NFT: Need help with concrete purchase

tbonfig : 4/24/2017 4:11 pm
I need about 3-4 yards of concrete for a home project. I'm new to this and started calling around. I've heard about $140/yard, which is what it is, but the real kicker to me was the $200+ delivery fee for a short-load.

Anyone have any suggestions here? I feel like based on the amount I need I'm in the tough zone of getting it premixed or mixing it myself.

Would love some insight from anyone with similar experience.
Seems like a no brainer to me.

Pay for what you just said. 3-4 yds is a shitload for a novice to mix. Plus you gotta rent a mixer, haul the dry mix to your house, try to get some consistency in your batches, and thrn them out quickly.
What's your location

and what mix are you getting quoted on?

Ugh, sucks. Had no clue it would cost $800ish!

I'm in Connecticut.

It is for a footing for a stone wall. I think they said something like 3,000 with 3/4 stone. Does that make sense?
Well that does it

I'm setting up a plant in Connecticut. For 3000lb footing mix I get 91.25 per yard. A 3 yard short load is 139.00 and a 4 yard short is 120.00. So you would be looking at somewhere around 500.00. But I'm in upstate NY.
maybe a neighbor needs some concrete for a project they are doing

and you could split the cost?

Sometimes hiring a contractor is cheaper than doing it yourself for reason like this. A contractor often gets discount or complete waiver of these type of fees because they buy so much in a year.
Also ask them the allowed time per yard.

It gets very expensive if you go over that time!

Yeah considering Fairfield County is overpriced for virtually everything I don't see why concrete would be any different.

This is a great suggestion except I'm not really friends with my neighbors :). Good idea though.
