Dottino on WFAN

Does not see Giants going OL.

Says focus should be "full service TE", power RB, 3-tech DT, DL depth and 4th corner.

OL prospects do not belong in first 30 picks of this year's draft.

Doesnt think any of these QBs have 1st round talent.

Does not see team going QB. Says next year much better opportunity for QBs.
Says Giants methodology
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:51 am : link
is if grades are razor thin difference/equal you go defense.
Dottino would take Njoku at 23
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:51 am : link
"hands down"
It's either a RB or a pass rusher
Mark C : 4/27/2017 10:52 am : link
in round one. Bowser or Cook.
Except, what franchise QB
Big Blue '56 : 4/27/2017 10:52 am : link
would be available at 32 in '18?
Mentions Taco Charlton and Humphrey
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:52 am : link
as defensive players valued close to 23.
Just mentioned Zach Cunningham
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:53 am : link
as his prediction at 23.

Don't buy that. If they have 'equal' grades on a WR and LB, I see them taking the WR 9 times out of 10. Ignoring QB, it's probably more a hierarchy like:

DE/pass rusher
CB
WR
LT
...
High on the RB Perine...
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:54 am : link
Believes he is the perfect back for this team.

"Natrone Means clone"
Not in Reese's DNA
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:55 am : link
to trade in round 1.

Believes cemented at 23.

Dottino believes they will be tempted to move up in rounds 2 or 3. Especially for Oklahoma RB.
could be wrong
Rocky369 : 4/27/2017 10:56 am : link
but hasn't he been more off than on?
Njoku, Humphrey and Charlton will all be considered at 23
Chris684 : 4/27/2017 10:57 am : link
but Cunningham will be pick.

Mentions Wormley in round 2.

Mentions Sprinkle or Kittle as TEs later on.
I couldn't agree more with Dottino
Jay on the Island : 4/27/2017 10:57 am : link
in regards to the QB's. We should find Eli's successor in next years draft when the options are superior.

I'm sure there will be a higher graded QB (and therefore, a better shot of being an NFL started) available at 32 next year than is available at 23 this year. So, why waste the pick this year?

One that won't likely be any worse than any available at 23 this year anyway?

Teams seem set on reaching big for QBs that most years would be second or third rounders this year; let the Giants not be one of those suckers.
Humphrey is a possibility
jeff57 : 4/27/2017 11:17 am : link
We know how Reese loves the DBs, and he has NFL bloodlines, which the Giants usually like.

He was my pick in the prediction thread. No idea if he "falls" but if he does I completely see us pulling the trigger.
I like
ryanmkeane : 4/27/2017 11:25 am : link
Humphrey a lot but the lack of ball skills is a bit of a downer.
I believe that the guy from Landry football
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 4/27/2017 11:29 am : link
said Humphrey was pretty overrated, and you could get a better or at least equal CB in round 2.
I like Humphrey's talent...
Amtoft : 4/27/2017 11:56 am : link
it is his attitude that I would pass on. A lot of good CBs will be available in round 2 also.
Humphrey
area junc : 4/27/2017 12:02 pm : link
also plays the unusual brand of CB Spags likes.

Don't worry we can always move up from 32 if our guy slips next year.

Dottino's focus
JonC : 4/27/2017 1:07 pm : link
are positions typically drafted from round 2 (DT) and later under Reese.

Then we will be fine...the media doean't know shit as #23 impossible to predict.

They barely know things at #10.
I am warming to the idea of drafting a guy like Kevin King
GiantJake : 4/27/2017 1:23 pm : link
He's 6'3" and ran a 4.4. He's played every DB position plus slot corner. He has some technique stuff to work on and isn't a finished product, but he's got the size and speed to matchup against bigger receivers and TEs. There are some questions about his ability versus smaller, quicker WRs but that's what Jenkins, Apple and DRC are for. Adding King (and hopefully getting FS Darian Thompson back) would make a great unit even better.
The Giants Sleeper pick
Archer : 4/27/2017 2:09 pm : link
I have a sneaky suspicion that the Giants will go DL.
I believe that they are looking at edge rushers and that TJ Watt if he is available will be the selection.

Don't want to trade up for Perine. I'd take him. But no trade up.
Jarrad Davis seems like he would go before pick 23.

IMO.
I really hope
Jay on the Island : 4/27/2017 4:12 pm : link
that Denver takes Bolles ahead of the Giants.
Hahaha
Mr. Nickels : 4/27/2017 4:16 pm : link
4th corner yeah that's really a need. Absolute idiocy to suggest that.

You NEED a Defensive Tackle (No more Hankins)

You NEED a Right Guard

You NEED a Right Tackle

You NEED a Tight End

Those are our four NEEDS. Anything else is an attempt to upgrade. You don't NEED a third DE or a Fourth Corner or a Fourth WR.

you must have missed the Green Bay playoff game. And DRC is prob gone after this year, so that 4 becomes a 3 in a hurry, especially if someone gets hurt
I'd say DE is a need.
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/27/2017 4:21 pm : link
Unless you're sold that everyone is going to be healthy all year and Okwara is a sure bet to be counted on. And I don't know anyone would think that.

Considering how much we run 3 CBs which is most of the time yes we do need a 4th CB. DRC is in his last year with us and we will need a top 3rd CB as soon as next year. I don't want one in round 1, but to say we don't need one is wrong. What happened when one of the 3 CBs went down... we weren't nearly as good. What happened with JPP went down... we weren't nearly as good. I think we are in better shape at RG than depth at CB.
There is a fine line to say CB is need. The problem is that
Jimmy Googs : 4/27/2017 4:43 pm : link
the reserve CBs have been garbage and there is way too much off a drop off from the starters.

The need is not another top of the draft CB. It is for reliable guy(s) that can come off the bench in certain packages and when injuries hit and leave the bulls-eye in the lockerroom.

You don't draft a third DE - you draft a DE.

You don't draft a fourth CB - you draft a CB.

You don't draft a fourth WR - you draft a WR.

You draft talent, preferably using premium picks on premium positions (but that's not etched in stone). You don't draft primarily for need at the expense of talent at other positions.

You don't agree that the giants lean towards defense in round 1? Over the last 12 drafts the giants have gone defense 7 times. Seems like they lean defense to me. Might be marginal but it's there.

So if a corner is sitting there at 23 with an 85 grade and the need players there have grades of 81 you're still taking the 81?

Broken record.
