Ryan Leaf: Letter to my younger self

JohnF : 4/27/2017 6:48 pm
Just read it...it's an interesting take just before the draft.

From The Players' Tribune

Ryan Leaf: Letter to my younger self

It probably won't change people's minds, but I wonder how I would react if faced with the same circumstances. I hope I would do better at that age, but you just don't know unless you're in his shoes.

FYI, "The Players' Tribune" is a great read, IMO.

He

made mistakes. He's paid for them. He's on the rebound. I wish him well.
holy crap
santacruzom : 4/27/2017 7:02 pm : link
he doesn't pull any punches there.
I agree with the OP

Just read it.

It's far more evocative and moving than I ever would have thought it would be.
I have a lot of respect for Leaf now.

It may be a cliche but a fall only defines you if you don't get back up. He's got his life on track and another article I read not too long ago discussed the work he does with other people in recovery, which is a great thing.
I've seen several interviews with him lately...

He has completely turned himself around and is really doing a lot of positive things for a lot of people. Huge props to that guy.

I was there in person and thought he was incredible. Much more impressive than that backup Michigan QB who sat the bench.
Good story

I wish him the best. I worked in SD when the jury was still out on him as a player. One practice I think it was Junior Seau who went out of his way to throw a elbow in Ryan's face. Charger fans knew he was done in SD after that.
God damn, that was a great article

Glad to hear he's put his past behind and has worked to become a better person. Reading this honestly has me a bit choked up.
Good for him

I hope he continues reinventing himself and becomes known for something positive.
Damn.

I did not expect to like Ryan Leaf before reading the article. That was something else. Good for him. Hope he keeps having good days.
I heard Leaf on Sirius NFL Radio

and was really impressed with him this week. He sounds like a totally different guy
That was impressive

Right? Me as well. Reading him talk about his gradual embrace of suicide as an out was heartbreaking, especially the bit about his younger brother.
Also, regarding the OP's comment

of "It probably won't change people's minds..."

That just speaks really poorly of such people's minds.
Seems like a guy that could have been much more successful

if he would have gotten some therapy like Brandon Marshall.
And it is impressive that he has been able to

turn his life around
