About the what's going on in the NBA? What kind of people are watching this folly? Sick of this Lebron reality show.
I have no idea

what you're talking about. I'll assume you're saying that you're sick of seeing Lebron win but you should be used to it by now. It doesn't matter anyway because they aren't beating the Warriors. And Lebron is only getting older and Love is always a step away from having yet another injury. His reign on top won't last too much longer.

Game on Saturday night was one of the better sporting events I have seen in a long time.

And I'm not sure how someone can complain watching Lebron James play basketball. Must not be a fan of hoops then.

I find
pjcas18 : 4/24/2017 8:17 am : link
Isaiah Thomas inspirational. Maybe the most underrated (and I know that word is thrown around A LOT) player in the league.

You watch the Celtics and without Thomas they really have no one who creates. And Thomas can drain the 3 and drive to the hoop all at 5' 9". He reminds me of a lesser Iverson.

Yeah it was great. The NBA really lacks character, IMO. With so many of the games just looking like the players are going through the motions, its nice to see Westbrook do and say what he does.

Thunder center Steven Adams was asked about the issue, and Westbrook interrupted.

"Hold on Steven," Westbrook said. "I don't want nobody to try and split us up. We're all one team. If I go to the bench and Steven's on the floor and I'm off the floor, we're in this together. Don't split us up. Don't try and split us up. Don't try to make us go against each other or make it Russell and the rest of the guys. Russell against Houston. I don't want to hear that. We're in this together. We play as a team. That's all that matters."

When pressed on the matter, Westbrook became more agitated, repeatedly saying "Next question."

"Say 'Russell, the team hasn't played well,'" he said. "Don't say, 'when Russell goes out the team doesn't play well.' That doesn't matter. We're in this together."

I have been turned off by the NBA For a while...
EricJ : 4/24/2017 9:47 am : link
really for two reasons...

1. the officiating and how it is widely accepted that the rules are applied differently to the star players vs the guy coming off of the bench. I am really not impressed when a star player scores 40 and 12 of those points came from free throws stemming from bullshit foul calls.

2. the ability to put dream teams together in the NBA vs other sports. In general, you can have 3 top players who can carry a team. It becomes less of a team game too vs the other top sports.

3. (personal) I hate ESPN and their love affair with the NBA just sickens me. A few weeks ago while on the treadmill at the gym I can see all of the TVs and one of them was ESPN. They put their top 10 plays up. Some PGA Player gets a hole in one and yet they rank two NBA dunks ahead of that as a top play. These fucking guys can dunk without jumping.

seems every time I see that the person qualifies it by "I never watch it anymore".

this is a golden era in the NBA. the talent level right now is incredible, and that Spurs/Grizzlies game was some of the best basketball you'll see. great players making great plays over and over.

and spare me the "they don't play defense" crap. the defense is very tough and would shut down mere mortals. but these offensive players are unstoppable.

There's a ton of talent in the NBA, no denying that. However the rules are an absolute joke and the player GM's have turned the competition into almost nothing.
Parity
Csonka : 4/24/2017 10:31 am : link
I get that you want more parity, but there have always been dominant NBA teams. There have been in every sport. It doesn't last forever, and there's still enough drama to make it interesting to me.

the only issues I have with the NBA are
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/24/2017 11:02 am : link
1. Offense is too easy. These guys are freak athletes, and with no hand-checking, the ability for players to take their hand under the basketball when they dribble allowing them to change directions that shouldn't be possible, and the interpretation of the "gather step," offense is just too easy.

2. The "hack-a-___" philosophy: I understand that players need to be able to make their free throws. This isn't about changing a rule to accommodate those players. In fact, these awful free throw shooters should be criticized and perhaps fined by their teams for not working on underhand free throws. They are costing their team and seemingly would rather look good and lose than look ugly and win.

However, these off-ball fouls are intentional fouls. Everyone knows that teams are trying to foul in these circumstances and the announcers even talk about "they should foul here." When a team's strategy is to foul, they are intentional fouls. These dead ball, off ball fouls where players just wrap up other players should be flagrant fouls.

3. The playoffs are too long. The playoffs are great, but two months of playoffs after a 81-game regular season is ridiculous.

