Time to nut the fuck up. That showing on Sunday was a freaking abomination and I hope the boys are disgusted enough that they come out with a fire in their belly.

Will the squad show they got something between their legs? Will we score a fucking goal on home fucking ice in the fucking playoffs? Who the fuck knows, but this is the season tonight because I don't see this squad coming back from down 3-1

No word on line-ups changes yet. It's nut up or shut up time, gents.

Let's fucking go

Also, I'm such a big Nash fan at this point. First two playoffs were rough, but he's shown up for the last three and is playing his ass off right now. Going to the net, making things happen. He's been a difference maker.

Didn't Nash have a concussion during the year prior to the playoffs his first two years here? I think that goes underreported when talking about his playoff performance. He's otherwise been a good player in April/May.

In year one, he injured his hip pretty badly.

In year two, he was concussed in like game 3 (in San Jose), missed over a month. I know concussions sometimes linger, but he had a fine regular season from call it January - April and then disappeared in the postseason. Now to his credit he was probably our best PK'r and maybe overall defender during that SC run, and his bad luck was off the charts (Are you kidding me with that convict's maybe last NHL play - Voynov - throwing his stick at a shot going in the net and somehow deflecting it high?)

...but his lack of offensive production during that Finals run cost us the Cup. The Kings had their elite guys producing, and we went nearly 5 overtime periods in that series without scoring.
Thanks, MAB.

Obviously Nash simply wasn't good enough in 14. I think there's something to be said for learning how to play in the playoffs.

It sucks. But he's playing great now.

It's funny. No matter how much playoff hockey I watch, I still always get sucked into riding too high or sinking too low after each individual game.

Game 1 - Looks like Hank can flip that switch after all... great win, got one on the road to start this off. Liking our chances.

Game 2 - Absolutely crushing way to lose. We had them beat. 17 seconds from taking both games in their building and a commanding series lead. This is probably going to come back to bite us.

Game 3 - Disgusting. We probably won't win another game in this series. Another lifeless, garbage effort at home. Fuck this.

Game 4 - Best game we played all series! Huge win. We're right back in this thing. LGR!

That or you and other Rangers fans watch the game as a Rangers fan and see things one way, which is understandable.

Here is an example:

Now Smith gets hit with a high stick and is bleeding, play on.

Quote:

Cross check to the mouth
Giants in 07 : 4/18/2017 9:42 pm : link : reply
Play on

Pish posh

whatever that even means.

so the truth is neither of those posters actually saw the play, since it was neither a high stick or a cross check that stunned Smith.

reality is when they showed the replay, Smith got hit with Byron's shoulder on contact that Smith initiated. Byron had position in front of the net and Smith skated into Byron. that's not a penalty in any hockey league, from pee-wees to the California penal.

but I'm not going to sink into a call vs call with anyone. I thought the refs were fine. Once again, not the determining factor in the outcome, but sure they missed some stuff and they will every single game. But like I said previously I was wrong to suggest anyone should stop complaining about the refs.

Actually, PJ. The commentator said it was a cross check before the replay was shown.

Forgive me for jumping the gun a bit after 3 boarding calls go uncalled right in front of the referee.

Also, you don't get the big deal about Ott trying to kick a player? Interesting. Not sure why him missing means anything. If a player swings his stick at a person's face, but misses, that shouldn't be a big deal?

but:

Good game, good win for the Rangers.

1. 2nd period was possibly the most dominant period by any team this playoffs

2. Refs were fine, sure they missed some stuff, but it was both ways. I don't care if people complain about the refs anymore. I was wrong to criticize anyone for it. My apologies. I just thought it was ironic since everyone calls the Canadiens fans whiny and I couldn't find a better definition for the fans on here. But I heard it from all my Bruins fan friends on Monday night. I guess every fan base does it, so not sure why anyone singles out Montreal. they're no worse than anyone else. but whatever, keep complaining, especially in a win. I don't care.

And the Nash goalie interference call was textbook. It would be hard to find a more obvious goalie interference call. And some of you said "I can see waving off the goal, but the penalty is BS" so then you're claiming the contact was incidental? Ok, LOL. If Hank got bowled over like that I'm sure there would be no comment.

worst call was missing the too many men, it shouldn't have been a goal because of it, but reality is the Rangers had 6 men on the ice too. The linesmen whose job it is to keep track of the players was entangled with Radulov and Skjei at the blue line. So it's at least explainable how/why it happened, but I also agree the 4th ref (the 2nd linesman) should be removed from the ice.

3. Gallagher is a hell of a player, after Price and Weber possibly Montreal's most important player. The fact he's in every Rangers defenseman head is important. When you watch them go into the corner with Gallagher in pursuit or close most won't simply try and make the normal play, they'll slow play it, so either they can get a hit on gallagher or avoid one. I've been there, any time a player gets you to alter your game it's a win for that player.

On this topic, I'm kind of glad Montreal is getting this reputation (among Rangers fans at least) I don't find their play dirty or cheap, at least not one-way and forever Montreal was "just" a finesse team.

And this whole series has been without Montreal's dirtiest player Alexei Emelin.

I like they're getting "dirty" though the 4th line was better without Ott and holy hell King is so f-ing slow. I would like to see McCarron, Mitchell and Brian Flynn with Ott and King in the press box.

