Here we go boys. Team looked like fire last game so let's keep the mojo going.
Haven't heard of any lineup changes yet. I'm just gonna go ahead and bitch about the refs preemptively to piss of our resident Habs fan.
Also, fuck Steve Ott in his fucking ear. Let's fucking go, boys
For the Habs, Emelin in for Davidson. Puck moving good skating and passing defensively responsible defenseman out for poor decision making, poor skating, defensively irresponsible gritty defenseman.
As Julien a decision as there could be.

and I don't want to overrate Brandon Davidson, he's not a top 6 defenseman. and I guess Alexei Emelin is, but in this series, Davidson is a better fit, especially with the speed and size of the Rangers forwards.

It's like Julien and AV consult with one another on personnel decisions.

Just as long as Stepan doesn't go near the boards and gets rung up with a game misconduct.....

practice for my youngest from 6:00 - 7:30, will miss the first period.
Lacrosse playoff games for both my kids, 2 hours from home. Thank god for Sirius for the ride home.
I'm sure we'll hear plenty of "awwwwws!" and "oooooohs!" and "Booooooos!" from the gaggle of jackasses in the crowd constantly playing the victim despite their team slashing, chopping, kicking skate blades towards faces and slew footing the opposition on a regular basis.
We'll see much of the same tonight from Clode and his fuck boys.
Whatever. He didn't do anything wrong.
- pj
I also said Ott didn't actually kick Zuccarello so I wouldn't dwell on "what could have happened".
but that's just me, feel free to not read anything and comment as you wish.

When Ott was leaving the ice and mule kicked Zuccs in the back couldn't he be fined or suspended for that? My God, if he caught him in the back of the neck with his skate blade he could have killed him!

And I still stand by my post the other night - Habs are a bunch of cheapshot cunts...#Gallagher #Rudalov #Ott - to name a few.

WTF are you babbling about jackass? I'm 1-1 and 17 seconds from being 2-0. So settle your tits.
I don't think Zucc does a bunch of dirty shit and then grins like a fucking idiot trying to provoke. Aside from the point that Scandavian's don't grin, about all they have in common is their size.

#Shaw
And I like Gallagher's game, I don't find him dirty, but he definitely plays with an edge. I'd hate him if my team had to play against him, but I'd recognize the value a player like him has regardless of the hate.
don't care who agrees.
But Steve Ott can go fuck himself

Would you qualify blatant slew footing as dirty?

Slew foot? Pffft. He's just playing with an edge. I don't care who agrees.

And pjcas had the nerve to use my post about Gallagher playing the Avery role as an insult before game 2

Would you qualify blatant slew footing as dirty?
Absolutely, and he has in the past slew footed a player on one occasion - though normally not intentional or blatant and it did not result in a suspension or a fine.
In fact as far as I know Gallagher has never been suspended by the league and not even fined by the league.
Kreider has been fined for his play, is he a dirty player?
The league reviews game film and suspends players for slew foots regularly. Andrew Shaw was suspended for a slew foot this season.
Slew foots are dangerous, so if it was both blatant and a slew foot as you say I would expect Gallagher to be suspended.
Was he?
Not that I have heard so my conclusion is
a) There was no blatant slew foot
b) you don't really know what a slew foot is
c) No suspension because...Montreal
I suspect probably both a and b to be true. but I suspect you will pick c.
Though the fact you're all still talking about how dirty Montreal is isn't a good look for hockey fans.
but don't let that stop you.
I'm pretty sure if a Ranger takes a skate out or intentionally trips a player behind the play that they wouldn't be looked at being a hard-nosed hustle monkey.
I'm pretty sure if a Ranger takes a skate out or intentionally trips a player behind the play that they wouldn't be looked at being a hard-nosed hustle monkey.
I don't think Gallagher does this:
When players hustle like Zuccarello or Gallagher they force the opponent to do things quicker than they want to do and actually draw penalties. But back to Gallagher....
Who is the most penalized player in the series?
I'll answer that for you Zuccarello.
How does Gallagher manage to escape the referees? Let me guess....because Montreal?
You guys are better fans than that.
He has 12 penalty minutes in 4 games, while he had 26 minutes all year! Something isn't adding up, especially with Gallagher pushing the boundaries more and only getting called for penalties in game 1.
Of course, when crosschecks and slashes are going un-whistled, but phantom stickwork on the boards is a penalty, I'm not really sure reason is going to play a decent part in discussing the ref performance.
The feisty forward has earned a place in the hearts of Montreal fans and the heads of players around the league as a force to be reckoned with, but does he deserve a spot on any list of the NHLs most notorious pests?
By nature of their role, pests are constantly pushing the boundaries when it comes to legal and not so legal actions.
Perry was suspended for four games in 2013 for interference. Antoine Roussel was suspended for two games in 2014 for cross checking and fined that same year for a sucker punch. Radko Gudas has been suspended for a combined nine games over two suspensions. Brad Marchand has had more hearings with the Department of Player Safety than some pests have career games played. Hes been suspended multiple times over his career.
Gallagher hasnt even had an on-ice incident worthy of serious closer inspection. The most popular example used to demonstrate Gallaghers pest-worthy actions is this trip on big Boston defenceman Zdeno Chara from the 2014 post season....
He was recently a topic of discussion after sliding into New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist, but he was sliding on his knees uncontrollably at the time and he didnt go looking for it.

