FROM DAVE TE-LINEBACKER BOARD SHIFTING IN ROUND ONE

nflscouting : 4/23/2017 12:05 pm
Just something going on this AM, but the Foster situation & injury concerns about Jarrad Davis could see a reshuffling of the LB picture. Foster could still be the prime target of Cincy, but they are also doing due dilligence on Davis. Davis seems to have convinced most teams that he is better off as an ILB in a 3-4 scheme rather than play at WOLB. That seems to be taking him out of the equation for the Giants, but placing more emphasis on their recent attention to Watt & Bowser. Reddick seems destined to be a Colt, but if Foster slides, Indy has more pressing needs inside. That could push Reddick to the Redskins (17) or if he slides further, to the team that covets the Temple star - Detroit (21). The Resdskins also like Bowser, but Foster & Reddick are higher on the draft pecking order. Dallas is desperately trying to move up from #28 with Bowser the intended target. Some had them in on Davis, but the Pokes think Jaylon Smith is going to make it back to the field this year, filling the MLB spot. Oakland and KC seem to be ready to pop on Davis if he slides to the end of round one. So where does this leave Watt? Some say he could slide out of the first round, but there's a lot of midnight oil burning in Rutherford on this guy and if the Giants pass, Green Bay is ready to get a compliment for Clay Matthews. If GB happens to pass, Atlanta has three targets and one desire - improve the pass rush, with Watt, Bowser and Jordan Willis all strong considerations, depending hiow the tree shakes in front of them.
Where do you see Cunningham going?

Is he out of round 1?
I just don't feel the love with Cunningham. Watched him play
Jimmy Googs : 4/23/2017 12:19 pm : link
plenty of times here in SEC country too.

Give me Davis or Bowser instead...
Thanks for the

"insider" insight Dave. This is really cool info.
Jaylon Smith replacing Sean Lee at MLB???
Rick in Dallas : 4/23/2017 12:21 pm : link
Sean Lee is an All Pro. I do know that Smith is participating in OTA's.
Crazy how Bowser is jumping up the boards
Rjanyg : 4/23/2017 12:28 pm : link
He has been considered a mid late 2nd round pick by most.

I guess Edge Rusher / OLB is the target in round 1 and I am ok with that.

A draft of OLB, DT, TE, RB and OL would be ideal. I will try to do a mock with these 5 positions later today through fanspeak and see what come up.

As for Smith- to eleviate any issues with his range, the Pokes are looking into him competing with Hitchens at MLB, but Lee is their starting WOLB-check the depth chart
SLB 57 Wilson, Damien 15/4 51 Wilber, Kyle 12/4
MLB 59 Hitchens, Anthony 14/4 54 Smith, Jaylon 16/2 53 Nzeocha, Mark 15/7 40 Morris, James SF16 48 George, Jeremiah SF16
WLB 50 LEE, SEAN 10/2 00 Lotulelei, John SF17
My bad Dave
Rick in Dallas : 4/23/2017 12:30 pm : link
Lee is the WLB but on a lot of plays it looks like he is at MLB.

The call-in this AM on the linebackers
Yeah, I thought it was strange that three teams I talked to on the Foster situation that led to a LB confab did not have Cunningham in the equation. I think coaches that "loved" his athleticism saw on film it does not always translate to the field. I've never been a Boley fan, but the kid strikes me as a bigger version of him
Could

See the Giants looking at LB in Rounds 3 or later. Robinson being on a 1-year deal again, so on so on.
Cunningham probably will be a decent LB in the NFL but
Jimmy Googs : 4/23/2017 12:37 pm : link
he is not really a special talent.

Its almost exciting to even think the Giants will draft a LB early in this draft. They have been short-sighted in the past on that value, as well as the ability to develop at the position.

Hope things change...

I wonder if the Giants are being tight-lipped knowing the Dave is posting here.
Thank you Dave!

With you and Sy posting on BBI what Giant fan needs ESPN insider. We probably should make a trophy for best BBI contributer.

Reading your posts, and taking what we know of Reese, I think this is the year they grab that 3 down lb that puts his hand in the dirt on 3rd down. Bowser or Watt would do nicely, but I think Bowser is gone by 23, and Watt is the pick.
I like that Sy said he thinks teams may view Watt as a DE.
robbieballs2003 : 4/23/2017 1:04 pm : link
That alone adds a ton of value especially on a team that could use more of a pass rush. I think we need more of a push up the middle but if a guy like Watt could rush as a DE on obvious passing situations then either JPP or Vernon can slide inside to push the pocket.
Man if I am IND

How do you pass on the the best OL in the draft? Whether it's Robinson or Lamp..both should be there at 15. How many times does Luck run for his life before he says, see ya Colts.

and I think Reddick
Sy'56 : 4/23/2017 1:25 pm : link
is destined for BAL
Don't want Cunningham, and I'm not sure how I feel about Watt
PatersonPlank : 4/23/2017 1:27 pm : link
What is his position? Can he play MLB, or is he a WLB, or is he a DE?
And consider this about Watt
Sy'56 : 4/23/2017 1:28 pm : link
His frame is FAR from finished. He still has some lanky high schooler in him. Fully healthy now, he can really focus on bulking rather than rehabbing...and he currently weighs 252. I think he is 265+ this time next year.
Regarding the Saints
Sy'56 : 4/23/2017 1:30 pm : link
I tink Conley and McCaffrey are both got before #11. I can't see them going Humphrey that early, especially knowing they can go CB at #32 OR they are getting Butler.

What about Foster to the Saints? They need a MLB as much as anyone. What a bust Anthony has been.

Who cares about labels? Can he help your team win? If so, then it doesn't matter what position he is labeled as.
Didn't you have a really high grade on
beatrixkiddo : 4/23/2017 2:52 pm : link
Anthony in '15 Sy? I'm surprised he has been a bust so far. The Saints have had a terrible defense for way too long.

Yes I did. He's been awful, I missed on that one. His main issues have been mental...has had a hard time picking up the scheme and for a guy in the middle, thats a major deal.

I agree with this SY. Feeling for a while our losing Lamp starts here, and then quite a few other teams that will be considering him before 23.

When the Colts drafted Philip Dorsett in 2015, 1st, instead of an OL, I was shocked. The pounding Luck takes is unsustainable.

Either of you guys have a take on who else could grab Lamp?
Teams I think are looking hard at Lamp in round 1:
Sy'56 : 4/23/2017 4:32 pm : link
IND
TB
DEN
NYG
SEA
Lamp
chopperhatch : 4/23/2017 5:28 pm : link
Is a guy Id be willing to trade up for. Bowser will apparently take too much to go get. Same with Reddick. Lamp instantaneously fills a need.
