More fun times for all of the frequent flyers out there.

How do you guys think this compares to the United incident?

yatqb : 4/23/2017 4:51 pm : link
absolutely have to? No one looks forward to that with glee. If someone ventures to the front of a plane to go to the bathroom I'm guessing that they really have to go. Taking offense at that seems shallow.

That said, sorry to get into a pissing contest with you.
I actually had a positive experience with AA
Dunedin81 : 4/23/2017 4:52 pm : link
My connecting flight was pushed back such that I was almost certainly going to miss my connection. They got me on a direct flight instead, without penalty, and then bumped me up to an earlier one when that earlier one ended up delayed long enough for me to get there. The first positive flight experience I've had in years.
Yat i didn't take offense i was giving commentary
gtt350 : 4/23/2017 4:56 pm : link
on what i witnessed over the years that has caused arguments. I believe it would just be polite to ask 1st before entering a curtained off area. I fly coach mostly now but when i was fortunate enough to be up front i certainly wasn't pompous about it. If everyone just came up and started a clue it wouldn't be allowed, their rules not mine

Where did she think she was going with the stroller?
Matt M. : 4/23/2017 6:34 pm : link
They aren't allowed in the cabin. If brought to the gate, they are supposed to be checked. Where was the gate attendant when she walked on with the stroller?

The flight attendant was a little aggressive, but the mom was 100% wrong and the guy should have minded his business.

the mother and her tears don't get a pass. Shes a scammer hiding behind tears while inconveniencing everyone including her child . Flight attendant didn't act professionally . He's got to hold it together. Then we have the macho passenger who has to throw his two senses into the fray. He fits the definition off dickhead. I wished they had thrown him off the flight

I have a hard time believing the flight attendent just flipped the fuck out and starting grabbing the stroller.

A functioning society can't have it both ways; incessant bitching planes are never on time, it's impossible to find a place for a carry-on, people are banging into me or you follow the rules, stop when asked, and move when asked.

Crying? Give me a break. This is (in part) why planes take so long to take off and why flying can be so painful at times. People not following the rules or just being plain inconsiderate.

If your shit doesn't fit, check it. Stop delaying everyone else's flight because you think the rules don't apply to you. Jesus..

And yes, sick passengers are the worst. Nothing worse than being locked in a cabin for several hours with a person hacking their infected lungs out at you. Fuck them.

googs i didn't restrict anyone that's the point that's the airlines rules . they even make a public announcement about the lavatories before takeoff. I just reported what i saw. my impressions of some people were that they were arroganr=t by ignoring the flight attendant, i don't give a rats ass id someone has to piss, be my guest

possibly determine right or wrong based on such little evidence?

A baby "almost" got hurt?
I "almost" got hit by a car the other day, guess I should have gotten the driver's insurance information.

And why is a mother crying over a stroller? Where is she possibly going to prop it up during the flight?
Follow the rules and stop ruining it for the rest of us.

In all my years, I must have missed where the flight attendants tell the passengers in coach to only use the bathrooms in the back.

Sitting in First Class as I type this and I didn't hear any similar-type announcement today either...
This is just ridiculous...
EricJ : 4/24/2017 8:44 am : link
so this woman is an emotional wreck and American Airlines is accused of doing something wrong? What did they do wrong? Was it that they did not cave to a crying woman and try to squeeze a stroller onto the plane when it is supposed to go underneath?

I will bet anything that this video gets no airtime is the lady is not crying.

This is a non story. Sounds like in addition to air marshals we will need therapists to deal with some of the emotionally disturbed passengers now.
since we don't have all the evidence
UConn4523 : 4/24/2017 8:55 am : link
I can't really make a determination. That said if some flight attendant grabbed my stroller and shook the shit out of my baby, there would be a big problem. However, if he grabbed it and she's embellishing what happened after not obeying the stroller policy, than that's on her.

A double stroller on a plane is preposterous though, jaw dropping really. I can't believe how stupid/entitled some parents can be. "Fuck everyone else, I have kids" is essentially what that decision tells me.

Googs google can coach airline passengers use first class lavatories. many interesting comments and statements. the only airline that recently now allows it is American but other than that customers are to stay in their assigned cabins. the reason is business and first class pay a premium for comfort which means a smaller ratio of people to lavatories. I'm not preaching, this is what i'm reading

like assholes and the very people I wouldn't want to fly with. Arrogant, entitled, and bratty business people who are quick to judge other travelers. I'm on the road 30+ weeks of the year all over the place and it's actually really simple to sit back, relax and enjoy the amazing event that is air travel. Maybe have some compassion for those who don't travel often and might be a bit overwhelmed, nervous and outside their element.

Complaining about using the lav up front? Gimme a f'ing break. Get off your high horse.

I have no idea. I don't fly much but have had kids on atleast half the flights I've ever been on and every single time the parent checks their stroller at the gate.

