Khalfani Muhammad, Cal RB.

TC : 4/24/2017 11:25 pm
One of the prospects with whom the Giants have had a private meeting. But why? Yeah, he's fast, but he's a dinky 175 pound RB. Then watch him - DAMN he runs hard for 175 pounds!

Video Highlights - ( New Window )
I don't know that . . . .

he plays to his timed 4.34 40, but I don't care. You don't see many 175 pound RB's running over defenders and dragging DL. No, check that . . . . you don't see ANY!
Has some sproles in him

him. Speed and toughness, with some wiggle, and good hands. Also a returner, so has the versatility the Giants crave. Lack of size hurts him obviously. Day three, he'd be a good pick.
Can he field punts at an NFL quality starting PR level?
If yes, go for it. We can carry a true all kick returner.

If no, pass. Cannot carry a KR only.
As a Cal fan that goes to most games...

The thing about Muhammad is he has Olympic speed. He trains every year for track and field missing spring training not focusing fully on football in the off seasons. My bet is he could add some mass to about 180-185 while still maintaining most of his speed. Plus that 4.34 40 time was on a wet field as it was raining during Cal's pro day. They say he runs in the 4.2's however when you put in combine time probably means somewhere in the low 4.3's. He runs with great power for his size, has pretty good vision, pretty good hands, pretty good at pass blocking, pretty good kick returner, but gets dinged some and never fully dedicated himself to pure football. I would bet if he would have, he would be 185+ with much better stats and get drafted. Have never seen him return a punt that I can remember and we were bad at PRs so if he could have I would bet he would have. It could be though that because he missed so much football time doing track and field that they didn't have him dedicate time to catching punts. Hard working kid, but with his size and the fact he is always a little banged up I would bet he goes undrafted. Maybe Darius Powe tells him to come here!
I like him a lot actually. But he has got to

add some weight and bulk otherwise he won't get out of preseason.
Amtoft: Did not know you were a Berkeley fan
What is your opinion of Powe? Based on what you saw, can he help us after a year on the PS.

I am fine with him being "the other guy," just a solid, complementary piece who could step up when needed.
