In a way, I'm glad I stopped playing after HS.

I had been accepted into the Coast Guard academy and was to play there but would need to change my position from LB to Safety due to my size. I decided to go to another school and to not play anymore. I missed playing for a long time, but looking back, it was definitely for the best. I'm sure I've had at least double digit undiagnosed concussions already, but had I kept playing l, it could have been much worse.

Still don't regret a minute of my playing days.
That sucks

I wish him the best. Not to turn this into a Giants thread but there's simply no way we should trade for him (and maybe teams knew about this already). People think being healthy means no structural damage but that simply isn't the case. Wouldn't surprise me at all if JT retires.
Dave Te To UConn

Wondering if that could be why teams have shied away from trading for him the last two years
It's really not possible to know the extent of damage
732NYG : 4/26/2017 8:12 pm : link
that's been done to these guys' brains until after they've died unfortunately. You can talk about how bad their symptoms may be and how they may be affected by it, but that only tells you so much. It's pretty scary, and I don't think this is going to get better anytime soon.
He has the right perspective
larryflower37 : 4/26/2017 8:16 pm : link
If you go in with the clear perspective and choose to take the risk for the pay.
It's the deal with the devil that most would make.
Especially inner city kids with not much opportunity outside of sports.
Boxing has been this way for decades but kids still climb in the ring for the big payday.
Thomas as set his family up for life and risked his health to do it.
Such a professional

Huge fan of his. Very rational and practical take by him.

Seems very plausible to me. If he's open with it in an interview it's quite possible it's known throughout the league.
Hey UConn

Off the subject, but it looks like a Husky or two not playing safety will be in the NFL this year. If you are a UConn guy & saw the games, curious for your take on the Denmark kid Knappe as a late round find

school and college careers and what I resent most about the whole thing is the mentality back then when you had no idea WTF was going on inside your head. You had trainers and coaches looking at you like you were nuts. Shine a flashlight in your eyes, "you're alright, get back in there!" Harry Carson often talks about that fact in his career back then. One game, we were at New Brunswick, I came down the field split interference to the returner (with my head) on a kickoff return, saw a white flash and walked to the opposing team's sideline. NB Head coach walks up to me and says get over on your own side of the field. I felt like I was waking up to begin the school day. That was the mentality back then. I've had numerous scans having been involved in aviation and test work, but "it" can pop up at any time and I wouldn't do degenerative disease well. Never regret the sacrifice, or the game, or how I played it, just can't say I'd be willing to mentor a kid to do the same, however.

Hey Dave, I didn't watch them much this year. There's a few guys on the board who watch every game and know the program better than I do. I kinda lost touch once Edsall left for MD. We stunk after that and then I graduated and lost interest.