What an ambassador of the game.
Keep up the good work though pj, they're the Canadians after all, a fine organEYEzation filled with a long legacy and championship banners. By the way, why would someone who lives in the northeast with plenty of other options choose them? Hell, there would have been more honor in jumping on the Whale wagon years ago. Or was it the Lafleur flow fluttering in the breeze as he danced down the wing that struck you in the sweet spot?
What an ambassador of the game.

Game On Ladies... LGR!!! On the Road again where we're most comfy & came 17 ticks of the clock from beating them BOTH TIMES there!!! 1 game at a time & on the road... Let's take this Guys!!
Your Calder Nominees: Laine (WIN), Matthews (TOR), Werenski (CLB).
no loser in that group.

Laine would win in almost any other year but Matthews was almost otherworldly.
Gametime...I actually like the Canadian Anthem better in French (I know, I know)
Shouldn't have even been a penalty.
- pj
Refs jumped in when Smith pulled the jersey over Shaw's head. It was going to get ugly for Shaw from there. Didn't know that Smith had fighting skills...
However losing one of our 4 best defensemen for 5 minutes as opposed to a low-skill player in Shaw is a good trade for Montreal
Who would of thunk it?
Fuck Staal - why turn around....?
And i never knew you could ram a goal after he has the puck covered, or is Ott the only one allowed to do that? BS officiating
Good to know a clown like Steve Ott can just jump onto Hank without any consequences though. But don't touch Price! Cause that's a penalty
You just sent out the alert for pjcas
WtF a clear slash by Gallagher in front of the ref and no call.
I'd rum that SOB through the boards...
How do you miss that?
Like I said at the start of the series, when you're playing in Montreal you have to beat the Canadiens and THEIR refs
Inexcusable to get a shortie and then just give it right back on the same PP
go ahead, pj. Copy and paste this one!
- Deluded, arrogant, entitled cocksucking Montreal fan
Not much he could have done about the second goal, it was a high deflection off a screen. He should have covered the post for the first one though
He can't be perfect every night, the people in front of him "need to be better"
F Gallagher
Need to catch up on the DVR now. I'm sure I'll see thugs in red and refs looking the other away, if not encouraging the thuggery.

Yep, you've got a lot of cheap shot artists there
Looked like that was McDonagh's own stick that caught him. If I cared as much as you guys do about this I'd watch it again, but I don't.
The period was decided by a waved off icing, and that would piss me off I was a Rangers fan more than any missed call and it infuriates me as a hockey fan.
I'm fine with the result in this case b/c my fury has boundaries, but I wish refs had to explain their decisions and the period was decided by shoddy defensive play (by the Rangers and the Canadiens).

Neither goal was something that could not have been reasonably expected to be stopped.
Staal made a minors mistake, no doubt - but no excuse for not stopping a sloppy wrap around..

