Projected Draft Day Trade

NEWENGLANDGIANTS : 4/27/2017 8:17 am
I am looking at the draft board this morning and I have this trade idea.

First, remember that we traded with the Titans two years ago to move up in the second round to take Landon Collins.

Tennessee picks at 19, we are at 23.

The Titans have needs at corner and receiver and it is likely that they can get a guy they like if they move back a few picks.

On the other hand, the Giants could see a tackle or tight end taken right in front of them.

Would you move up to get Ramczyk or Njoku. Probably have to give up a 4th and a later pick.
They pick at 18

And, no.
the could "likely"

get the guy they wanted?

If the Giants wanted a guy and they were likely to get him anyway by moving down, I'd be pissed, especially if they lost the guy.
No

Yeah. I don't why we should do it, but let's just do it....

what about if mccaffery/howard make it to 13
DCPollaro : 4/27/2017 8:27 am : link
do we swap with arizona? costing our 1st,2nd,4th or 5th?
Not for Ramczyk or Njoku

are we one player away?

if we did not lose Hankins.....I would be more open to trading away picks.

This draft is deep with talent but relatively flat in quality.

so I say no.....with a *.

this draft has limited LT options....and if the Giants feel they can solve their OL issues with one player....then do it.

but I doubt it. Flowers seem like a better options to any of the available players.....
you don't give up picks for

McCafferey or Howard. It's not like we don't have offensive playmakers.
Picks after round 3 are for depth

In this era of salary Cap a rookie slot saves about $500,000k. Depending on a teams situation (and if a certain player is there) it might make sense as there are tons of depth players looking for work.
I would not trade up for any of the OL

Like the qbs they are all 2nd rounders. I would trade up for Njoku a couple of spots and the asking price was either a 4th this year or a 3rd next year. Draft picks after round 2 are way over rated.
I'd trade a 4th to get the player we covet.
yatqb : 4/27/2017 8:51 am : link
Who that player is I'm unclear about, but sure, go up and get a stud.

I personally wouldn't be happy about going up for Njoku, 'cause I'm not that impressed with him.
if we think a player is a top 10 player in the draft
DCPollaro : 4/27/2017 8:55 am : link
and by the time pick makes it to us at 23 we would get someone much further down....id trade up if not too costly to grab someone in front of Philly

Will almost NEVER want to trade up for any reason, because that means that THEY get fewer picks.

They've been planning THEIR draft for months and now you want them to give up one of their picks?

It's like asking a kid on Christmas morning if he (or she) wants to get a few less presents this year?

The reality is that sometimes trading up makes sense and works out well (ex: Landon Collins and Shockey).

I think there are a number of scenarios where the Giants should consider trading up in RD 1.
look what Atlanta gave up to move into

top 10 for julio jones....i think they got the better end of that deal

This is a draft for accumulating second round picks. If for instance Cleveland wanted to move back into the end of the first round (3 first round picks). I'd take happily take 33, 52 and say 145 off them to do. It's a deep but flat draft. Or even if Atlanta want to offer their 1st and 2nd to move up. I'd probably even take their 3rd and 5th if it came to it to use to move back into the second round.

Given the lack of oline talent available I doubt the solution is going to be there and I doubt they play at tackle this year.
I certainly wouldn't

trade up for those two.

The only way I see them trading up is if they have a legitimate shot at Howard or McCaffrey.

Trading means you need a partner and it all depends on what someone else wants that you have. For instance, we trade up 5 spots to grab McCaffrey because the team has no interest in him and knows they can still get their guy at our 23rd and pick up an extra pick. And we can trade down if there is someone on the board that another team "must have" and there's no one left that we want that bad that can't be just as good further down the board.

All depends on what other teams feel they must have or if they aren't in love with anyone on the board that they can't get later.

It'll be very fluid as the night unfolds, but I have this gut feeling that today is the day that the Giants trade up or down. We shall see in about 12 hours.
I should add

that getting the phone call from another team puts you in the cat bird's seat. Making the call to the other team to make an offer puts the other team in the cat bird's seat. Hopefully the phone rings a lot in the Giants' war room from teams vying for our 23rd and they keep sweetening the pot.