4. I hope Ott gets suspended, but he didn't make contact with anyone. So not sure why the rioting on here.

5. Lastly, that Weber bullet of the post late in the 3rd was maybe as hard as shot as I've seen in an hockey game. ever. I've never been afraid of anything on the ice, and I've seen teammates careers ended by taking shots off the face (in beer league hockey you need reconstructive surgery you retire - and I've seen it happen more than few times), but I'm not sure I'd want to be anywhere near the net when Weber shoots.

6. and really lastly, I've read so many fans on here hoping for/predicting Nash to be traded this off-season. He is by far the best Rangers forward, even at his age. Maybe not always a stat sheet guy anymore, but he's such a heady player with a sniper shot and almost un-matched versatility. Not a ton of players can play first line quality minutes with responsible defense, PP and PK. Nash can do all of them and do them well. If he has a flaw it's not shooting enough, but I think that of a lot of players, fans always do. I don't think the fans have any impact on what a FO does and I think the Rangers recognize Nash's value, but I'd love to see him traded just to spite their fans.

You should be embarrassed to be a fan of that team after that display of petty thuggery/cowardice, and you embarrass yourself with your justifications of it.

LOL, cowardice? a fan calling an NHL player a coward is about a gutless as going shirtless in a dome.

I have never and would never feel embarrassment about a team I like. I guess some of you take on a persona of your team. You know you feel like when they win you win. And I guess it helps with poor self esteem or emptiness in your life.

me, I realize I'm distanced and separate from the team and my well being or success/failure has nothing to do with what the team does.

They're grown men playing a sport. the day I let the actions or play of a group of grown men I have zero connection to effect me I become....like you I guess.

Thank god it will never happen.

Yes, I chose the word "cowardice" carefully. Nobody's questioning any hockey player's toughness. Toughness and cowardice are not mutually exclusive. Example: When you attempt to lacerate someone whose back is turned with your skate? Yeah, cowardice, that covers it.

The unfortunate thing that happened for games two and three was Glass scoring in game one. Probably justified the move in his mind.

It was the GWG, and they had game two in hand, so it wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Really well said. I've been the same way. I do still think that game 2 is going to be really tough to overcome. Not just blowing it with 18 seconds left, but scoring 3 goals in that game on Carey Price and not coming away with anything is hard to overcome at this time of year.

I am really pumped to watch Washington-Toronto tonight. Nothing better than enjoying an off-day watching other playoff teams go at it the day after your team wins. After we lose I can barely get myself to watch other games, but tonight its carefree and hoping the Capitals choke continues (I don't think it will... but then again I had Boston and Chicago in the final 4 and that predictions not looking so hot)

Yup - even though we're all knotted up, Game 2 is still really bugging me. When Weber's shot rang off the post last night close to the same exact point/situation, I nearly had a stroke. If that had gone in, I probably would have lost my mind.

Agree but was also surprised when they chose Boston/Ottawa Saturday 3pm instead of NYR/Montreal at that time this past weekend (both had played game 1 on Wednesday night)

I guess the Celtics having home playoff games played a part, but NHL playoffs started before NBA so they could have worked around it.

It's nice that even if this series goes 7 we end two days before all the game 7s wrap up... we'd have 3-4 days off as round 2 wont start before Thursday (Friday if Boston/Ottawa goes the distance, which it might).

Maple Leaf Gardens and Nash
ColHowPepper : 1:02 pm : link
even when the Leafs were good used to be, and AC Center has mostly been, a quiet building. Not any more. Tonight should be fun.

I've been loving me some Nash for some months. He and McD have become quite attuned to each other, whether on McD break out passes at his own BL or as last night.

Also very important to this Rangers' team, I think, is Nash's increasingly significant emotional connection and it's rubbing off on the younger players. His body language on the ice speaks for itself, but off ice, beneath the measured, statesmanlike speaker that he is, you can feel the intensity and bond.

Honestly, after his goal last night was probably the most animated I've ever seen Rick Nash or was at least close. He's always been a very low-key guy - but I think he realizes the importance of this and how big that goal was for us.

He looks like a guy who doesn't want this season to end any time soon and is going to do everything he can to keep playing well into the spring. Love what I'm seeing from him.

He is playing well, but man we've got to get these Centers going. We have just 7 goals on Carey Price in almost 13 periods of hockey. I think the 4th line has 3 of those goals and Grabner has another. We have to start solving him, which means Stepan / Mika / Hayes (and Kreider / Miller) really need to join us this series.

Hopefully Weber will start somehow wearing down (I doubt it but a man can dream). He's been logging Duncan Keith minutes this series (nearly 30/game).
Agree.
arcarsenal : 2:06 pm : link
Tough series for Step and Mika especially so far. Those guys really need to get going. I thought Zib was a little better last night - but we still need more from him.

On the plus side, Girardi has been passable. I'd even venture to say he's been pretty good in most of these games.
The Rangers definitely lack a physically dominating Center.

His sv% against PIT last year was just about right on the nose of his career number - I didn't think he was particularly bad. Murray wasn't really any better than he was in that series.

Holtby hasnt been great in this series vs. TOR - but he's also faced more shots than any other goaltender in these playoffs which is probably worth noting.
