NFT: Mets talk 4/25 Mets and Braves!

ZGiants98 : 10:54 am
What a mess the last week has been. One week ago we were flying high and then we get destroyed by injuries, get swept by the Nats, and have to deal with a string of heartbreaking losses. Time to get back on track...

-Gsellman VS Teheran

-Michael Conforto is red hot and will continue to leadoff

-Matt Reynolds is in NY standing by (presumably if Cespedes needs to go to the DL)

-Duda thinks he'll be ready as soon as the 10 DL stint is up.

LGM!
Bench is an ugly mess right now...
ZGiants98 : 10:58 am : link
Flores is out. Lagares just got back and is struggling. We have 8 relievers which is stupid. We have 3 catchers. Cespedes is clogging a spot. YUCK.
Chance of rainout tonight
is pretty high, no?
Do we really need 4 friggin lefties in the pen? lol
ZGiants98 : 11:00 am : link
Send Gilmartin to Vegas and activate Reynolds regardless of Cespedes.

Yeah supposed to have rain. We'll see.

is excited to get back for his next injury.
For all the talk of a brutal start offensively....
ZGiants98 : 11:06 am : link
Michael Conforto wRC+ wRC+ 199 (holy shit lol)
TDA wRC+ 118
Lucas Duda wRC+ 145
Yoenis Cespedes wRC+ 169
Jay Bruce wRC+ 149

Cabrera, Walker, and Reyes have SUCKED but we could theoretically field a lineup where our top 5 hitters are all red hot and hitting. Unfortunately, three of those players are out right now....
Reynolds up
Shecky : 11:18 am : link
Don't think it relies on Cespedes entirely. Ces ready to go, Reynolds still up

That would be great. Send a catcher back. Hopefully TDA is ready too. Sorry Sheck (Plaw)
I really want to see Plawecki

just get an uninterrupted month or two in Vegas and see what he can do. If he cant hit there with an extended stint Im pretty much done with him, hate to say it. We'll never know if he's on the shuttle bus and coming off the bench though.
does this thread really require an exclamation point after the

Good news amongst the gloom
ZGiants98 : 11:32 am : link
I really thought Wheeler looked phenomenal Sunday. He made one bad pitch to Murphy but he was pretty much perfect outside of that first inning. Let's be real. NOBODY thought Wheeler would look this good this early. He could have come out for the 8th if we wanted to push him and he's not walking guys. Wheeler has a completely different delivery that he's supposedly worked very hard on and it's paying off. Im surprised there hasn't been more talk of this. He reminded me of a mini-deGrom on Sunday. Add that Harvey has looked good coming back from a brutal surgery and deGrom is pitching like it's 2015 again and I still have to believe this thing is going to turn around if we can get the lineup healthy again.
To be honest, if I were running the team
Shecky : 11:33 am : link
I'd put tad on the 60 day DL and list some asinine reason. Suck it up buttercup, and play. If you don't want to play, then don't let him play.

He pinch hit in every game but said his hand was still bothering him when he threw right? You think TDA is dictating who is playing?
Noah Syndergaard might be off to the greatest start
ZGiants98 : 11:58 am : link
Ive ever seen. In only 26 innings he ALREADY has a 1.6 fWAR (LOL), still hasn't allowed a single walk, and has a 0.72 FIP.

Listen, there are a lot of positives to take away...I guess...but he gave up 4 runs and lost the game. He did not give up 4 runs because of 1 bad pitch. He hit a batter, gave up two singles, and then a grand slam to Daniel F'n Murphy (who's been cold as ice). However, it was nice to see him settle down after that. I just can't stand when people say "outside of the 5 runs he gave up, he looked great!"

Reality is that he's been up and down since his return...which was totally expected. Hopefully he can build on it but he's also a big reason why our BP has been taxed so much.

Not picking on you Z, just a pet peeve of mine.

Cmon man, I'm pretty sure Kershaw just last year was just as good (if not better) through his first 4 starts.
Supposed to go to
JayBinQueens : 12:50 pm : link
the game tonight

I can't see them playing it - just hope they call it sooner rather than later.
You know it isn't that hard to check these things...
ZGiants98 : 1:56 pm : link
Kershaw had a FIP of 2.34 after 4 starts last year and his WAR was well under one. If you want to laugh, laugh at the small sample and the fact that there's no way Syndergaard will maintain what he's done but let's not diminish it. The top closers in the game will pitch 70-80 innings and barely get to the WAR Thor is sitting at right now after a few weeks. Thor is on a pace to be roughly a 14 WAR player this season which would be far the greatest season in major league history. It's truly ridiculous and I was clearly was citing as an amusing andedoct. Of course he isn't going to maintain it.

As for Wheeler... yeah... he had a rough inning.. I wasn't citing the game though. I'm talking about silver linings in an otherwise rough start to the year and Wheeler is one of them. He hasn't played in 2 years. He currently has the lowest walk rate of his entire career. In Sunday's game, he gave up fewer hits to the Nats raging hot "A lineup" than Sherzer did to the ice cold Mets "JV lineup". Sometimes it's a little bit about perspective. I get it, we need wins... but I would definitely call Wheeler a positive so far this year.
Chris Sale
ZGiants98 : 2:05 pm : link
Off to an equally blistering start this year. Wow
.
arcarsenal : 2:05 pm : link
Chris Sale has a 0.91 ERA and 1.5 fWAR (Syndergaard's is 1.4, not 1.6)

Greatest start ever?

Well I did say "might". Lol. Yeah. Looks like I was off by two ticks. Makes it a little better I guess. Either way it's absurd. We are going into May and the guy still doesn't even have a strike to walk ratio yet. Sometimes it's ok to step back and say "wow". I'm basically ripping the construction of our team, saying Cabrera, Walker, and Reyes suck, ect. Just pointing out a few positives also.
.
arcarsenal : 2:14 pm : link
Nah, I know. Thor is the real deal. Elite SP - one of the best in the entire sport at this point.

Just hoping we can right the ship a bit here - very frustrating week.
and my rough math was a bit off...
ZGiants98 : 2:21 pm : link
Assuming Syndergaard makes 30 starts, he would be on pace for an fWAR of 10.5 (not 14). Kershaw's best season ever brought home an 8.6.

Again, small sample and means nothing, just clarifying.

Wheeler
Vanzetti : 4:19 pm : link
I don't ever remember is curveball being as good as it was the other night. It was just dropping off the table.

The average velocity on his fastball (94.4 mph) is the same as it was his rookie year. Might not have quite as much life but he is locating it better. He was throwing it an inch off the plate and not getting the calls from the ump, whereas Scherzer was getting some of those called strikes.

His slider does not have much break but when he throws it in the strike zone it fools guys who think it is a fastball. His changeup is the same velocity but usually breaks in the opposite direction. If he can improve the change a bit, he will have a great repertoire.
Im down for a rainout
