This may be the year we finally go LB in the 1st round

The_Taxman : 4/27/2017 11:01 am
A little inside info. Take it with a grain of salt. But a friend of mine's father is an area scout for the Patriots and he mentioned to me that Reese and co have gone all out the last week on Watt and see him as a LB/DE hybrid. Where I think he may have been a plan B if Robinson, Ramczyk, and Bolles were all gone, I think Watt is now our plan A with the o-linemen the plan B if Watt is gone.
Watt

is worth the 23rd pick?
Watt is a very good player
Allen in CNJ : 4/27/2017 11:05 am : link
but he's a reach at 23
Watt has been souring up the boards the last couple weeks
The_Taxman : 4/27/2017 11:08 am : link
He may not even be available at 23.
multiple ACL surgeries

2nd round target for us.
Very good player no doubt
bc4life : 4/27/2017 11:12 am : link
but at the point in the draft - he'll be the 23rd best player?

I think he winds up at 4-3 DE in the NFL, but the surgeries is bothersome.
yep

Giants should still have the bitter taste of Odi in their mouth.
are

The Giants have done their due dilligence
The_Taxman : 4/27/2017 11:19 am : link
While the surgeries have hurt his stock, I think his health and knees check out. And I think his athleticism and the fact he has the frame to add 15 pounds really has the Giants interested.
Watt
ryanmkeane : 4/27/2017 11:23 am : link
would be awesome. Great motor, great athlete. Brings extra fire to the defense. Him coming off the edge would be great
Rather Watt than Cunningham

people thought the Texans reached for Watt at 10 when they drafted JJ.
Watt

I really think we see him as a potential DE who can do it all. Rush the passer, stop the run and drop back in coverage.
so should a team
bc4life : 4/27/2017 11:37 am : link
add the weight or keep him where he is and use him as a olb?
Sure I could live that.
chiefmps : 4/27/2017 11:45 am : link
Forest lamp, OG???
Zack Cummingham, ILB. Here to hoping???
Trey Hendrickson, DE. Prefer Demarcus Walker.
Kareem Hunt, RB. Reach... Best RB then.
Eddie Venderdose, DT.
Zack Banner, OT.
Gunner Kiel, QB.

Sure, I could live with the idea of drafting Cummingham in the first round and then draft Taylor Morton in the second round.

That's the question. I think it depends on the system. In a 3-4, LB. In our system, I could see him being a very good DE.
he'll wind up at DE if in a 4-3
JonC : 4/27/2017 12:52 pm : link
you want him closer to the QB and he's got the frame to play at 260+
No thanks on Watt in Rd 1
Jimmy Googs : 4/27/2017 1:08 pm : link
if he is sitting there in Rd 2...maybe.

Nothing special there...
The game is won and lost in the trenches and right now

those are our most glaring needs. Thats why I think its more likely that we pick OL or DT then maybe TE or LB in the 1st. I am in the crowd that would LOVE for the Giants to pick a LBer but as I belive it was Harry Calahan once said, "A man has got to know his limitations" and our limitations is we generally suck at evaluating LBers in the draft.....
Watt ia a 3-4 OLB
BillT : 4/27/2017 3:28 pm : link
Just like Floyd was. He has no position on the Giants just like Floyd didn't. And the only position he might play is occupied by our best LB.
Don't
AcidTest : 4/27/2017 3:31 pm : link
want him. Multiple knee surgeries. Cunningham would be a better pick, just because he's healthy. Watt is not a "clean" player. For that reason, I have a hard time believing he'd be the pick.
Watt

Watt was dominant last year. He was the best defensive player in the big 10.

He has a swagger and shows up for big plays.

He reminds me of Washington's Ryan Kerrigan.

He is a 4-3 end not a 3-4 linebacker. He has played from a (3) point stance. Some will think that he is a LB due to his speed and the way he runs sideline to sideline.

Watt is also a lot larger than he looks. He will carry 265 lbs. @ 6'-4"
Watt like his brother is a late bloomer he is still growing

only if it's an ER linebacker

!
Watt will wind up at DE if in a 4-3
JonC : 4/27/2017 4:26 pm : link
he's not athletic enough to play OLB in space, unless it's in the Ware-type role.

This is why we should target Bowser over both Watt and Cunningham, think he will be the better PRO.
