after a good start.

Best thing about Tebow rolling is hopefully Keith Law gets trolled by Tebow fans (the ones he hasn't blocked). No idea why, but I find it hilarious how many Tebow questions he gets and how mad it makes him.
Montero
Shecky : 4/24/2017 8:03 am : link
Still nibling. Velocity was 94 most of the night, which for him is great. But felt like he was 1-2 on every batter, then go 3-2. Slider was sharp, but fooling no one.

isn't regarding as highly as Rosario but he's roughly a top 50 prospect in the game coming into the year and about the same age... look at the start to his season in AAA for the Giants.. unreal.

says Rosario and Smith are off to good starts but are not in consideration for call up.

“We’re very happy with the way they’ve started. I don’t think it accelerates any timetable but I think it’s starting to confirm what we’ve all believed,” Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters

What a clown show. What a waste of a roster spot.
The timing is a shame
Shecky : 4/24/2017 9:05 am : link
Smith is more ready, but less of a need with Duda, Wilmer and Bruce able to handle it.
Rosario is a NEED at SS and 3B, but isn't ready for the call up.

not knocking Dom Smith (very nice start) but THIS was scored a "triple". I'm not taking issue with the official scorer just funny all triples look the same in the box score

the announcer called it right, single E8, not sure how you give him a 3B there. And how did he not score on that? Smith must have Flores speed.

He's reasonably athletic for his "size" but an EXTREMELY slow starter when it comes to running I'd guess he has an unusually odd split between his time to 1b and his time rounding the bases. My friend Michael is a slim dude yet for whatever the reason his first few steps when running are what we call "quicksand" lol
That was Doms second "triple" of the day
Shecky : 4/24/2017 10:04 am : link
I mentioned it about a week or so ago, but those in charge of minor league scoring - let's just say a lot is left to interpretation. Glad someone was able to YouTube it and it got viewed here though.

Have you seen the picture of Kevin Maitan standing next to Ryan Howard? How can a 17 year old be that big already. He is definitely going to outgrow SS.

Jay,
I haven't seen it but I'm not shocked. I think it was pretty close to a consensus he was a 3B long term.

Yeah it was expected and he is blocked by Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies.

Obviously
DanMetroMan : 4/24/2017 11:43 am : link
you prefer any top SS prospect to remain at SS but if his bat is really as good as advertised it's not a big deal (and yeah especially with Swanson).
Dom
Csonka : 4/24/2017 2:12 pm : link
He ran from home to home in under 17 seconds. That really isn't slow. I mean, it's not Jose Reyes or anything, but it's pretty average.

And the scoring is correct. That's a triple. Most inside the park HRs look similar and are scored without an error.
Milb.com
DanMetroMan : 4/24/2017 2:15 pm : link
gives him a 40 speed grade (50 is average)

Longenhagen/Fangraphs gives him 20/80 speed

"There are scouts who do not like Smith at all. He often appears aloof, he can single-handedly disrupt the pace of games just because of how long it takes him to sashay from the on-deck circle to the batter’s box, and I’ve clocked Smith, full-effort, from home to first in the 4.9- to 5.0-second range. Smith’s physique has long been a contentious subject among scouts as well and, while he’s arrived at camp looking less rotund than in the past, his mobility remains limited. If he hits, and I think he’s going to, I couldn’t care less about any of that."
PS
DanMetroMan : 4/24/2017 2:17 pm : link
I'm not complaining about the speed of a 1b but he's extremely slow from home to first. Zero impact on his MLB future. Just stating a fact.
That's an error all day long
Shecky : 4/24/2017 2:22 pm : link
Apparently changed to a triple after the scorer was told the sun was in the CFers eyes and he lost it. LOL, he didn't lose shit. Sun was overhead.

Reason I'd keep beating the dead horse of a CFer, watch the clip again. Watch his nonchalant "effort" once that ball gets past him... jogs back, tosses it back in. Embarrassing.

is Rosario's triple-

To put those running times in perspective
Shecky : 4/24/2017 2:30 pm : link
4.9/5 to first would be "undraftably" slow numbers from a prospect. Literally "last in the majors" type number. And this is from a lefty hitter who should have a .1 second advantage. Faster would be sub 4.0. Average, about 4.4.