Zucc was lucky not to get 4 minutes for that high stick. Those are always dangerous. It doesn't take much to seriously damage an eye
pj won't admit to anything. He accuses Rangers fans of lacking objectivity while he see's absolutely nothing wrong with the douche masters on his twat squad. I'm not sure there's a team in the league with 3 bigger cunts than Ott, Gallagher and Shaw but then again they're just gritty, hard nosed players on the edge who are above it all.

Playoff hockey in overtime is fucking draining
And I was thinking more often than not, Kreider, where in the hell art thou this series?
How many other Ranger forwards have the ability and smarts to just jab the stick out to deflect it, reflex and accuracy, cuz otherwise Price would have been there.
Just awesome period.

What a great game. Holden still sucks shit thru a tube. But say what you want about Girardi losing STEPS, he has been pretty great this series bringing the wood and putting his shots on net.
Great win.
Bring us home, fellas
ZIBANAJAD ZIBANAJAD ZIBANAJAD! AND THE RANGERS HAVE ONE MORE HILL TO CLIMB!
The OT defense by the Rangers was fantastic. Defense was pinching but took away any 2 on ones by drifting back whenever there was a chance the Habs could get the puck.
If you've got the time, I got the lines.
P.S. of course I got it.

Wait, how was his goal luck? He drove to the net after his teammate put the puck on net and then finished the rebound. That sounds more like fundamental hockey then luck to me.

Puck deflected off the defenseman into a perfect pass... I'm not diminishing what Zibby did.

I dont consider that luck. You go towards the net, good things happen. Yes, I get that Kreider was prob trying to shoot, all but whiffed to where it deflected to where Zibby got the chance to score. But that is what happens when you put the puck on net. Its not like he threw it on the boards, took a funny bounce and went in while the goalie was asleep.
Whatever. Different strokes i guess

In terms of Zib's gwg, I dunno how luck enters the conversation. I don't think Kreids was trying to shoot, he was trying to shovel across to Zib, and yes, there was a slight deflection. If anything, it slowed the cross ice down and I thought that might give Price the time to come across. Hell, if that is luck, then what was the OT game winner off Holden? And #22, jeez, coughs up another giveaway that for a moment looked like it might cost us; he corralled it back.
Thought the Captain was outstanding last night, and even his partner wasn't half bad. Skjei has stepped into the SCP like a five-year vet.
And if AV thought Buch couldn't handle the pace or the punishment, has he rethought that thought?
Duguay and Vali were echoing what smart posters like MAB have been saying for weeks last night after the game - that they cannot stop our 4-line attack, with wave after wave coming at them. Especially later in games, our better conditioning and speed is paying off.
Of course much will be made of swapping Glass for Buchnevich - the truth is we lost a tough game in OT in g2 and won two very close games in g4 and g5... and our top 6 forwards have finally pulled their heads from their asses -- which has a lot more to do with the improved results than putting #15 upstairs... but the playoffs are a game of inches and we're putting ourselves in better position to get game-breaking chances now than we were earlier in the series.
Close it out Saturday. I'm sick of the Bell Centre.
Huge win.
Nash has been outstanding as has McDonagh
Get an early goal on Saturday and the Habs might just melt down
Not only did your team lose, you were spotted looking so distraught in that silly jacket!
[img]http://s3.amazonaws.com/cms-media-library/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/20222832/Smith.jpg[/img
I thought besides Nash, Vesey was our best skater last night. He was poised, controlled the puck, and kept pushing play towards Price. Buchnevich has slid in to the lineup and has shown that the game isn't too fast for him (that dangle was pretty). Skeiji has been absolutely phenomenal with Smith. What a coming out year. Fast and Lindberg...what more can you say. Is there any other forward combo you want out there protecting the lead?
Let's take this series at the Garden boys.
Why you gotta bring me down, man?
Lot of talent on that Edmonton team. They are fun to watch. Connor McDavid is so good. He plays with an edge too. Very physical for a kid who just turned 20.
The West really has no one I am particularly afraid of, though. This would be a great year to get back to the Finals. But obviously we are a long, long ways away from there still.

