If Reese is tempted to trade up into the top ten picks

wgenesis123 : 4/18/2017 7:04 pm
of round two, who will be there? Trading up for Landon Collins in 2015 now appears to be a great move by Reese. If the right player is still there I think its the LB Cunningham or the Miami TE whose name I can't spell. Nioku I think.
Stay put and take Adam Shaheen

Unless they nab Howard or Njoku in round 1...

Trade up would have to be for a 1st round talent and OL or DE that dropped unexpectedly... can't see them making the move for any other positions

It would cost them their 3rd round pick...

...to move up to the 39th or 40th pick from the 55th pick. I think the 55th pick represents the best relative value of all our draft picks, but if someone slipped that they absolutely loved (i.e, he was in consideration for the 23rd pick) I could see it.

Two examples would be if they grabbed an OL with the 23rd pick and then saw one of the ER they liked slipping (i.e., TJ Watt, Jordan Willis, Tyus Bowser from Sha Na Na). Another example is if they don't go OL with the 23rd pick and feel the need to get one in round two before they all disappear (i.e., Dawkins, Garcia).

I would hate to give up that 3rd round pick. When I look at draft boards around the internet I always see interesting names still available with the 87th pick. If the Giants gave up the 55th and 87th picks to get to the 40th pick, it would be a 100-pick wait until their next selection. That would be painful to sit through.
It cost our 2nd (swap), 4th, and 7th to move up seven spots.
Klaatu : 4/18/2017 7:20 pm : link
Now you're talking about moving up at least twelve spots. No idea what it would cost, but I'd definitely consider it.
The Giants would have to give up way

Too much to jump that far, and there is no one in this year's draft worth such a move

Evan Engram, Jordan Willis, Tyus Bowser or Malik McDowell..

If one of Davis, Cunningham, Robinson, Bolles, Ramzyck, Lamp, Cook, Njoku or someone unexpected falls add them too..
Reese gets aggressive after round one.

He has to consider moving up and get a feel for what it will cost. How far he can move up and for who are the big questions he has to answer.
If you can move up to say pick 40..
est1986 : 4/18/2017 7:32 pm : link
And it only cost you your 4th roundet and the 55th pick do it, for the rigH player.. But if they want 55th and 87th then we better get a 4th rounder back as well..
Shaheen is an interesting name.
wgenesis123 : 4/18/2017 7:34 pm : link
I read some good things about him, but have no feel for how good a player he is.
RE: It cost our 2nd (swap), 4th, and 7th to move up seven spots.

Not according to the trade value chart. If the Giants packaged their 2nd round (#55), 4th round (#140), and 5th round (#167), that only gets them to the 49th pick.
Giants do poorly in round 3
Steve in South Jersey : 4/18/2017 7:37 pm : link
I would be more than willing to use it to trade up.

Not really the same... Pick 33 is going to cost more than, say pick 43. Obviously. But that doesnt mean the Giants will have to give up more than 55 and a 4th to get there.. It also depends on whos availible, that can effect the trade price as well..
The trade value chart is only a guide.
wgenesis123 : 4/18/2017 7:48 pm : link
It can cost much more or even less than the guide says to trade up. Circumstance can influence the price.
i read a couple weeks ago that there is great interest in pick 33
wgenesis123 : 4/18/2017 7:50 pm : link
this year. If true, the price for that pick could go up.
Cost is excessive

Winning can be expensive!
wgenesis123 : 4/18/2017 8:02 pm : link
Is there a player that takes the Giants offense or defense to a new level? A playmaker that wins a couple big games. A tackle that turns Bad Eli into Good Eli!
I see no problem
Doomster : 4/18/2017 8:38 pm : link
trading up with a 3rd or 4th round pick, to get someone we really want......after the first two rounds, the talent level just drops off and it becomes luck.....

I asked Dave that scenario about shaheen in the second he was all over the idea. I've read up a lot on him and he's a day 1 receiving threat. Dave called him "baby gronk". He lacks blocking ability even for a man of his size but he's raw and should be able to learn that skill quickly. Would love this guy in the second and draft either Davis, bolles, lamp, bowser, Willis round 1
The Giants should stay put or even move down
Jay on the Island : 4/19/2017 9:15 am : link
Next year is the year to move up to get one of the top QB's.
i dont understand all of this cunningham hype
BlackburnBalledOut : 4/19/2017 10:27 am : link
cunningham is one hell of an athlete but he cant tackle. hes a fast guy but he cant hold the point of attack or get low enough to be a decent tackler in the nfl. he excelled in college due to his speed, not his tackling ability.

take a look at his highlight reel, he comes in high almost always. that wont transfer to the nfl. stay away from this kid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaQor41Bgkk

as for njouku, id pass on him as well. i get the feeling he will be another eric ebron

Wouldn't it be better to acquire more picks
NikkiMac : 4/19/2017 12:53 pm : link

I'd bet my left nut that they won't trade down.

Besides, the current Giants regime seems to be better with the early picks than the later ones. Trading back might get us a bunch of misses.

There's always calls to trade down, and it makes little sense to me with this team.
