NFT: Billions (spoilers)

Matt M. : 12:06 pm
The last episode (10) was another pretty good one. But, I still find Taylor to a little too robotic. That said, it was an interesting encounter with Brian. Taylor certainly doesn't seem likely to rat out Axe. In fact, it seems more likely they will do more to aid and abet Axe, at this point.

I think we will see more internal conflict with Taylor, though. The week before, there seemed to be a level of discomfort to go along with enjoyment of the private jet. Now, the luxe apartment and huge bonuses. This character may still be in flux.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I am not enamored with Wendy. She is attractive, but I don't get why people are drooling over her or her character.

How did/does Chuck not think all his time in S& M clubs, etc. was not going to come out in a run for Governor, especially with an enemy like Axe. When Boyd summoned Axe to his job, I thought it was going to be him revealing this discovery.

The interaction with the pizza guy was eh. That is supposed to be the fallout of his actions with the town? They should have reserved that for when he was more clear headed, instead of in the middle of a family crisis.

Speaking of which, what do you think the story ark will be with Lara? I get her being mad, but I think it was a little bit of an over reaction.

What I find most interesting is that you can never really root for either Axe or Chuck, nor can you ever really root against them.

What I find annoying is that typing about Taylor is difficult when it comes time for pronouns. I still think that is a gratuitous part of the character to seem progressive.

When Axe went to meet with his pal from Spartan Ives he brought the bottle of scotch and he immediately says "I cant they piss test me". Then they discusses a stock scam to screw over Rhodes. As Axe is leaving the guy takes the bottle and drinks with a look that says "Ah thats over"

I'm convinced that conversation was bugged and Axe will blame this on Lara for clouding his mind/judgement. Just a theory but I think that's whats going to happen as a season ending cliffhanger.

Loving this season but this was a weak episode. Not a fan of Axes wife Lara. Not a good actor or character and I hate the plots involving her.

How hot did Mary Louise Parker look? She's still got it.
The S&M woman in regular clothing
just blew away all the other women in the show

Agree on Lara. Especially annoying was the whole "business venture". Last year, the restaurant and farm was something that made sense. This IV to executives was ludicrous and how did she expect to go from making one trip to Axe Capital to a ton of VC loot virtually overnight? And, then just like that it's dropped?
And this whole storyline with Maphee
Matt M. : 12:37 pm : link
is dumb. All of a sudden he is a bungling idiot? He wouldn't still be there if he was.

And, I'm sorry, but every one of Axe's deals is just a drop of inside info and a hunch and then fudging the numbers to justify it? Not buying it.
Agreed about Lara

She brings nothing to the table. If Axe ever has to make a choice between her and Wendy he takes Wendy.

What does Wendy bring to the table? Honestly. She just seems like a smug bitch in her dealings with every other character on the show.
No love on

that Boyd screwing Axe over theory? Seemed fairly clear to me when he took a chug from the scotch after their conversation that he 100% was wired up for.

She brings value to the firm. He pep talks give Axe's guys an edge they would not have otherwise. I get the impression that Lara trys to think she's valuable and until the IV thing Axe just humored her.

Are you sure Boyd said that and/or meant it? When he called Axe to meet him at his work release he said "bring me a bottle of 20-year" - and that meant Scotch.

It wouldn't make sense for him to then say "I can't they piss test me".

I'm not saying Boyd is definitely not a Rhoades pawn at this time, the thought crossed my mid, but I don't think the scotch quote makes sense.

Boyd calls Axe initially he says to bring him a bottle of 20 year old for the trip - which is scotch. When Axe arrives Boyd says Ah you know I really can't even drink it because they piss test me.

Then they chat and he takes a big swig after the fact. To me it looked like he needed a drink after that chat because he is in the process of fucking Axe over to get himself a shorter sentence.

Just a theory but I think it plays well as we near the end of the season.

I can certainly see Boyd as a flunkie for Rhoades, especially if it gets him out of prison. But, I thought he was just being facetious when he requested the scotch. He knew he really wasn't supposed to have it. And, since Axe is a billionaire, it's no skin off his back to grab a bottle.

That said, maybe Boyd simply wanted to see if he would bring it. Maybe this is nitpicking, but I also thought it odd how Axe had it in a crumpled paper bag, as if he was passing off some 40 or a pinto of cheap liquor. And I understand it is work release, but Boyd is working in an empty building with no supervision of any kind. Does that make sense.

Also, a great use of taxpayer dollars for a bunch of on duty cops to be parked outside of Lara's brother's home.

It's certainly possible. It's also possible he just said fuck it and took a chance because he is thrilled to screw over Rhoades.
If Boyd's intent is to sink Axe by being wired,
MOOPS : 1:05 pm : link
that same information sinks The Rhoades financially, both Sr. and Jr. So no wire.

That information doesn't necessarily sink Rhoades. We discussed this a bit last week. Nobody was quite sure what the deal was with the loan from the trust, the investment, etc. It didn't really seem like insider trading.
Doesn't have to be an insider thing.
MOOPS : 1:47 pm : link
Chuck is walking a tightrope every episode, whether from Axe's doing or self inflicted. Axe loves to fuck with him, as with the WWII book. Chuck on his own is hurting financially.
Think death by a thousand cuts, some deeper than others.

I think Chuck's finances are overplayed as a problem. He is making over $200K and his wife makes 7 figures. There is nothing that says he has to pay for everything. If they got divorced, there is a good chance she would pay him alimony and receive no child support. Likewise, his trust is almost certainly protected from a divorce. He could/would survive.
What did Axe
pjcas18 : 2:07 pm : link
even say to Boyd that could incriminate Axe?

Seemed like from memory Boyd did most of the talking.

Axe did put him in contact with some shady people to perform illegal acts.

during their conversation at the school or whatever it was that Boyd was cleaning?

In either case the ice juice stuff seems 100% more likely to hurt Rhoades than Axe- based on what we know.
Even if Boyd was wired.
