, Perkins, Goodson and Adams) so at least it shows his eye for talent.
2017 (no D grades posted yet)
David Njoku - 85 (I believe highest rated TE since Sy's been posting to BBI)
2016 Myles Jack - 92
Jalen Ramsey - 88
Deforest Buckner - 87
Joey Bosa - 87
Jared Goff - 86
Vernon Hargreaves - 85
2015
Leonard Williams - 89
Amari Cooper - 87
Kevin White - 85
2014 JaDeveon Clowney - 93
Justin Gilbert - 86
Calvin Pryor III - 86
Aaron Donald - 85
Sammy Watkins - 85
Jordan Matthews - 85
2013 Star Lotulelei - 91 Dee Milliner - 90 Eric Fisher - 90
Luke Joeckel - 88
Sheldon Richardson - 87
Tavon Austin - 86
Cordarelle Patterson - 85
Dion Jordan - 85
So just five 90+ grades in the 4+ years he's been posting them and 3 of those were the first year he did it so his grading may have gotten more conservative since then. BBI Draft Section - ( New Window )

I argued with Sy about Bjoern Werner, who I thought was going to be a great player in the league, and Sy said he wasn't going to amount to anything. Werner played 38 career games, last in 2015, and had 6.5 sacks. He just retired in January (is it really retiring if nobody is interested and you haven't played in the league in over a year?). The Colts had taken him at 24 overall in the 2013 draft. I liked Werner for the Giants.
Sy liked Datone Jones. He went 26th to the Packers. Just was signed by Minnesota on a prove it deal (Pack did not pick up his 5th year option). Sy was right. While Jones hasn't turned into a star, he is clearly talented and just hasn't been able to translate that with opportunity and health matching up. But at least he's still playing in the league, whereas Werner was a total bust.
and listed the first rounders with Sy's grades. His evaluations were excellent -- and better predictors of how the draft played out than those of the better known draft "experts."
