Ranaan on Dave Rothenberg

Samiam : 4/22/2017 10:50 am
Trying to listen while very busy. He thinks Davis LB will be the pick; he submitted the list of 10 possibilities the other day. What I did hear is that he doesn't think Ranzyk will be picked if available but he did think Robinson or Bolles are real possibilities if available. too many negatives on Ramzyk and age is not a factor on Bolles. Also, did not think they trade for Joe Thomas.

By the way, aside from the fact that he's a crazy Giants fan, he is a really good listen. I hope he gets the Francesa job but guessing it won't happen.
Would not surprise me and Davis is pretty highly thought of

universally. Wasn't Belicheck checking him out personally? His red flag is the injury bug.

But for a team close to contending, he's a nice plug and play at LB.
I sure hope Ranaan

Is right. I'd absolutely love Davis and Cunningham. I really like Bolles also. He reminds me of Lane Johnson.
Picking at #23, it's impossible to predict who'll be there...
Klaatu : 4/22/2017 11:23 am : link
When we're on the clock. I just hope that whomever the Giants draft makes a positive impact, regardless of position (and that goes for every other round, too). For a team that went 11-5 last year, they still have a lot of holes to fill. There's room for improvement on both sides of the ball.

Davis play the Mike position in spags defense and is he a 3 down player? If not then first round is too high.
Nobody
PaulN : 4/22/2017 11:27 am : link
Considers Cunningham good for the Giants that are knowledgeable, not Dave, or Sy. Davis is the guy, TJ Watt, Bowser, not Cunningham, Reddick is also mentioned, but riskier for us.
WILL
PaulN : 4/22/2017 11:28 am : link
Not Mike. He would be a 3 down backer at Will.
Cunningham would be one of the few remote throwers for me
PatersonPlank : 4/22/2017 11:35 am : link
I just don't like him early, and if we want a LB I'd much rather have 2 or 3 other guys.
With Goodson
mrvax : 4/22/2017 11:35 am : link
slated to play 2 down MLB, I'd think a drafted LB would have to be a WILL with pass rushing skills.
If Davis projects to WILL for us...
Klaatu : 4/22/2017 11:45 am : link
Then drafting him at #23 would represent a radical change in JR's draft philosophy. Some would say it's about time.
I'm thinking Davis would be a MLB
Jim in Forest Hills : 4/22/2017 11:49 am : link
not a WLB.

Keenan Robinson played pretty effectively at WIL last year.

But I think Davis is more than a 2 down thumper. With his atheticism, you keep him in on 3rd down and sub out Robinson in dime scenarios.

Im in agreement with you. Cunningham is fast but plays soft. He is easily blocked. But the good news is he doesnt seem like "our type" of LB. I am very okay with Davis. He is a baller. Cunningham is a string bean who cant shake anybody.

Id rather take Bowser and give Goodson a shot at Mike. Rotating Casillas and KR in on Nickel situations with Bowser pitting his hand in the dirt.

Man I really like Bowser. Von Miller lite
Think Davis is a solid player
ghost718 : 4/22/2017 12:05 pm : link
But I wouldn't take him over Cunningham, who can do things athletically others can't.

The Florida player I'd like to take is Marcus Maye, make a real nice tandem with Collins, but the Giants may be committed to this Darian Thompson.
Davis' closing speed is unreal.
robbieballs2003 : 4/22/2017 12:11 pm : link
Lets go back to our GB game in the playoffs. We planned to have our DL bullrush as to not give Rodgers any lanes to run through. Add Davis to this defense and Rodgers is no longer a threat as Davis can close him off. This alone would allow our DL to not be "disciplined" in their rush but just tee off on Rodgers forcing him to an area where Davis can clean him up. And, yes, Davis can cover too. This would be a home run pick.

I love this. He tackles his own teammate to secure the win. Get the fuck down!

Closing speed. He is on the opposite hash.

Cunningham in coverage

The only thing that troubles me with Davis is his injury history.
Klaatu : 4/22/2017 12:29 pm : link
We already have two LBs that are hardly models of durability - Kennard and Robinson - both of whom played in all 16 regular season games for the first time in their respective three and four year careers. Still, the talent with Davis is undeniable, and to me that outweighs the risk.
I hope Ranaan is right
Jay on the Island : 4/22/2017 12:30 pm : link
In the past I have been against taking a LB in round 1 unless they were special. Jarrad Davis is a special talent who will stay on the field all three downs. I have seen a few scouting reports comparing him to Ray Lewis which is very high praise. The injury concerns are real but if he didn't have those then he would likely go in the top 10. Davis would take this defense to a new level and would benefit greatly from playing behind Damon Harrison.
I would be
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 4/22/2017 12:34 pm : link
very happy with Jarrad Davis. And he can play any one of the three LB positions, but I would look at him at MLB first. That is our biggest need.
Davis

would be a great pick. But like others, I am concerned about his injury history. The talent is unreal.
Injury Situation

I don't follow college football enough to make an informed decision about the player. But, from what I've read, he's missed a ton of games in every year in college. If that's accurate, how does a team with the Giants history prior to last year draft a player with that many injuries? I almost would rather draft a QB and have him sit for a few years backing up Eli

I really disagree. He just sounds like a random sports fan with a microphone. And I've heard too many useless segments from him, like 10 minutes about how he got a pedicure and wanted his producers and listeners to tell him if that was ok or not. I hate that crap.
Davis

Is the only LB I'd take in the 1st. Guy can do it all. He could have a Sean Lee or Kuechly impact for the Giants in year 1.

I would consider Bowser also. His upside is very intriguing.

I agree I would start Davis in the middle and have him play between Robinson and Kennard. Having Davis in the middle would allow Kennard to rush the passer more.
I'm sure he is not really clued in
SethFromAstoria : 4/22/2017 11:48 pm : link
And I'd assume that the GM in particular would avoid giving stories to the guy trying hardest to get him canned from the job he loves. Plus when he is wrong who will care?