I was on this flight directly across the isle from the woman filming the video. This is what I observed:
woman gets on the plane pushing a car seat type stroller with one child in it, carrying a second child on her hip and dragging behind a very large folded stroller that was too big for the overhead bin or to go under a seat.
the flight attendant shown in the video approached from the back of the plane and informed her in a calm manner that there was nowhere to store the stroller. The woman immediately escalated the situation and within about 30 seconds was screaming at him at the top of her lungs.
the flight attendant evidently decided she was not fit to be on the flight (in my opinion the correct decision) and started to move her and her children towards the front of the plane.
when they got to the from of the plane the woman decided she was not going any further. The flight attendant picked up the stroller and lifted it over his head to try and move past the woman. As he was doing this she pushed him and the stroller fell a bit and struck her in the face. She began crying loudly and dramatically. Shortly after this is where the video begins.
The first class passenger then inserts himself into the drama with his faux chivalry but clearly has no idea what has transpired in the back of the plane since he was in a window seat in the first class section of the plane and could not have viewed the incident from his seat.
after another 10 minutes or so the woman exits the plane only to be returned about 5 minutes later and taken to her seat. We wait another 30-40 minutes while various flight and ground crew come and go speaking to the woman. After about 40 minutes she deplanes again this time telling all of the passengers, who are now becoming vocal in support of the flight crew, that all she wanted was an apology from the flight attendant. Evidently that's what the 40 minute delay was all about. Then we waited another 10 minutes for the ground crew to find and remove her luggage from the belly of the plane.
the flight finally leaves and arrives in Dallas an hour or so late. American representatives are waiting at the gate to speak with the first class passenger who made the threats. What I heard was a very apologetic tone coming from two American employees, as if the airline had done something to upset the first class passenger.
when I entered the bag claim area the first class passenger was right in front of me and as soon as he made it through the revolving door there was a camera crew waiting for him on the other side to interview him.
That's about as factual of an account as I can provide and I realize there may be other parts of this story that I do not know about or did not witness. From what I saw:
if anyone from American should have been punished it should be the ground crew who somehow letting this woman on board with a full size stroller. The flight attendant was put in a horrible situation by a passenger that most passengers in my immediate area thought seemed unstable. She escalated the situation, not him.
in my opinion, the first class passenger should have been removed. Had the flight been in progress he might very well have been arrested upon landing for threatening a crew member. Additionally, he could not have seen any of the back of the plane antics of the woman based on where he was seated.
I agree the flight attendant may have reacted too harshly in responding to the threatening customer in first class, but his actions with the woman in question were professional throughout the ordeal. I am disappointed American has chosen to punish him.

Of couse we don't know ow the validity of this account, but I would not be at all surprised if this is a fairly accurate accoun. The first lass passenger being treated like a hero is ridiculous.

There really is no excuse for the woman to think she could board with even one stroller, let alone two. That is just sheer stupidity. If she didn't know beforehand and never travelled before, how did she never inquire about the rules? Hell, strollers are even checked for free if you are travelling with a baby/toddler.

Then, if this account is true she was even more unreasonable once approached about it.

Actually that is not entirely correct. I don't know why everyone claims strollers are not allowed on planes, I see them all the time being brought on. This is AA policy regarding strollers:
Quote:
American policy states that fully collapsible strollers weighing less than 20 pounds may be carried on board if there's space in the overhead bins.

fabricated a situation and then informed the flight attendant as to how he would handle that fabricated situation.

How does that help diffuse the CURRENT situation?

Not buying it's the gate attendants fault for letting her pass by with 2 strollers.

If she somehow sneaked a walrus passed the gate, should the flight attendant just say fuck it, come on board walrus?

it doesn't... if I remember correctly, the woman had calmed down by the time he interjected, then got worked up again after their confrontation

well considering that is a major part of their job that they are paid for I don't know what to tell you!
A stroller that can't fit in between the isle
UConn4523 : 4/24/2017 10:59 pm : link
cannot go on the plane. I have a single stroller, a pretty small one and it barely fit in the metro north aisle. No way a double can do that on a plane with narrower aisles.

I still don't get how a potential mistake of letting the stroller on automatically allows the woman to act anyway she wants without reprocussion.

I don't think anyone is saying that, but it definitely does not warrant someone physically yanking it out of her hand while holding a baby.

Exactly, This starts and ends with the Gate agents and the American people on the plane not catching the stroller needing to be checked.

And sounds like it's a national story only because the mother became belligerent.

She played it up for sure, don't know why the stroller was that important to have nearby.

Not at all, but if that account above is accurate, it seems she embellished it greatly. If he did endanger the kid, fire him, won't argue that.

But none of that has even been proven.
We have a mother who appears to be embellishing (and has already "lawyered-up") and a hot-headed bystander who threatens a flight attendant based on a hypothetical scenario.
Objectively, I don't believe a thing either one of them says. None of their actions appear to be reasonable.

Then again, everything is filtered through the media; so who knows what really happened.

There are a few eyewitnesses who have said he yanked it out her hand
