NFT: 4.20 Yankee Thread

kash94 : 4/20/2017 11:48 am
Another great win yesterday! 4 more HR for the Yankees who now lead the AL in HR (third in the MLB). Tanaka didn't have his "A" stuff yesterday but had his best start, at least statistically, of the season.

No game tonight with a three game series against the Pirates starting tomorrow.

A few other notes:
1- The Yankees' 8-1 start at home was the franchise's best record across any homestand since 2009.

2- Hicks continues his hot stretch. 4 of his last 5 hits have been HR.

3- The Yankees now have the best BP ERA in the majors at 1.27. They are also third in opponents' batting average (.176).

4- Mentioned yesterday, but Didi is starting rehab games on Friday while Sanchez started to throw yesterday. No issues with either so far.

5- Also mentioned yesterday, but Gleyber is on the 7 day DL with tendinitis

Also how could I not

mentioned Judge?

Absolute bomb of a HR yesterday. Since the start of the 2015 season, the Yankees, as a team, have hit 9 HR with an exit velocity of 115+ MPH. Judge has 6 of them.

1010 WINS was playing a couple of clips from the White Sox radio broadcast by Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone of the Judge HR. These guys were agog, it was comical.
I've been blown away by Judge so far.

Sanchez, Bird and Judge make for some serious freaking power in our lineup.

funny thing: at the original Stadium, 451 to left center would have been a triple or a very long out.
Someone needs to start printing thr Judge

poking around Statcast
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 12:17 pm : link
2015 - Greg Bird was sixth in MLB in average exit velocity
2016 - Judge led MLB in exit velocity, Sanchez was ninth
2017 - Judge is ninth in exit velocity

When all of these guys are hitting together? That's going to be something special.

Judge has hit six of fifteen hardest-hit balls of 2017. No one else is on that list more than once. Kind of funny, though, that he's only ninth in average exit velocity then. Guess he's hit too many squibbers.

457 but who is counting.. 463 (or sometimes 461) to straight away center.

Agreed. Was watching SC this AM and Stanton hit a bomb to CF that was measured at 448. It was a bomb, but it didn't look nearly as far as Judge's. Stanton's was a line drive whereas Judges was a moon shot which effects expected distance, but Judge's look so much further.
oh, this is too funny
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 12:22 pm : link
The Statcast leaderboard has a "Chapman Filter" button so you can see how hard everyone else is throwing, since Chapman literally is the only name on the 2015 and 2016 boards, and has the majority of the 2017 positions as well.
I'm guilty of jumping off the Judge bandwagon too soon.
bceagle05 : 4/20/2017 12:24 pm : link
Part of it was being spoiled by Bird and Sanchez tearing things up immediately upon MLB call-up, and part of it was just some prospect fatigue. Judge wasn't a guy who skyrocketed to the majors (I believe he's 25), so I lowered my expectations. Don't want to jump to any conclusions yet, but it sure looks like he'll be a 30+ homer guy for quite awhile.
finally amusing Statcast observation
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 12:27 pm : link
You know who hit the longest homer in MLB in 2015? Jake Arrieta! Seriously.

It's not like Judge spent an eternity in the minors. He only spent 2.5 seasons on the farm before being called up last year. He's 25 now because he was drafted out of college.

Sanchez on the other hand actually spent 6+ seasons in the minors, but is only 24 because he was signed at 17.

I know what the distance was at the old yard. Judge's dinger was estimated at 451,
Judge isn't 25 yet
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 12:50 pm : link
He gets to be 24 for five more days. Stop rushing him!

456 was the old stadium left center fence, 461 was dead center.
Sorry

It was 457 and 461 to dead center.

What's the best value ticket out there? It's been 17 years since my last trip to see a Yankees home game, and I'd really like to go with my dad and my son. I don't have huge money to spend but I don't want to sit in the bleachers either. I'd like to keep it below $50 if I can.

I like to sit in the upper deck behind home plate section 420B I think those tickets are $ 28 a piece .You see the whole field ,I used to sit in the bleachers but its not the same in the new stadium so I sit in 420B plus the cheesesteaks are right there lol

Since getting hot he's 0-8 with 5 Ks and is now hitting .190.

Kid caught crap for supposedly wanting #7 yet the press never talked about him wearing #5 after being demoted. The Mick is one thing, Joe D another level. I saw it and met his dad (looks just like him with little age difference although dad is built like a PED brick shit house) in Tampa. Based on wearing number and speaking with dad, they need to relax, let it happen and succeed.

Literally every single time you post on a Yankee thread it's to shit on Frazier. You have some serious issues man. I'm not sure what your absolute obsession is with him, but my guess the other day about him stealing your wife is looking good.

I was in the same boat and took the advice of some here. Bought the Jim Beam seats in section 317(?). I paid something like $95 a ticket wtih fees through TicketCity and had a deal on my Amex, used eBates and had an online code so paid significantly less, something like $75.

I figured they're a good angle behind home plate/first base, and if hot, you can at least duck into the A/C for a few minutes. Padded seats as well with free popcorn and peanuts... the little things count!

Just saw you mentioned below $50... i figure a section lower, the tickets are over 2x as much, and I wanted to be closer than upper deck. I'm going with some buddies from high school so hopefully it will be a good time.

So in the minors, all the major league retired numbers are also retired? Didn't know that...
We need to use a different stat for Judge's homers.

DC Orange has exactly two posts up on BBI: the same idiotic comment about Frazier on the 4/19 thread and the 4/20 thread.

This is world class stupidity.
