Saints Dangling Mark Ingram

nflscouting : 4/27/2017 10:49 am
With the Peterson signing and four other veterans in the backfield, the Saints are trying to see if they can get anything in return for Mark Ingram. A few teams have offered a fourth round pick, but the Saints are trying to get a third rounder.
The question is - would you as Giants GM offer a third for the ball carrier, or rather see what falls out of the tree during the draft?
Still young (27)..If healthy, a 4th
Big Blue '56 : 4/27/2017 10:51 am : link
would be fine with this fan
The latter
Anakim : 4/27/2017 10:51 am : link
Ingram is really underused in New Orleans, but I wouldn't trade anything more than a fourth. It's a deep RB class and we can find a nice complement to Perkins in the next few days (e.g. Samaje Perine, Jamaal Williams, Kareem Hunt)
Pass on Ingram.
Tom in NY : 4/27/2017 10:51 am : link
He is a run of the mill NFL RB that would cost substantially more in salary & draft pick vs. a rookie.

No thank you.

I like Ingram and would consider swapping a 4th for him - not a 3rd, though.

Considering our track record with 3rd round picks...
Klaatu : 4/27/2017 10:52 am : link
I'd definitely consider it.
Can someone smarter than me explain the CAP ramifications?
Capt. Don : 4/27/2017 10:54 am : link
I have linked the info to his contract below.

He is under contract for two more years.

And made one of the greatest catch-and-runs ever in Super Bowl 25.
I like Ingram
UConn4523 : 4/27/2017 10:54 am : link
but he's always hurt and its really hard to predict performance once a skill player leaves that Saints offense. 5th rounder at the most for me since a 4th can be used in a trade up scenario in this years draft.
If I could get him with a 5th rounder or lower,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 4/27/2017 10:55 am : link
I would do it. I watched him in the Tampa game last year and he still looked good to me.

Is he still in prison? Oh and 3rd and 13
Hell No
ZogZerg : 4/27/2017 11:04 am : link
He would cost a shit load more money than 4th round RB draft pick, in a draft deep at RB.
An evergreen story
Deej : 4/27/2017 11:07 am : link
Mark Ingram's days in N.O. have been reportedly numbered since forever.

How is a running back still young at 27?

But a DE (JPP) the same age a concern for you for the team to franchise or sign long term?
Not trying to be a dick just curious. I would pass and get Blount at our price rather than spend money and a pick.
Normally Yes
HugeS : 4/27/2017 11:16 am : link
But this draft is deep in quality big backs. Why pay a premium for a power back when you might be able to get Perine in the 3rd or a guy like Jamaal Williams or Conner in the 4th or 5th.

Not a 29 year-old Rashad Jennings when he came to us..Young(er) in that sense..He's certainly not old gor a RB in any case
27 for a RB isn't young
UConn4523 : 4/27/2017 11:21 am : link
but I also don't think anyone will want Ingram in a feature role so that can extend his shelf life. Thats another reason why trading for him kinda sucks, he shouldn't see more than 7-10 carries per game at this stage in his career and giving up a mid round asset for him seems pretty pointless.

My major concern for JPP was his back which only gets worse, not better..Didn't feel laying out huge bucks for a 28 year-old was wise..Ingram would not be huge bucks
Wouldn't give them anything more
Keith : 4/27/2017 11:28 am : link
than a 6th rounder. First off, I like Perkins and I think the Giants do too. Secondly, we could get a good back in the mid rounds to compliment Perkins. Not much interest here and I like Ingram.
he's got a $5.2 million cap hit for this year
UConn4523 : 4/27/2017 11:29 am : link
so that alone makes it guaranteed that we have no real interest. That's money to be used on a DT should we not draft one, and any other vets post-draft.

Good pernt(Trying my Art Carney here)
I'm also guessing Blount
UConn4523 : 4/27/2017 11:33 am : link
won't cost more than $1-$1.5 million or so and I'd rather go that route and save the money if we don't come out of the draft with what we want.
team getting him would be on hook for

Blount should be cheaper and won't cost a pick.

.

Two mill. or less, based on the recent signings,
one year deal only for Blount.
I like Ingram and think he is underutilized
Matt M. : 4/27/2017 11:46 am : link
But, there is no way I would trade a pick for him.

Bad play
PaulN : 4/27/2017 12:03 pm : link
Trading or signing veteran running backs is plain and simply stupid in today's game. Draft a running back.
Since we draft at the end of the fourth,
Ira : 4/27/2017 12:13 pm : link
if they aren't taking other teams fourth, they won't take ours. But maybe a 4th and a 6th. I like Ingram. He'd improve our offense.
How bout
Beer Man : 4/27/2017 12:24 pm : link
they keep the 1st they still owe us for Shockey, and give us Ingram instead
I don't think they should trade for him,
732NYG : 4/27/2017 12:40 pm : link
but he is hardly a run of the mill RB and was painfully underutilized a lot of the time in NO. He is a very, very good all-around RB when healthy. His health and his age are his issues.
rather sign blount
msh : 4/27/2017 12:41 pm : link
i like perkins they need a power short yardage back not a more expensive 2 down RB like ingram even use a day 3 pick on deveon smith before i pull the trigger on a trade for ingram if they got offered a 4th they should grab it considering better players only returned 6th round picks in previous seasons
'56
old man : 4/27/2017 12:47 pm : link
Our 4th is +/- first pick of 5th rd, so we'd need to throw in our 6 or 7.
Blount probably would be cheap, but he had 300 carries last year
shockeyisthebest8056 : 4/27/2017 12:48 pm : link
and I'm skeptical about him playing well without that NE fairy dust. And by fairy dust, I mean the threat of Belichick and Brady's feet going up his ass at all times.

Ingram was very good last season.
Our interest in Blount
UConn4523 : 4/27/2017 12:56 pm : link
IMO, isn't as anything more than a short yardage back who can occasionally spell Perkins. I suspect his performance in NE isn't something that anyone thinks will be duplicated.

As a role player on a cheap contract I think he can fit nicely with what this team is trying to do. If he wants a bigger role he can go elsewhere.

guy is frustrating

He's gotten better just about every year
jeff57 : 4/27/2017 2:35 pm : link
Has over 1000 with a 4.8 average. But unless they improve the line, he won't replicate that here. So I'd have to pass on giving up a 3.

chopperhatch : 4/27/2017 3:53 pm : link
Draft this is for RB. I was originally saying "hell yea" to the notion of trading our miserable 3rd rounder for a big bruiser who can also catch the ball. The father-son story not withstanding, I absolutely thought he was worth as much if not more than what we typically get out of our first rounders.

But THIS draft? Theyd be lucktly to get a 6th.
IF they value him as a 3rd
Peppers : 4/27/2017 4:53 pm : link
Its probably because they'd like to use him in a package to trade up in the first.
I'd prefer Ingram to Blount
djm : 4/27/2017 5:44 pm : link
But it's not that simple. Blount is a lot cheaper plus no compensation.
