Chad Kelly 6th, 7th Rd. or Pat Mahonnes 1st or 2nd?

GMen23 : 4/18/2017 2:57 pm
I’ll probably get more neither on this.

I have been a strong advocate for get Eli more assets around him be it. OL, RB or TE.

I posted the other day half tongue in cheek for a laugh and half to appease the QB advocates:

“7th Rd. Predetermined before the draft

Jerry’s torn between, we only need a few more pieces to win one more ring with Eli, and, OMG, I only have Geno Smith, if Eli falls off a cliff.

Days before the draft: Uncle Jim Kelly, Calls Archie. Archie brokers a deal with Reese.
Dad calls Eli.

“Son, I just got off the phone with Reese. I got him to agree to not take Trubitsky, Watson, or Mahonnes, and to get you more help. Although you might still be ducking under 300 lbers tryingto take your head off. The bad news is, ‘remember that smart ass, Chad Kelly, who broke a couple of our Ole Miss records’? Part of the deal is you have to make room in your basement for him to live, and you have 3 years to teach him how to grow up.”

End of of the story. Eli, wins 2 more rings in the next 3 years. Takes a public speaking class from Strahan, and replaces Aikman on Fox. Chad marries one of Tom Coughlin’s granddaughters, matures, and keeps us relevant past my life expectancy.”

However, the more I delve into Mahonnes, the more I’m impressed with this kid.

Thoughts?
Neither.

None, but if you have to, then Seth Russell in the 6th or 7th.
No QB this year, period.

No wasted picks.

Stock up on players who can help Eli win another Lombardi Trophy.
I like Chad

Worth a flier in the 6th.
Am I the only one who thinks the Giants

are currently in better position if Eli goes down than they were last year with the addition of Geno Smith?
Chad Kelly

Has a lack of leadership ability. You can't have a QB that doesn't have leadership traits. You have to have the respect of your teammates, and I don't know if I trust him to do that or that he has the temperament to be successful and a winner, especially in the New York market.
I'd be happy with Mahomes in the 1st or Webb in the 2nd.

I'd likely prefer an immediate starter at OL, or some great player who drops (Peppers, Cook, McCaffery, perhaps Foster) but I'd be fine with Mahomes if McAdoo feels that he can mold him into a top starting QB.

How could I argue with a HC who used to be a QB coach and who has enough of a conviction about a prospect as to stake his future on Mahomes' development?

It's hard to argue this, although Gino seems very stupid, so its difficult to see him have the mental capacity to be a successful NFL QB. Saying that Nassib was pretty awful. I myself have no doubt if Geno gets playing time (please hope not), he'll play better than he ever has. He has a lot to prove and I don't think he ever enjoyed playing for the Jets.
QB in the first or second makes little sense to me
GuzzaBlue : 4/18/2017 3:27 pm : link
considering what we want for the next two years (another ring for Eli). The QB most likely will not touch the field for 3 years and you want to fill as many holes and get as many shots at premier talent to surround Eli. Also, consider that Pugh and Fluker's contracts are up after this year. The line could look very scary, a alot worse than today, if we do not invest in young talent on the OL.

I would love to see the beef in this draft if the value is there. 1 or 2 Edge guys, 1 DT and 1 or 2 OL. I think we could feel pretty good if we land 4-5 lineman to help on both sides. Another CB LB and or RB and I'd be on board.
Josh Dobbs in the 3rd or 4th

if he makes it that far

said he's heard Mahomes could go top 10. (He was kind of incredulous.)

I wouldn't be surprised if New Orleans takes him in the 2nd if he's still available. He's a project, and he could sit behind Brees.
Mahomes

I think Mahomes arm talent won't let him out of round 1.

I'd take Chad Kelly in the 7th.

Guy on the NFL Network has him going to the Cards in the first round
Love Mahomes

I think he fits with NO at 13 if not at 32
I would love to get him at 23.
I know the QB class is stronger next year but I hope the Giants are picking at 32, which gives you little hope of getting the top 5 QBs next year.

He is a risk but has so many intangibles.
Mahomes

Is going to go top 15. He's a very smart kid with great athleticism and an insane arm. I could see him going as high as 6 to the Jets.

Geez Rick, I thought you might at least appreciate my 7th Rd. Archie story.
There's almost no chance that Kelly is even on the Giants' board
Gatorade Dunk : 4/18/2017 8:30 pm : link
So it's Mahomes or neither. Kelly is in Easter Bunny/Santa Claus territory.
I think that Jerry Reese expects Mahomes to
NikkiMac : 4/19/2017 11:47 am : link
Possibly be there at 23 which is why he sent Macadoo there to go look at his workout I don't think Macadoo did that on his own

1) Possibilty of selecting him at #23

2)Smokescreen

3)possibilities of other teams looking to move up to select him which would
Mean maybe the first time Reese trades down which in my estimation is the thing to do if possible. To me the players between pick 23 and pick 60 are all the same value. 2 extra picks in between rounds 2 and 4 are just what the doctor ordered for us !
If Webb is there in the 3rd I 'd take a flyer on him
PatersonPlank : 4/19/2017 12:22 pm : link
He could turn into a real NFL QB
