Saw them last night at the Altria Theater in Richmond. One of the most unique and entertaining shows I've ever seen. Comedy, storytelling, music, crowd interaction... Phenomenal. Reminded me of classic theater or something.
They started out with basically roasting each other and themselves, and then they transitioned into a bunch of Hollywood stories, like Steve Martin meeting Elvis in 1970 and Martin Short meeting Frank Sinatra in 92. Then Martin Short did a musical number by himself, then Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers came out, then Steve Martin did some solo banjo stuff, then the Steep Canyon Rangers played by themselves, then Martin came back and joined them, then Short, then it closed with everybody and everything going at once pretty much. No intermission, the show started at 7:30 and didn't end until almost 10, straight through. The physical comedy that Martin Short still does at near 70 years old is amazing. And when you see Steve Martin play the banjo with the Steep Canyon Rangers, you're seeing some of, if not THE, best pickers in the world.
During the first hour or so of the show, I was crying I was laughing so hard. My cheeks hurt for the rest of the night.
Highly recommend if they come near you.
I've never seen another show like it. I've seen a lot of concerts, but that's truly the only one I've seen where I was edge of my seat entertained from beginning to end, straight through. I didn't want it to end.
Funny stuff. - ( New Window )
They told some funny stories about making The Three Amigos, and concluded that segment by bringing up three dudes from the audience, teaching them the Three Amigo Salute, then singing the Three Amigos theme song and having the three audience members give the salute when prompted, at various points in the song.
