are Engram, Adams, and Tye. Ellison is a hybrid FB/TE. You guys are underestimating what Tye does on ST. Eli is also comfortable with him, and he has good hands.
Sure he's not going to beat you deep like Shockey did or block like Cross. But the damn guy has been a serviceable player for us. He was never supposed to be anything more than a backup so don't blame him for the neglect at that position.
It appears McAdoo was REALLY unhappy with last year's TEs
being slow picking up the playbook. If he comes back with a better handle on the offense after a full offseason and another camp, I imagine he's the 3rd guy in the rotation.
Tye was a nice find as a UDFA, but should be no more than a depth guy
Is gone. Adams is 4 on the depth chart....Tye is the backup to Ellison. This pick really effects the WRs. Lewis and King chances at PT just got slashed

Agree. I loved seeing a Seawolf out there for Big Blue. But let's be honest, if Tye isn't with the Giants then he probably won't be in the NFL next season.
... so we can confidently speculate about bottom-of-roster decisions in April. ;o)
Anyway, let's assume that everyone stays healthy and progresses (Adams) or doesn't progress (Tye) as expected. Then Adams should have an edge; but it counts for something that Tye has been a somewhat productive NFL player for two years, after catching on as a tryout candidate from Stony Brook.
One thing to watch for over the next two days is whether the Giants draft a developmental QB. If they don't, that potentially leaves room for an extra body in the TE/FB space (which, with Engram on board, is now the TE/FB/WR space). If they do, roster space will be pretty tight - unless he's another Rhett Bomar and ends up on the practice squad.
talk about guys like Donnell and Tye as if they shot their dogs. These guys are huge overachievers. They're projects. Donnell was a UDFA making a position change. Neither is from a major college football power, neither one cost the Giants a draft pick. They didn't turn out to be Kellen Winslow, but the fact they even became adequate NFL players means they beat the odds.
It's one thing to beat up on guys who have great talent but aren't trying very hard. It's another to beat up on guys who have marginal talent but seem to be working hard -- even if they're not entirely effective.
Tye and Donnell ain't done nothin' to me except play their hearts out for the team I root for. I'm glad the Giants are getting better players, but I don't gloat over them losing their jobs.

Just don't see him having much of a role on this team anymore...He was a very receiving oriented TE, which is Engram's wheelhouse and obviously the Giants are looking for more production at that spot. Plus side is, even with him being not highly regarded as a blocker, he likely won't be much worse than Tye. They brought in Ellison for a blocking improvement, and Adams has good size and should be a decent blocker, with the potential to contribute. I just don't see where Tye fits - he's not the best receiving option, and possibly the worst blocking option (if used right, Engram won't be blocking all too often, but he'll have to run block sometimes and will certainly get some snaps in pass pro). Not knocking the guy, I think he can fill a role and help a team he needs more of a receiving TE, but with our recent adds he's no more than the #3 option, and we have a guy we're hoping can step up a bit there, and at worst is a better option as a blocker, which is more important from the #3 TE and especially with a smaller, quicker receiving TE like Engram.
My guess Ellison full time TE no FB duty, with adams at 2nd and back up

You make a good point but fans get pissed off when any player regardless of draft stock doesn't make a lot of solid plays and often makes devastating mistakes.
IMO though Tye will have a tough time making the roster
Ellison signed
Engram drafted in first round
This. I think LaCosse is the one who lost a spot. Tye is probably going to make the team. King would be the next domino imo.

Excellently stated!
I think they keep 3 TE's and Tye is done.
