NFL.com: Mike Mayock connects 10 NFL clubs with draft prospects
"New York Giants
If the Giants want Alabama TE O.J. Howard, they'd better trade up. "I don't think he'll be there at No. 23," Mayock said of the former Crimson Tide star. "As a matter of fact, if I had to name my top 10, and when my top 100 list comes out next week before the draft, he'll be in the top 10 or 12. That's how good a football player I think he is." A more realistic TE option for the Giants: Miami's David Njoku."

Bucs are moving Ali Marpet to Center, news link above somewhere, their best OLer.

Arguably they needed a guard and a right tackle anyway, now more so, and they pick at 19.

I am all in with Daves (and mine prior) suggestion - Lamp / 23, however, don't be surprised if the player goes at 19.

Duggan NJ.com: Here's the perfect 7-round draft for the Giants

T
PFF: GIANTS HOPING FLOWERS CAN CONTINUE HIS YEAR-OVER-YEAR IMPROVEMENT
" • Flowers showed incremental improvement in 2016, raising his overall grade from 32.5 to 48.4.
* Could Flowers’ progress mirror that of fellow early pick, Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher? Fisher saw his biggest jump from years two to three.
* Both were thrust into starting roles from day one and struggled in the unforgiveable world of NFL pass protection.
* While hardly justifying the No. 1 overall pick, Fisher was PFF’s 34th-ranked OT in 2016 with a grade of 76.7 (considered average), highlighting his progress from bottom rung to league average.
* Considering the Giants’ quick strike offense and Eli Manning’s quick release (2.39 seconds), the value of an offensive tackle may be diminished in the Giants’ scheme."

then, from this pile

Steven White agrees with what I alluded to yesterday in the DT thread, that McDowell was miscast in college as a big 4/3 DT (not even 3 tech) and is really a DE with upside who can take reps at 3 tech but is mainly wasted at nose/hold up the pile duties.

White SB Nation: Malik McDowell is ready to wreck havoc in the NFL
Retired NFL defensive end Stephen White sees a pass rusher miscast in college who could end up being a force on the next level.

if Bucs take Lamp at 19 (above, between the piles, bucs best OL moving to center, and they lack a right guard as well), I don't mind McDowell at 23, (greater upside as a pass rusher DE /3 tech, both of which he had fewer reps than we may assume he had in college)

....But you will then still need a true big run stopping DT from this same draft draft, and not to mention the OL.

Focussing on interior though, makes both DT and G - C much more achievable.
Did you see this part? Emphasis is mine.

McDowell's best days are ahead of him and, barring injury, I see him being a Pro Bowl type player by his third year, if not sooner, and a double digit sack guy maybe in his second year if he goes somewhere with a good to great 3-4 defensive coordinator.

All the talk about McDowell reminds me of the talk about Muhammed Wilkerson, another guy who had a big pre-draft following on BBI, who was better off going to a team that played a base 3-4. Also, McDowell did not interview well at the Combine. In fact, his interviews were described as "awful" and "the worst" in multiple reports. As talented as he is, I wonder if he's even on the Giants' board?

It's certainly possible that Flowers will show significant improvement from years 2 to 3, it is not something the team can count on. And I don't think they give him a long leash this year. Patience is only a virtue up to a point. As for the quick strike offense that depends on Eli getting rid of the ball quickly, they are putting the cart before the horse. If the Giants had an OL that could better pass-protect, McAdoo could open up the playbook to include pass plays that take longer than 2.5 seconds to develop.

Yeah, I don't see Lamp making it past Miami. A lot of prognosticators are pointing to Tunsil moving to left tackle and Lamp coming in at left guard and that makes perfect sense. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Miami trade up in an effort to ensure they get Lamp. On the other hand, there are other good guards in the draft and Miami doesn't only have the one need at left guard.
For me Reese's comments are another

Potential indicator they will look to go OL at 23. The question will be who is there.
just for shits and kicks (was out for a while)
idiotsavant : 4/22/2017 3:41 pm : link
presume that Lamp is the only OL they really love in 1, goes off boards early, to Miami or Tampa.

And assume that Mcdowell has much greater upside as a 4/3 end + occasional 'passing down 3 tech or interior rush player' than we give him credit for as a rue DT.

(For example, I like Montravious Adams in 2, but McDowell seems to have, maybe, an even or much niftier pass rush upside, whereas Adams seems to have pretty good, better, leverage so far vs run blocks)

So maybe that leaves you: spitballing here:

1. McDowell - DE / occasional 3 rush tech
2. Dawkins - Guard (sy and dave?) (pugh/dawkins/asiata\fluker\flowers)
3. Asiata - convert to Center (or Shaheen TE here, also serves OL play really)
++++++then++++++++++
4,5,6 (Rounds to look for the big nose type DT assuming you see your first rounder as a DE really, runningback, fullback)

personally probably would take Lamp if he is there
