What's really interesting is before he went to prison, he dumped money in accounts for baby mama, child, and long time boyfriend (who received the most Money). He dies and leaves three notes to baby mama, child, and new prison boyfriend.
I'm totally against outting folks, especially the dead, but if his sexuality played into the murders, and into the suicide, particularly as prime motivation, then it is newsworthy and not a smear.
I'm sure being in a gang and the NFL with millions on the line also levered the pressure on his "secret."

If the sources are right, the facts are particularly germane to the case and suicide, which is completely newsworthy. If the family is insulted or disturbed, that is their right.
When it comes to unamed sources, as someone who is trained as a journalist I find it murky, but Florio of all people shouldn't fight that fight. He basically runs a rumor blog.

Uncovering facts isn't a salacious exercise. His sexual orientation is, like it or not very much a part of the investigation and isn't part of a value judgement.
Should law enforcement be leaking evidence? Of course not. But it's zero percent surprising.
This is getting attention because there's actually more to the story. If the revelation was another woman, a gangland debt, a cult voodoo spell, it would be leaked and written about.
