Jerry Reese vs the Experts Part Deux

NEWENGLANDGIANTS : 4/28/2017 7:01 am
Jerry drafted TE - Evan Engram with his first pick.

Ourlad's, Frank Coyle, and Nolan Nawrocki all had David Njoku as the best TE available and Engram as the next best. Mel Kiper had Engram as the best TE, followed by Njoku.

Looks to me that Jerry valued Engram's experience (4 years) and leadership (two time captain) over raw talent. Njoku came out after just two years. I would not be surprised if Engram does better as a rookie, but Njoku catches up after a year or two of NFL experience.

As far as the best available player, there was no consensus:

Kiper - Rueben Foster, LB
Coyle - Jabril Peppers DB
Ourlads - Dalvin Cook, RB
Nawrocki - Cam Robinson, OT
I remember the obj year

Anyone think it is possible

they had Engram ranked ahead of Howard? We'll probably never know.
Every year it seems there are 2 guys at same pos ranked about the same

Given the huge difference in production, I think it's possible.

I bet Howard was higher though.
Me personally, out of all of the tight ends,
barens : 4/28/2017 7:28 am : link
I liked Engram the best. I don't think there is even a comparison between Engram and Njoku, Engram has dominated in the SEC, runs a sub 4.42, and the most natural hands catcher at the position.

I don't think Njoku will ever end up being better.
Don't see why Njoku has any higher upside
BillT : 4/28/2017 7:29 am : link
Engram is similar in size, much faster, great route runner, YAC, hands. It's not like Njoku is the size of Gronk with those skills.
Wow didn't know Engram was a 4 years starter
Rjanyg : 4/28/2017 7:32 am : link
And 2 year captain. The reason I liked Njoku was because of his high ceiling. But we are in win now and I think Engram is the most explosive TE in the draft with the best hands and route running. 11 personnel will be more dangerous and well as 2 TE sets.
I can not place it but it just looks like

Engram seems more natural catching and running then the other guy

Ranaan said the 3 guys they had ahead of him went right before the Giants (Howard, Bolles, Davis) and now he's shitting on Reese and calling him too rigid and saying he fucked up. So there's that.

Not to mention the knock on Njoku is that he drops too many.

Njoku is built better for blocking in his body type. Doesn't mean he will, but he's got a better shot.

As if Raanan knows what the Giants' draft board looks like. He knows what they've told him the Giants' draft board looks like. I trust Sy's rankings over what the Giants have leaked.

Oh, I agree with you.
the giants like the good route runners
msh : 4/28/2017 8:29 am : link
engram was the best route running TE in the draft, yes better than howard,i think howard was the better all round TE regards blocking so who knows how the giants had them stacked

they clearly targeted engram and concealed thier intentions should have been more aware with the old miss connection and we know the giants like boston college and old miss players ellis was brought in to be the howard cross type extra blocker and they figure engram for the pass catcher

many experts had engram ahead of njoku the stats favour engram the potential favours njoku they went with the talent/stats over the high ceiling guy probably someone the giants scouts had watched alot and were most comfortable selecting they clearing had engram ahead of njoku not impossible that for them he may have been above howard as well
Two years from now, Njoku may be the best drafted TE but
Ivan15 : 4/28/2017 8:41 am : link
Engram will be the Giants starting WR
NJoku has some bust potential, too
Heisenberg : 4/28/2017 9:03 am : link
There's a far lower chance that Engram is a bust.
Didn't Njoku brush us off
SHO'NUFF : 4/28/2017 1:00 pm : link
so we took him off our board?