Didn't see the game but San Jose got just one power play in 80 minutes of hockey. I find that hard to believe. Lots of complaining from NYR fans about the refs in our series (I know not you), but again another reminder that refereeing is simply lousy league wide.

I missed the 1st period and about half of the 2nd - so I'm not sure if they missed anything in that span. Nothing too egregious that went uncalled from what I saw, but I wasn't 100% focused on the game like I would be for one of ours.
Agree that the officiating is lousy in general. Consistency is always my biggest gripe. If they want to make calls, fine.. if they want to let the players play, fine.. but do it both ways. Don't let one team get away with assaulting the other and then call some BS hook where the stick barely even makes contact.
I'd prefer that they let the players play more often than not in the playoffs - not the place to be calling borderline penalties. I do think stuff that ventures into dirty territory should be called before it gets out of hand. Montreal has done a lot of it but we're not innocent, either. Zuccarello got away with a bad slash in the 1st period last night. Miller got called for his slash on Gallagher which was just a dumb penalty he took out of frustration. Stuff like that should be called. But otherwise, let them go.
Lindberg was on the ice for 14 corsi-for events and zero corsi-against. It's an extreme outlier/aberration, but it's consistent with his really solid play throughout the series.
I think we're finally going to come through in this spot and end the series, though. I try not to put too much stock in each individual game - but it feels like we're hitting our stride right now and I expect another really strong effort tomorrow.
#LFG
Agree - it's weird seeing teams like EDM/TOR in playoff games with these young superstars in the making but I am really enjoying it.
It's very strange to look at a Western Conference with CHI/LA both out of the mix before April has even ended. But it's about time. This is good for the league.
Anaheim is a little underrated - aren't they something like 14-0-3 over the last month+ now?
Anaheim is a little underrated - aren't they something like 14-0-3 over the last month+ now?
Anaheim is the team I think is going to get out of the West - but if they run into a hot Nashville team, they'll certainly have to earn it.
Those would certainly be the two "favorites" in my opinion as well.
@NYRangers

Of late, yeah.. but LA won two Cups in 5 years. Outside of CHI, they were pretty clearly the 2nd most successful WC team in that timespan.
It's really just semantics anyway. Just nice to see some new blood emerging.
My guess is because how offensively-minded the Russian system is and how supremely talented Russians forwards are that the Russian defensemen don't look nearly as good.
That's my guess anyway. Of course there are exceptions. That Zaitsev kid in Toronto looks pretty damn good.
Actually there have been a lot of GOOD Russian dmen. It just seems they dont get drafted high, and there arent a lot of so-so Russian dmen. I guess the so-so ones just stay in Russia mostly.
Frankly, Im surprised there are only 13 active Russian forwards with 162+ games.
Meh, this isn't about the Hawks.
Preds played really well.
It reminds me of the Ducks sweeping the Wings in 03.
True, though we're 2+ years into sanctions, and the ruble was already down before that due to low oil prices.
No one likes you, thus absolutely no one cares about your opinions.

Clean hip check? No way. Boarderline dirty play.

I'd actually pull for ovechkin to get one. He's so fuckin good.

4th ot game in 5 games between these two. Our series has been pretty good. Edmonton/sj except for game 4 has been good. This series has been the must watch show of the first round.
Go Leafs Go!!
As for Pierre -- the Jon gruden of the NHL - what I really want to know is where he went to high school what junior league he grew up in and what his parents names are. Give it all to me Pierre. What type of house did he grow up in?
Don't get me wrong, Ovi can eat a dick with his feet leaving headhunting hits, but that's still bullshit on Kadri...

Should NOT have been called.
Legal hip check? Probably.
Clean hip check? No way. Boarderline dirty play.
Brad Park made a living with those hits,
I want Boston to win because I want Ottawa to have to at least play another game but I also want this game to last as long as possible.

The fuck you know about Brad Park?
I don't know. Just beat each other up for 7 games and that's fine.
Boston isn't that scary but they'd have a lot of confidence if they made it through this series.
Pros and cons to both - no such thing as an "easy" draw at this point.
First thing we need to do is take care of business tomorrow and make this conversation relevant. I really do not want to see another game played @ Centre Bell.