The "17 second number". Don't know where it comes from, but perspective again. Fastest in majors would be sub 14. A fast player who doesn't trot like a Carlos Gomez is probably doing a true homer. Trot in about 17 seconds.

Note - I've always been one of the few Dom Smith defenders anywhere.

Now that's a triple. Triples and inside the park HR's are usually like Rosario's ball, a ball that goes over an OFers head and maybe hits the wall strangely or gets boxed around the OF corner or one they need to move laterally on that hits the gap (like Reyes's old school triples).

Not a ball hit right at the OFer that they miss-play. At best that play is a single, since a case could be made for the OFer letting it drop and playing it on a hop. But letting it get past you is not usually scored a triple.

And I like Dom Smith, I think he's got a future, but no idea how anyone can watch that video at real time speed and not come away shocked he didn't score.

Worked. Thanks
I was very curious to see a replay of the CFers cutoff throw, but it got cut off ( no pun intended)
Just curious

At what point does Tebow stop doing SEC games?
Last I checked, no other player is given such freedom.

Shecky,
There is a "conspiracy theory" going around that Dale Burdick was bumped to AA to replace Guillorme who would be replacing a promoted to the bigs Rosario. Any validity?
Not that I know of
Shecky : 4/24/2017 4:32 pm : link
But good for the kid on the short term promotion.
For them to being promoting Rosario now
Shecky : 4/24/2017 4:34 pm : link
Would have had to have been a major, MAJOR change in organizational thinking. In an extremely short period of time lol

Replacing another live body who may be heading east - that I'd buy though...

Thanks Shecky. They went on record saying they had no plans to promote him right now (just yesterday) so that would be a pretty rash/quick decision. I was just curious.

Keith Law responding in a Reddit chat today to a question about Rosario's likely call up time:

"Rosario doesn't have a ton of experience above high-A yet, so I don't think they're just playing service time games with him."
Bringing Rosario
pjcas18 : 4/24/2017 4:52 pm : link
up now would make no sense unless Cabrera is going to be out long term with the hamstring and Flores is more injured they thought. When I hear infection I think Daniel Fells and I hope Flores has nothing close to that.

Otherwise at this point it makes no sense to bring up Rosario to play sparingly.

On the other hand if either of those two things are true Cabrera and Flores I can possibly see a case, especially with Reyes struggles. This team needs table-setters, right now and maybe that's Rosario.
(He's kidding about Crismatt/Merandy)
DanMetroMan : 4/24/2017 4:54 pm : link
Hi Keith,

1. Most prospect sources see the Mets farm as middle of the pack, yet you seem to have them comfortably in the top 10. Why are you much higher on the Mets minor league system than most? Is it higher speculation of the Mets ranked prospects, or are there some hidden gems that catch your eye.

2. Speaking of hiddem gems, Merandy Gonzalez and Nabil Crismatt are two of my favorite under-the-radar Mets prospects. What's your outlook on those two?

3. What are your thoughts on Tim Tebow?

4. We all know Cecchini can hit, but his awful defense is really putting his future in jeopardy. With Amed Rosario being the cream of the crop, Guillorme poised for a breakout season, and Rivera and Evans proving to be two useful utilityman depth pieces, is Cecchini falling out of favor with the Mets brass? Do you think the Mets could experiment with Cecchini in LF, like they dabbled a bit with Reynolds, if he continues to have bad miscues in the field?

[–]ESPN Senior Baseball Writer, AuthorKeith_Law[S] 5 points an hour ago

1. Hard to answer that without knowing what others might say. I don't rely on other "prospect sources" to assemble my rankings.

2. You just made those names up.

3. Blocked and reported.

4. I agree, Cecchini's inability to play short crushes his value, because he can't even be a good utility infielder then. I would try him in left because there might just be enough hit tool to make him a capable extra outfielder ... I don't think he'd be good in center, but I would try it to see if there's anything there. I was pretty high on him a few years ago, but his throwing issues happened fast and have only worsened.

2nd and 3rd with two out, an obvious 'unintentional intentional walk' situation. Sure enough they pitched around him, and he just accepted it. Conversely, Don Smith goes after the first pitch with bases loaded.
