Theory time.
Aaron hernandez was actually guilty of double murder. He spoke about the crime to Odin(while drunk possibly). Kills Odin in a panic because he is afraid Odin will reveal the truth. Found guilty of Odin's murder. Found innocent on the charge of double murder. Turns out he killed Odin for nothing. Ended up getting life. Couldn't handle the fuck up he committed. Killed himself.

Doubtful. I remember reading about the substantial legal fees that he accumulated for the first murder trial. That speculated that he was almost out of money and before the double murder trial began.

I'm having trouble picturing this suicide. Hung himself with a bed sheet tied to a window in his cell? Google images of the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center. I don't see any cells where you could hang yourself. Are you telling me he had some special cell with vaulted ceilings or something, with the window 8' off the ground?

Sounds more like an "assisted" suicide to me.

But when I saw the headline, my first reaction was sadness. I would've been less sad to read that he got the electric chair. I'm no expert on the subject but it seems to me that anyone who commits suicide must be in a tremendous amount of pain and it makes me sad to imagine that kind of pain. The fact that it is deserved is a separate issue.

I have the same doubts. What I can't get past though is the door being barrackaded from the inside to make entry a longer process. I don't know how someone does that and then leaves the cell?

Apparently people do it this way all the time which is puzzling to me since your natural instinct is to just stand up. I honestly don't know how (physically) someone can hang themselves while also being able to at the same time prevent themselves from dying.

BB did evaluate 'everything' a few years back.
That is why there were very STRONG rumors in Beantown
that he mentioned to this P.O.S., to kinda hang out at his
'flophouse' while things were getting a bit heavy.
Now again these were rumors, and I am just the messenger.
Don't shoot the messenger, OR do your own research.
I respect BB for what he has accomplished,
but I don't have this nostalgic love for the guy,
just because he was once the DC around here.
That stuff is ancient history to me.

If Hernandez still had an appeal pending as of his death, then his death likely wipes out the legal effect of the conviction. Meaning Lloyd's family wouldnt be able to get AH's money easily by saying that he's been convicted criminally and therefore cant contest the civil suit.

This happened with Ken Lay of Enron. His death "vacated" his conviction, which made it harder for the government to get fines assessed. Not sure whether the government even pursued it after his death.

I think it goes a bit deeper than that. Not that I disagree, but he wasn't just thrown into this life once he was famous. He's a well known thug from upstate CT with ties to gangs for virtually his whole life. Playing under Meyer at a large program 1,000 miles away probably got him away from that life for a bit, but then he got drafted back to essentially where he grew up.

I'm speculating the timeline of events, but it does match up with how things have gone for him. This was a life he chose long before football at Florida and one that I'm guessing was either hard for him to get out of or that he didn't want to get out of.

That prison he killed himself at, is only about 15 minutes away from where I live. The hospital they brought him to,
is less than 10 minutes away.
I thought the P.O.S. was in Walpole myself.
That facility wasn't even a correctional facility back in the day.
A little story if I may, that facility was actually more
of a reform school back in the day. For some stupid reason,
I recall our JV basketball coach (he was a first year coach)
scheduled a damn scrimmage game in there. It was kinda weird, no trouble, but still a weird experience when you are about 15.

LOL. Not sure Arlo Guthrie is an accurate source! I know suicides aren't rare in prison. But I'd think hangings are these days.
Also, barricading the door? My knowledge of cells is relegated to movies, but I've always seen cell doors slide open or open outward.

Zimmerman needs to die a slow, painful death.

News flash - Zimmerman was found not guilty - Martin was the aggressor because he thought Zimmerman was a gay rapist, sucker punched him, broke his nose and then proceeded to bash his head into the concrete which the evidence and eye witness collaborated. He was doing this all while trying to protect his neighborhood from a rash of robberies. The media tried to portray him as racist (edited audio, white hispanic) and portray Martin as an innocent 12 year old boy. You fell for it.

We don't we just say that the introduction of Zimmerman into the thread was a non sequitur and just move on?

On Hernandez, I went to HS with his dad who was one of the best 3-sport athletes we had in those days. He was a really nice and good guy back then. Tragically, he died, just keeled over IIRC, when Aaron was fairly young. I doubt it had an effect on Aaron becoming a murderer but you never know. Anyway, I just wanted to say that the stock was good but you never know about the final product.

I'd rather it be George Zimmerman.

Lol. What looney tunes site are you getting this from? Also, I think Zimmerman's subsquent behavior makes clear who was the nut job. Spoiled little rich kid whose father bails him out of trouble. But he will get his someday. Little assholes like that usually do.

How is this a stain on the Patriots?

Why would/should it affect anyone when it comes to doing their job?
Obviously, Hernandez was upset that,
Doomster : 4/19/2017 2:49 pm : link
they were not going to give him permission to go to the White House today, in Brady's place....
Not sure how it reflects on the Patriots.....
WideRight : 4/19/2017 3:12 pm : link
Apparently everyone knew he had gang related issues prior to college. And he shot a man in the face while at the U and got away with it. I think thats why he dropped to the fourth round where the Patriots picked him up. Is that a stain?