That the NBA finals could span from June 1 - June 18 is preposterous to me.
But to the OP
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/24/2017 11:05 am : link
I don't understand how anyone could get sick of watching LeBron. We are watching the longest continued streak of dominant/peak play in NBA history. There has never, ever, been a player like LeBron. Whether you rank him the best player ever or not, he is certainly on the short list and will eventually end his career among the smallest most inner circle of greatness.

Put me in the camp that's starting..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/24/2017 11:13 am : link
to think the rules and overofficiating of most sports is ruining them:

- The NFL and their inconsistency regarding a catch, pass interference and defensive holding/illegal contact impacts the outcomes of many games, not just in a year, but in a week.

- MLB's use of replay glacially slows down an already slow game and seemingly doesn't get the call right all that often upon review

- Basketball, both the NBA and NCAA have issues. Just look at the whistle-fest that was UNC and Gonzaga, and the continual favorable treatment of NBA "stars" has made the sports unwatchable at times. I know people who actually shut the NCAA championship game off because of the whistles! That's unprecedented

The NHL officiating has been poor league wide for a few years now.

Refs get entirely too much screen time and until accountability for shitty calls happens - we'll probably continue to get hosed as fans.

agree but at some point you just cannot turn on the TV and see everything about him all day. Does not lessen what he has done. Just that you want a little variety in your sports entertainment.

athletes that people don't tire of with an sustained level of media exposure. About the only ones I can think of are:

Jeter
Ripken
Duncan
Brady
Rodgers

Basically, being in the public eye just ensures that over time, annoying facets will come out and tick people off. Big Papi's continual "Gee shucks" persona while cursing and beating the shit out of dugouts. Coach K's "Gee shucks" attitude while he calls the refs motherfuckers and resembles shanahan's rat-like twin. LeBron continually claiming to be a victim. Favre showing his junk and getting covered on ESPN daily for the last two years in the league. Bonds and Clemens being surly jackasses. Lance Armstrong continually denying steroid use. Tebow hyped as a ProBowler as he chucks wounded ducks and kneels in prayer.

The Media tries to drive certain narratives that don't always match the public's perception. That's when the complaints seem to start.

and I love watching LeBron play at such a historic level. He's one of the greatest athletes ever and he's on a mission to try and become the greatest ever. Legendary athlete.

I wish the NBA allowed hand-checking though, just like I wish the NFL allowed "illegal contact" beyond 5 yards. NFL WRs and NBA Guards just have it too easy these days, and these rules wouldn't have an effect on player safety either.
The playoffs gave been very entertaining
HomerJones45 : 4/24/2017 12:08 pm : link
I don't watch Cavs games and won't until they make the finals because if I want to watch a 250 lbs guy tuck the ball under his arm and go barreling into the other team's players, I'll watch the NFL.

Complaining about officiating has gone past the point of no return. The games are officiated by human beings, each league plops more and more rules on and there are going to be mistakes. Unless you are betting big money on sports, in which case you already need to have your head examined, it is what it is, and it's just part of the game.

First off, the Warriors were the better team before adding Durant. Then Curry realized he was a b*tch and couldn't do it on his own and talked Durant into joining their all-star team. They aren't losing, IMO. It would take a minor miracle and the HC not being there isn't it.

Kyle in NY : 4/24/2017 10:39 pm : link
really ruined what could have been a great season. Last season's playoffs were fantastic. OKC/SA, OKC/GS, GS/CLE were three genuinely great series, and I'll admit my interest in the league has waned in recent years (though I do appreciate the talent level in the league now). And if Durant goes back to OKC this would have been a fascinating season with maybe 6-7 teams with a decent shot to win it all, a pretty good amount for the NBA. But as it is, this all just feels mostly pointless,. There's like an 80% chance we already know the finals. Just tough to get too excited for that.

Yeah and one game was great? Good for you. There is a very rare case when there isn't at least one thriller game on every night during the NHL Playoffs. I'd much rather watch that. I think basketball is ok, I don't hate it. I was guilty in the beginning when Lebron went to the Heat, I was in the "I want him to lose" group and that narrative made me care about basketball again, but Im not going out of my way to watch Lebon play or any of the other games.

Any chance it won't be Cleveland vs Golden State in the finals again?
