No pressure to start. Seems like a great kid. Kind of a thin frame will have a chance to fill out and also to learn a pro-style offense. If he works out we can sit through next year's draft watching all the QBs get picked waiting for our pick at 32

If they trade up this has to mean that not only do the giants think Eli's end is closer than we might think and they are concerned with Eli's current level of play. Why trade up unless you want to upgrade sooner rather than later?

No reason NOT to wait until next year's draft. It's not like this is Eli's last season.

Sounds like that'd be the case. Especially if it's Mac leading the charge. Coached Eli intimately for a few years; he'd know better than anybody except maybe Sullivan.

There's some dead money hit involved, but they can cut him after this season.

Frankly, if they draft a QB in R1, even without a trade up, that's what needs to happen -- and they need to commit to it, no cold feet, no matter how this season goes.

I agree. We've been hearing they're attached to 100 guys this week when last season, it was obvious that they were all over Conklin and Floyd. Hey, if it works and someone jumps us to pick someone we don't want, I'm all for it.

is all but conceding they aren't really going for a Super Bowl win. Much to early to give up on that IMO.

This team is built to where they are a few good pieces away from at least having a real chance at making a run at a ring. Why waste this defense without at least doing all they can with surrounding Eli with a little more talent on the offensive end?

It makes sense for McAdoo, a QB guy, to want a fresh lump of clay he can mold. It also may be worth considering that our backup QBs are both excellent athletes like Mahomes is. In that sense, I completely agree with the concept of having three athletic QBs on the depth chart...to me that provides a lot more insurance at the position than if you have different types of players there.

Regardless of whether this happens in this draft, it does (if accurate) tell us where McAdoo's head is. He wants a different type of QB than what Eli is. Given the type of game played today, I can't say I blame him.

That said, this makes me feel old. Where the hell do the years go?

They'd have to likely trade with the Bills or higher, so it might end up even worse than you're projecting.

McAdoo may love him, but this would be insane for this player. Everyone should have to bet their jobs on it, it's so ridiculous.

Russell of Baylor is very similar to Mahomes. If he's healthy, he's a fine option late on day three. This is ridiculous.

But not on a trade up.

If they draft Mahomes, then to some degree that pick dictates the next few years of the franchise. That tells you they're looking for Mahomes to step in as starting QB in 2019 or 2020 -- 2021 at the latest.

If he's Aaron Rodgers to Eli's Brett Favre, then that's the end of the Eli era and we have the pleasure of watching Mahomes for years to come, health and luck permitting, and we could be watching a consistent contender.

Or, if Mahomes is Dave Brown, you're looking at years out of the Lombardi hunt. The Giants would be on a treadmill, playing the new Kent Grahams and Danny Kannells until they find a real QB. They could get lucky and find one cheap, as they did with Kerry Collins, or pay dearly for one, as they did with Eli.
