Best Italian Restaurant in Upstate... the owner is a BBIer and rabid Giants fan. And my best friend. He's neck and neck at the goal line. Help a brother out with a vote to get LV into the endzone! Thanks! Link - ( New Window )
It's not even in the top few for me in the area. Oaks is probably my favorite. I'm pretty surprised actually. Oaks, Consols, Tonys, Nicks, Cortese - to me all come before Little V.
Added all up, thinking about gems in upstate NY -my vote would be for

Consoles and Cortese are good and I eat their often (although at Cortese, I tend to lean towards steak ("Milanese Style")and love their pizzas), but as for pasta and sauce, I think Little Venice is tops. And I'm thinking that ranking an Italian Restaurant, you have to go with ranking them by pasta and sauce.
In the grand scheme of things though, we're helping out a fellow Giants' fan and website brother. The others you mention are not even listed in the survey so it's moot anyway.
...hands-down. Simply on another level above LV, Consul, Cortese and Nirchi-Ave. I don't eat veal, but do make an exception at Oaks. Just outstanding in everything they do there.
Little Venice isn't 'bad', 'average' Italian, their sauce - beloved by many - is unique but way too sweet for most. That said I DO love their ravioli parm and it is a restaurant my family hits a few times each year.
There are so many great restaurants suddenly in the Tri Cities - Little Venice and Consul's were both very smart to redesign and re-establish their niche's - Little Venice is great if you've got a large group, rowdy kids or are trying to save some money, a good Italian restaurant, but it isn't top shelf.
if you're sweetening, you're hiding something. meat logs? cmon... lazy. and the protein mix is not my favorite.
Sadly, sweetening a tomato sauce is to reduce acid. I never ate at LV's but dislike sweet tomato sauce. For me, it needs that "tart" authentic grandma's kitchen taste.

I've been there, cool concept. Ambiance is cheesy but 'unique' - Oaks is without a doubt the better bet.
cacciatore's has also really taken off.
I have heard they add some grape jelly to their sauce. A common seasoning trick for mini meatball cocktails. Although, the sauce at Little Venice is sweeter than some places, it's not as sweet as the stuff used in a crock pot of cocktail meatballs. Personally, I like it
Bingalings cannot be trusted to judge Italian food! Some of the most disgusting pizza I've ever eaten (Pudgies would make any Brooklyn navite gag) - and really - I LOVE the Cortese family - Little Venice is a staple of Binghamton, but this is NOT top-shelf Italian.
I can deal with Little Venice, cause it's unique - I'd call it 'Americanized' Italian. Sweet to the point they debunk the claims of APPLESAUCE in their sauce right on the menu!
Good pizza is hard to find up here - best in the area is Joeys (he's from Bay Ridge) and Aiellos in WP (they're from Queens).

You spent far too much time in Jersey. The real Italians moved to the southern tier to make to real Italian food.

Jersey/Manhattan/Queens/Brooklyn/HOBOKEN. Even Lodi. I know my Italian. I'z 50% - everyone from Jersey is at least 50%. :)

Hiding something? Yeah, since the 40's... Meat logs rule and the chicken parm is off the fuckin chain.