Logan Mankins, who sat next to Hernandez in the locker room, announced to the press BEFORE the murders that Hernandez does not represent "Patriot values" in any way. Openly airing concerns for the dirt bag did not stop the Patriots from resigning him. Is that a stain?

Once his personal problems overwhelemd his professional value, they completely abandoned him. Is that a stain?

I don't think its a stain per se, I think thats Bill B's way, and Kraft endorses it. That wouldn't happen on most other teams.

Yeah... the daughter angle makes this a more tragic tale than otherwise. There isn't much of a tear to shed on Hernandez's behalf, but that girl is still a four year girl who will never see her dad again.
Its just sad

The whole thing is sad for many people on many levels. Sad to see such promise wasted. He did it to himself, but it is still very sad. This is not a lesson - people should not need a "lesson" to not kill people. Some will say good riddance. It is easier than dealing with the reality that people can be so broken that they reach the point of doing the things he did. Not a loss - just sad.
My point.

"Once his personal problems overwhelmed his professional value, they completely abandoned him. Is that a stain?"

How many kids have we taken a flyer on that didn't pan out because of personal problems overwhelming their professional value? Not to that level but, we did have to get rid of a conic abuser last year. We took in a known drunk to get us in a Super Bowl. Worked out for everyone that time. Except for winning it.

All types a businesses take a flyer on a young person with questionable backgrounds. Sometimes it works out and you are lauded for taking a chance and giving a second chance. Other times it doesn't and you're an idiot for giving anyone a second chance. You should have banned them to hell.

Pick your poison.

i don't think its a stain on the Pats
UConn4523 : 4/19/2017 4:29 pm : link
and if there is, it isn't close to what they did with actual cheating.

There's tons of guys with questionable backgrounds, we just see more of it up front now. While 2010 doesn't seem like that long ago, it is when it comes to social media and they way sports has been reported on.

Twitter started in 2006 but didn't really become mainstream until right around 2010 when Hernandez was drafted. Instagram launched after he was drafted, and sports reporting wasn't that big of a thing on Facebook.

Now every story is viral. If Hernandez had that same background and entered the NFL Draft in 2017 I'm guessing he goes un-drafted.

His personal problems go above the norm that one would deal with like a dug problem. Once he charged with murder, he should be completely, 100% abandoned.

Since he was appealing the Odin lloyd murder and died he now is presumed innocent therefore his remaining assets go to his daughter and his fianc.

Could this be the reason why he killed himself? Can someone clarify this info please.

Mike in Long Beach : 4/19/2017 5:59 pm : link
perhaps the greatest NFL QB of all time in Tom Brady, and despite the shitshow pro career, he also caught passes from one of the greatest college QBs of all time in Tim Tebow.

He's had an opportunity, at least professionally to be amongst some of the best influences in the world; you could argue no one would've asked for more in that regard. The whole thing has been awful from the start. Anyone with the rage he had inside him is clearly mentally ill (and note, this is not to say he isn't responsible for his actions). It would've been so good for so many if he could've found his way.

He's appealing. He's not presumed innocent until a judge overturns his conviction.
At the end of the day
djstat : 4/19/2017 6:15 pm : link
The Patriots gave him a chance. Despite the rumblings and rumors, he had no convictions. They believed they could work with him. He produced. They cut him immediately when he was arrested. They didn't wait to let it go through the courts, they cut ties. They are not responsible the same way any company is not responsible for an employees outside actions.

He was convicted in a court of law. He was a murderer. He was a piece of garbage. That said, I feel for his daughter. That is the tragedy.

While he had a big win in court, its possible he was out of money and would no longer be able to fight his conviction. Possibly guilt? The theory that he realized he killed Lloyd for nothing? Possible. Or maybe just coming to grips he was 27 years old and was in prison for life after he was a millionaire living the good life.

Time in prison changes a lot of people and mentally weak people struggle. Say what you want about him, he was mentally weak. No coping skills, sociopath etc.

It's called abatement ab initio
pjcas18 : 4/19/2017 6:17 pm : link
meaning "from the beginning". In other words his status reverts to what it was before any trial took place (aka innocent).

The premise is if the defendant is not alive to defend themselves any conviction must be overturned/vacated.

Only a handful of states have this and it's probably the right thing to do per rule of the law (innocent until proven guilty), but very disrespectful to victims families.

Massachusetts has some infamous cases where convictions wee overturned ab initio. Including the head of the Boston diocese who was convicted of raping or molesting dozens of children. Ironically killed in the same prison as Hernandez.

And just in case it wasn't covered in the thread...many people are questioning the "suicide".

I don't know, maybe one of the attorneys like Dune or Deej (? I think he's an attorney) can comment.

OJ was found not guilty, but then still lose a wrongful death civil suit to the Goldman family for something like $30M. So no idea how this protects his money. But many people have said it.

pj: I dont believe it will protect his assets. Llyod's estate can still sue AH's estate for damages, I believe. Where it hurts Lloyd's estate is that normally, once you're convicted of a crime, you cannot claim in the subsequent civil case that you didnt do it (note: some states dont allow this use of a conviction in a civil case). On the theory that you had the incentive to fight it and were convicted at a higher burden of proof.
