Should the G-Men consider Jabrill Peppers at No. 23?

Chris L. : 4/23/2017 11:04 am
If Peppers is there at number 23 and it sounds like he very well may be I would love to see the Giants give strong consideration to this guy. Spags LOVES the 3 safety look and the thought of this guy running around hunting heads with Landon Collins is enough to give any NFL wide receive pause to go across the middle. Remember, this guy ran a 4.46 at Indy which is a full half of a tenth of a second faster than Landon Collins ran. Also, he is a flat out baller. This guy finds the ball and makes an impact when he arrives. In today's specialized world of defensive football Spags could come up with many interesting and creative ways to use this guy. Finally, if you pick him you have the best return man we have had in decades.
A lot of people are down on Jabrill

but I would definitely consider him at #23. There is a role for players like him in the NFL with Deone Bucannon's recent success

They use guys like Keenan Robinson, Jonathan Casillas and Landon Collins in his role.
I think he is the type of player who will really thrive

in the right scheme and I think we are a very good fit. We love the three safety look and he could also play a hybrid SS/WSLB against certain teams. He would help us in coverage matchups against teams which have big TE's and receivers. Also, I think he would be particularly effective against a team like the Cowboys because you'd have a heat seeking missile on each side of the field (he and Collins)for run support against Zeke. Those outside runs become a lot tougher.
Character issues make him a no for me.
Crispino : 4/23/2017 11:42 am : link
Heard a disturbing rumor about him at Michigan, which I won't repeat, since it's unsubstantiated, but it wouldn't surprise me if true. Followed him and saw him play in high school and he was an attitude issue, with a huge ego to the point where he was running the team while coach had to take a back seat. Pass.
Giants like him

Fwiw
convert him back to RB and you have Ezekel Elliot

Rumor aside, wouldn't playing for Harbough dispel attitude rumors of him trying to run the show? Just playing devils advocate, especially since I can't see that flying on Harboughs watch.
My favorite player in this draft
Matt G : 4/23/2017 11:50 am : link
Not exactly a huge need for the Giants with Collins, but I wouldn't be surprised if Reese pulled the trigger on him at #23...
Trying to run the show is simply an example of.....
Crispino : 4/23/2017 12:04 pm : link
and a symptom of an out of control ego.
Too many question marks
GiantJake : 4/23/2017 12:04 pm : link
I would not want the Giants to spend their top pick on a guy with no true position. Maybe he becomes a Pro Bowl safety, but there is no guarantee. There are more experienced safeties in this draft that the Giants can target after round 1. Why risk your top pick?
He's talented enough to be a strong consideration,
yatqb : 4/23/2017 12:05 pm : link
and Spags would have a great time scheming for him and Collins. So it would be fine with me.

He's not the immediate need pick I'd hope for (a great offensive player, for example) but he's a difference maker.
I've just seen him play safety
Ira : 4/23/2017 12:14 pm : link
and I don't think he's good enough at safety for our first round pick. He's a very good athlete but doesn't have the instincts you want at safety.
He is really a guy without a position
Vanzetti : 4/23/2017 1:34 pm : link
I would not throw the remote if Giants take him at 23 but I think his future is as a jack of all trades. Can he contribute enough Specials and in nickel/dime packages to make him worth the 23rd pick?

Hard to say. But I don't see him as a three-down player.

Why do people say that Spags loves the 3 safety look
SLIM_ : 4/23/2017 1:36 pm : link
I've always been confused with that because I don't really see it. I know that Fewell loved it but people can't stand Fewell around here including me.

2007 - Spags 1st year here. I don't remember much 3 safety looks. We had McQuarters spending some time in the nickel and we had another smaller/quicker nickel corner type.

2008 - We did play a lot more 3 safety looks. Big reason was that we had Kenny Phillips who was a rookie and they wanted to get him on the field.

2015 - I'm not that Spags wanted two safeties on the field as our starters for most of the year were Craig Dahl and Brandon Merriweather. I believe Trevin Wade was our nickel corner. Trying to forget that year completetly on defense.

2016 - Wade and Hall were our extra backs mostly. What do you want to call Hall? I call him an aging corner who was too slow for that position but filled in at safety occasionally due to an inexperienced UFA at safety.

There are a bunch of players that I would rather see than Peppers but I'm very confident that Spags could use Peppers and Collins in very exciting ways. That doesn't mean Spags loves the 3 safety look - it means that he is a smart enough coach to employ his talent effectively.

He's probably a better RB than S, and he's got better moves than any of the current Giant RBs. And he's a tremendous return player.

I think the Michigan player the Giants want in the first is Taco. They really want to keep their Dline fresh this year.

I'll take Wormley instead
Yea,

I think D. Thomas is going to be very good along with Collins. Peppers would add a lot as a 3rd safety, it makes a lot of sense if they weren't so weak on the O line. I wouldnt be mad if the Giants drafted him, but I support the need pick approach this year. If the Giants believe the best O linemen in this draft are just not worth the 23rd pick, they will go elsewhere, but I'm hoping they do.
He's not a great S. if he was he'd
LauderdaleMatty : 4/23/2017 4:47 pm : link
never taken a snap at LB last year. Yeah Hes a stud NFL CB S. lets move him to LB. Seriously? Also If he wasn't from NJ and being pumped by the UMich homers here this wouldn't be posted every few days.

He's not as good a SS as Collins. That's his position on Sundays if he's not moved to RB. We don't need a big nickel S. There will be about 10 other players that should project as good as he at 23. Most if not all of them at positions of greater need. No thanks.

And none of that means hes not going to succeed
LauderdaleMatty : 4/23/2017 4:48 pm : link
or isn't a 1st rounder Just that the Giants have many bigger needs
4 days from the draft and I ve read a million

Opinions/hopes and prognostications as to whom will be the Giants pick, right here on BBI.

Conclusion this year more than most, we really have little idea who that first pick will be.

Problem with me, they all sound like good ideas.
Jamal Adams will never make it to us

too bad
Taco
TommyWiseau : 4/23/2017 5:18 pm : link
Does not impress me at all. His motor is questionable and he is not consistant at all. Will blow up an OT one play then get pushed around the next 2 plays. His run defense is also below average. He does have athletic ability but I just don't see that "It" factor when it comes to him.
i have been hootin and hollerin about gettin an OL in RD 1
BlackburnBalledOut : 4/23/2017 7:04 pm : link
but i would love to get Peppers. Safety. LB. KR. PR. WR. RB.........why not.

Idk if he will be available at 23 and i think we have much bigger priorites then utililty man but i would not be upset if peppers was a Giant

IMO he's too 5-6 at worst. Gone so early it won't matter. Giants have as much chance at Garret as they do w Adams. None

Not for long.
We have a need for a more skill-specific player at a higher level than a versatile player at his level.

He's almost a luxury pick, or one for a team that has a tight cap now and forward, has many needs so it needs better bang for the buck.

ryanmkeane : 4/23/2017 10:58 pm : link
Peppers doesn't have the instincts...he's around the ball nearly every play. This was the same stuff they said about Collins coming out and all you see is when there's a play on the ball, he's there.
This discussion is moot...
EricJ : 4/23/2017 11:00 pm : link
because he won't be there when we pick
