Jets-Browns trade in the works?

There have been plenty of rumors about the Browns are targeting a quarterback with one of their early selections in the 2017 NFL Draft. There also has been a lot of talk that the New York Jets would like to trade down from the sixth-overall pick in the draft. WalterFootball.com has learned from sources that the Browns and Jets are talking about a trade that would have the Browns moving up from the 12th pick to the Jets' selection at No. 6 in order to take a quarterback. Cleveland is said to want North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

In order to move down, the Jets want the 33rd-overall pick (second round) and the selection at No. 108 (fourth round). Those are the first choices on the second and third days of the draft. Leading off those days of the draft, New York would have some highly coveted picks that could allow them to trade down again with a team that is desperate to land a player they didn't think would make it to that spot.

Both teams have a lot of holes. But the Browns have a bunch of picks this year and next. The Jets don't. So the deal makes sense for both teams.

That would be a great trade for the Jets.
Im glad that they are not after Oswieler

Jets get two 2nds and two fourths. not bad.
So the Browns
Beezer : 4/20/2017 8:47 am : link
move up six picks. Lose the 33rd pick AND the 108th pick.

Makes sense.

But

The Jets will find a way to screw it up.

Haha well played
Meh.

Whatever the merits of the trade, because it's being made by the Jets and the Browns, you know it will be a failure for both teams.
Maybe they trade down to take

They can afford to pay a premium.
They should have..
Chris in Philly : 4/20/2017 8:57 am : link
just taken Wentz last year.
The Browns should give up
I Love Clams Casino : 4/20/2017 9:03 am : link
actively pursuing QB's. They should just take whoever falls to them if he's the BPA at the time they pick -

They'd probably get a HOF'er
How awsome would it be if they
superspynyg : 4/20/2017 9:04 am : link
made the trade now (before the draft) and either SF or another team jumps the Browns to take Mitch T. That would be a fitting end for the Browns.
the Jets make out well
UConn4523 : 4/20/2017 9:05 am : link
as it likely means they are smartening up, not forcing a QB and will work on making the rest of their roster better. Normally I'm not a big trade down fan but they have no shot contending or even making the playoffs next year so there's little risk with this strategy.

For the Browns, they have the picks, but I feel like they should be doing this next year instead.
Browns' GM
Pete in MD : 4/20/2017 9:15 am : link
Kevin Costner at it again!
The Browns have it made this year...

Basically 3 1st rd picks with 1 being the top pick. I would keep those and take Garrett, Trubisky if he's there at 12 (not probably), but I like Watson the most regardless, so I would take him right there if they want their QB this year which I don't think they need. Then at the back end of the first you'll have another good shot at premier talent and a whole day to think about it.

I understand if Trubisky is their guy then trade and get him, but just seems like the worst year for them to do it. Especially with their talent situation. With such a deep talented draft you never know who will be there at 33.

I'm personally not blown away by any of the QB's this year, but I'd take Watson over any of them. Browns could get 3 Stud position players this year at the least, stink again for a year (which they'll do regardless) and worry about QB in next year's class when you have more of a talented roster and a top pick again.

Ah ha ha! Good one.
the jets and the browns doing anything together
BlackburnBalledOut : 4/20/2017 10:46 am : link
just sounds awful. all kinds if things are going to go wrong on both sides. idk if the league should allow it, in the name of protecting both franchises from their own futility
I think they got it wrong
Milton : 4/20/2017 11:22 am : link
I'm guessing it's the 52nd pick and not the 33rd pick that the Browns would be packaging in the trade up.

I also wonder if it's not Trubitsky, but Garappalo that is the target for the Browns with the 6th pick (i.e, the Patriots wanted the first pick in the draft for him, the Browns wanted to only give up the 12th pick in the draft for him, so the 6th pick is their compromise).
I'm sorry but the Browns are fools
Jay on the Island : 4/20/2017 11:25 am : link
They did a great job accumulating draft picks. What they should do is build up the rest of the team and wait until next year to get one of the stud QB's who are much better than Trubisky.
According to the nfl trade value chart,
Ira : 4/20/2017 11:25 am : link
the Jets are asking for too much. Regardless of what's said about the trade value chart not always being followed - it almost always is.
Remember what the Jets traded to the Browns to get the Sanchize?

The chart is baloney, trades like this all depends on the teams view of the draft class IMO.

Yeah, the chart is always subject to how much a team wants to move up. It's not etched in stone.

agree. next year's QB class is much more promising. If I'm the Browns I continue to build the defense. Nothing would help next year's #1 QB draft pick like a solid defense (ask Big Ben)
