NFT: Knicks Chat: KP acknowledges being "annoyed" by Phil

DanMetroMan : 4/24/2017 10:06 am
Quoted in the April issue of the Latvian sports magazine Sporta Avize, Porzingis was asked if he will sign a second contract with the Knicks. Porzingis’ four-year rookie deal has two years left and he said he hopes to finish his career with the Knicks — with a caveat.

“Absolutely, I want to stay here all my career,’’ Porzingis said, according to the English translation provided by the magazine. “But the thing I want most of all is winning. When the time comes, I will seriously start to think about it. Right now I just try to do my best.”

“This was a situation media did not hesitate to heat up more than it was in reality. I think there was some mistakes from Phil — things he maybe shouldn’t [have] said or written, things that made the situation worse or made him not look good. But at the same time — it’s that kind of business. I understand.’’

So what? Is KP an important part of the Knicks or not? He's been in the league two years. He IS the Knicks at this point. The Knicks are a fucking circus at the very least. Far worse if we only knew the secrets that place possessed.

What does KP's accolades have to do with anything?

How many players are going to be wrong here before we realize it's not the player? The Knicks have run them ALL out of town! All of them! Gone! And they are still fucking playing!

KP is not wrong here. Fool me once...shame on them...fool me twice...no more. I am done defending the powers the be here. Done. I feel bad for Melo and he's a pain in the ass. But I feel for him. KP is fine in my book. HE's being infected by this shit stained asshole of a team and it's only a matter of time before he's done here. Just watch. And who's fault will that be?

You have every right to be pissed off at the organization as a fan, but I think it's made people ignore other peoples' behaviors too. Why on earth would anyone feel bad for Melo? He's run off coaches, including the guy who's going to get the Coach of the Year Award in a few months. His selfishness once made STAT so irate that he broke his hand during the playoffs in anger. His effort level on defense isn't even remotely commensurate with his salary and leadership position on this team. I defended Melo for a long time, but the idea that I would feel bad for him is preposterous.

Whatever "clout" KP has is based solely on his talent, not on his production at this point. We don't have to agree on this, but I'd prefer to see him handle his business (part of which includes exit meetings) before he worries about other people's business.

I've gone back n forth on Melo here but after thinking it through I blame ownership and knicks mgmt first and foremost. They suck. They ruin everything. I think Dolan might even cause cancer but I can't prove that.

MElo is a great player. He's a little weird maybe even very weird but he has not been the problem here in NYC. Surround Melo with good players and we'd be fine right now and last year and the year before.

The environment here is toxic. It doesn't matter the player or group of players. The end result will always be failure. The winning never lasts. No long term growth. No progress. No talent nurturing or cultivation of any kind. Every young player.....EVERY single one regresses. Maybe Dolan is just too loyal with these GM/coaching hires. Maybe he meddles too much at times and not enough at other times I don't know. All I know is we are mired in another front office fiasco situation. The only thing Phil hasn't done wrong, and it's a big one, is run off any future assets like IT or layden or others have done. And he drafted KP and Gomez.

KP is an accomplished veteran now. He's got some clout here.

What fucking accomplishment????????????????????

Again you're missing the point. KP isn't an established NBA player? WTF have you been watching? ON every single under 25 list, KP is top 3-5. Every single one. He's a player now. How long does one need to play for you to accept him as a respected voice? 5 years? KP is the Knicks.

just skip a meeting because we dont like our boss we are fired on the spot no matter who you are..

I am the boss. And I wouldnt fire someone on the spot for skipping a meeting.

seems to me if there was a problem or kp had a problem with something he should of went to phil and aired everything out because that was the time for it..

just skipping the meeting made him look like a whiny baby and someone who doesnt have very thick skin

You're assuming that there has been no KP-Phil communication. Maybe KP (or thru his agent) has made his thoughts known, and was sending a message by not sitting thru some garbage Phil meeting where Phil doesnt acknowledge his failures in building the team and instead irrationally craps on KP for not being Michael Jordan, not being ready, nor not adopting the Triange as a religion.

Your attempt to compare your employment to an NBA star's situation makes no sense. Put aside the fact that they have contracts. KP is a unique, world class talent. Those people dont get fired for doing the shit you wouldnt dare do. Athletes, actors, musicians etc. They play by different rules because they are not fungible.

Thank you.

Last thing I will say is it most definitely does matter what I think of the Knicks front office. I am questioning the standards of said front office. I don't know for sure if they should be respected as such. Yes, KP should suck it up and attend the meeting if the meeting was with someone that garnered even an ounce of respect.

