I’ll probably get more neither on this.
I have been a strong advocate for get Eli more assets around him be it. OL, RB or TE.
I posted the other day half tongue in cheek for a laugh and half to appease the QB advocates:
“7th Rd. Predetermined before the draft
Jerry’s torn between, we only need a few more pieces to win one more ring with Eli, and, OMG, I only have Geno Smith, if Eli falls off a cliff.
Days before the draft: Uncle Jim Kelly, Calls Archie. Archie brokers a deal with Reese.
Dad calls Eli.
“Son, I just got off the phone with Reese. I got him to agree to not take Trubitsky, Watson, or Mahonnes, and to get you more help. Although you might still be ducking under 300 lbers tryingto take your head off. The bad news is, ‘remember that smart ass, Chad Kelly, who broke a couple of our Ole Miss records’? Part of the deal is you have to make room in your basement for him to live, and you have 3 years to teach him how to grow up.”
End of of the story. Eli, wins 2 more rings in the next 3 years. Takes a public speaking class from Strahan, and replaces Aikman on Fox. Chad marries one of Tom Coughlin’s granddaughters, matures, and keeps us relevant past my life expectancy.”
However, the more I delve into Mahonnes, the more I’m impressed with this kid.
Thoughts?
Stock up on players who can help Eli win another Lombardi Trophy.
How could I argue with a HC who used to be a QB coach and who has enough of a conviction about a prospect as to stake his future on Mahomes' development?
It's hard to argue this, although Gino seems very stupid, so its difficult to see him have the mental capacity to be a successful NFL QB. Saying that Nassib was pretty awful. I myself have no doubt if Geno gets playing time (please hope not), he'll play better than he ever has. He has a lot to prove and I don't think he ever enjoyed playing for the Jets.
I would love to see the beef in this draft if the value is there. 1 or 2 Edge guys, 1 DT and 1 or 2 OL. I think we could feel pretty good if we land 4-5 lineman to help on both sides. Another CB LB and or RB and I'd be on board.
I wouldn't be surprised if New Orleans takes him in the 2nd if he's still available. He's a project, and he could sit behind Brees.
I'd take Chad Kelly in the 7th.

Guy on the NFL Network has him going to the Cards in the first round
I would love to get him at 23.
I know the QB class is stronger next year but I hope the Giants are picking at 32, which gives you little hope of getting the top 5 QBs next year.
He is a risk but has so many intangibles.
Geez Rick, I thought you might at least appreciate my 7th Rd. Archie story.
1) Possibilty of selecting him at #23
2)Smokescreen
3)possibilities of other teams looking to move up to select him which would
Mean maybe the first time Reese trades down which in my estimation is the thing to do if possible. To me the players between pick 23 and pick 60 are all the same value. 2 extra picks in between rounds 2 and 4 are just what the doctor ordered for us !
