I don't believe anything about his knee until he's out on the field. Even if it's mini camp. It's been well over a year. He may recover. He may not, but even if it heals he still may not be the same player
With the statement any good news out of Dallas is bad news. I wish this kid all the best and hope he makes a full recovery. Once on the field I hope the Giants beat him but until then I wish him all the best as he works hard to save his dream.
in poor taste. Forget this "bad news for the Giants" angle. If the kid is starting to get healthy and perhaps can walk normally again, and can have the chance to live his dream of playing in the NFL, then it's good news for the kid and that should be the end of it.
Dallas is blowing smoke due to the previous negative press on this
Frankly I find it ridiculous that they are talking about a #2 pick, in terms of "how great it is he is starting to move his toes". The NFL has athletic freaks, and they blew a draft pick on a guy who they are hoping 1 year later can move his toes. I feel very bad for the player, but not the Cowboys. IMO, and its just my opinion, they would be better off playing a FA pickup instead of Smith.

+1. This poor kid worked all his life to have it jeopardized by a late hit. It has cost him plenty of money and his chance at his dream. I for one hope it works out for him, although I don't think it's likely.
He's not out of the woods yet, but that is a good sign for him.
But hopefully he does not look like the player he was at ND pre injury. Dont want any cowboy to be that good, he had the talent to make sean lee look like a jag. Hopefully he finds happiness and health away from the football field for our teams sake, until then hes just another one of the Pokes.
Some Cowboy fans probably hoped Chad Jones would lose his leg.
i hope the kid heals up. the way he went down was tough, got shoved kind of unneccessarily when he was away from the play. hate to see dallas with good players but i cant wish harm to a kid, regardless of the hemet he wears
In addition, there is no expectation that Smith will snap his fingers and become the top-level linebacker he might have been before his injury. The Cowboys are optimistic he will return to full health and be a valuable on-field contributor for the team moving forward.
The Cowboys spent a high #2 on someone who MIGHT be a a valuable on-field contributor if he returns to full health. Personally I think the Cowboys took a gamble that will not pay off.
BTW the Cowboys bypassed Myles Jack to take Smith. How did Jack do last year?
Don't care if he's a cowboy. That was just a horrible injury at the worst possible time. Felt terrible for the kid. Can't imagine the struggles he had to go through to finally get to this point. I wish him a full recovery and a long productive NFL career.
especially right out of college like that, may never have the chance to perform his best on the field because of injuries...Even if those guys happen to play for our division rivals. We all know how much it sucks to see a guy with great talent never get to show it on the field (Wilson is a prominent recent example, Chad Jones, etc), never want to see that happen to guys who have worked their entire lives to have a chance at doing something very few get to at that level.
Smith still has a lot of work ahead of him to get back out there, and unfortunately you never know if guys come back the same from some injuries (again, Cruz for a Giants example). It's all too common sometimes.
Too soon to tell. Jist spin IMO

The article says he can finally lift his toes - that is miles from being able to play on an NFL field.
Me too, the young man was a good looking player at ND.
I hope he makes it back, for his sake.