We really don't know the extent of how bad things could be at MSG. KP's behavior shouldn't draw scrutiny to him as much as it should to MSG. From everything we have read and observed of KP he's squeaky fuckin clean. He's as humble and grounded an athlete as we have ever seen here. Now look at Phil. Lol...who's side are you taking?

second you have no problem with the person the knicks plan on building the future around skipping meetings and basically running to latvia without any care what the knicks think? pretty big red flag to me, what happens next year when he is the face and the media starts saying he cant be a number 1? he going to start skipping things again because he cant handle the dysfunction?

and i am a boss to and if someone directly disrespected me and then a week goes by and has no communication yeah i am thinking long and hard about firing him or her..

My concern is that the Knicks are terribly run. I dont have a problem with KP using this meeting as a tool to express his displeasure. If he just shows up and complains, it is likely in one ear and out the other.

You circle back to firing. KP cannot be fired. If KP's contract were voided, he would be the happiest player in the NBA. He's sign a $100 million dollar contract with whatever team he wanted.

obviously he can not be fired, but in my eyes right now i dony think kp can handle new york..

what is he going to do next year when the knicks are losing again and all the balme is showered onto him because melo is no longer here to take it all?

melo was his security blanket and now that melo is most likely gone kp knows that blanket is gone and its time to put up or shut up and he is scared in my opinion..

he knows every double team is coming to him and the scoring load will fall on his shoulders

Wow. You really believe that? Dude, it's simple...KP can't stand Phil. The guy comes off as a first rate asshole. Who the hell knows how Phil has "communicated" with the players or what's been said.

We can disagree about the importance of "accomplishment(s)" in this issue, but that is not an actual accomplishment. Forget about lists or awards... has he even put together 4 consecutive months of good basketball yet? He has skill and he has potential. The next step should be turning those things into consistent production. That should be his singular focus. When he does that, I'll be very happy. Then he will have earned the right to be a respected voice IMO. The fact that he "is the Knicks" says far less about what KP has done and earned than it does about the moribund state of the franchise. He's a grown man and he can give his opinion about anything he wants. I'd just prefer for him to handle his own business first.

think the thing I'd like to see Phil recognize it going back to the same "well" is not a good plan aka Rose did not help KP/Willy and developing those 2 (along with whomever we take lotto) should be the #1 focus thus even if the option is an inferior pure talent ie Sergio Rodriguez or Shaun Livingston type... that's the direction they need to go.

he's an NBA player that every single team would kill to have. He's got a voice. He should have a voice. Shit, I don't care if the 12th man pulled this too. Go ahead! I get it.

I'll side with KP over Knicks mgmt. HE's earned some trust where as Phil has blown every ounce of trust I had out the window. He's a wad. I just pray he doesn't fuck the franchise over with some killer move. I shudder.

he has came off as a first rate assholr before and players love him..

he ripped kobe in his book and kobe begged lakers to hire him back..

why does kp get to just skip a meeting because he doesnt like phil? you think every single nba player likes upper management? yet all of them made it to their meeting..

every knock player made it to their meeting, do they not hate phil?

Eh... Odell is without question one of the 2 or 3 best players at his position in the sport. He's quite possibly 1 of the 10 best players in the sport regardless of position.

KP isn't even remotely close to that. If KP was on Odell's level, I would say fire anyone he doesn't like, Phil included. He's a good kid with a lot of potential. Meanwhile people are talking about him proving points and the Knicks have to prove stuff to him. Huh? He needs to get his game up before he starts worrying about other stuff.

the master of the long winded argument so I'm being a hypocrite but I really think you guys are arguing a non-issue. The Knicks own his rights through 2019 and then he is restricted. If post 2020 the Knicks are still such a disaster that he leaves massive money on the table then in all honesty this franchise is cursed (at least with this owner). KP has not shown any pattern of being a baby. He probably should have handled this differently (it seems like his brother/agent may have been involved with this decision) but I doubt Phil or KP are losing much sleep over this. I bet deep down Phil probably LIKES that KP is showing this much fire.
I'm almost certain
Enzo : 4/25/2017 1:58 pm : link
that since the current version of the rookie scale was implemented, there hasn't been a single player that has turned down a max money offer on the second contract from the team that drafted him.

Of course, it would be typical Knicks for them to be the first team to experience this.

KP's boss refuses to move on from Kurt Rambis. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
