NFT: Home Security Systems - ADT vs SimpliSafe vs Frontpoint

ImThatGuy : 4/26/2017 8:24 am
Moving to a new home and want to get a security system, I was shocked by the cost of ADT plus a 3 year commitment& #8203; seems absurd. Does anyone here have simplisafe or frontpoint? Any comments or other systems I should be considering?

Thanks
I had frontpoint when I moved in

but the wife hated the voice controls and we never really turned it on. It was fine while we used it, but didn't really use it much after a year or so.
Where do you live?

I'm not in a position to compare

but I've had ADT for years. My experience is that the window/door sensors they use are somewhat cheap and occasionally generate false positives, but the live monitoring on their side has been reliable and great.
I had ADT switched to Vivint.

Very good monitoring and service, and less expensive than ADT.
I just recently switched from ADT to Protect America.

Yes, there is a 3 year committment, but I got tons of equipment for free(4 door sensors, 5 window sensors, motion detectors and 2 indoor cameras) and I'm paying less than what I was paying with ADT.
I hear SimpliSafe is pretty good

and have been happy so far. Easy to install on your own and no contract. Just call before you buy if you have pets. Motion sensors have to be placed differently. I got the basic monitoring, not the cell phone app etc.

with security system costs. There are too many hands in the cookie-jar when getting a system installed.
The only plausible solution is to do the install yourself and then pay for monitoring.

Is a great service but you do buy the equipment. No contract, basically a cellphone so no wires to cut. 14.99 a month. Response time has been good(local service calls if it goes off if you don't answer they call the local PD). If you have Pets motion sensors are useless but the glass break sensors are very good. It matters how many entrances points you have to how many sensors you need. It's all wireless and you can install it all in 30 minutes or less. Have had it over 2 years now no problems added smoke and carbon detectors and got a nice discount on my homeowner insurance too.
