Did everyone catch Evan Engram's comments last night?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 4/28/2017 9:57 am
He seems to be a student of the game and a VERY confident young man. Some of his quotes:

Quote:

Q: Do you feel you are ready to come in and make an immediate impact?

A: I know I’m ready to come in and make an immediate impact. I know for a fact. I’ve been watching the Giants, they’re on TV all the time. I sit down and watch them, especially this past year. I’ve been really analyzing teams and certain offenses. The Giants have been missing a piece like me. They have a great quarterback and I think Tye, 45, was great for them. I felt that I could be another more dynamic piece at that role. I just always felt that they would look at a guy like me to come in and contribute. I know my skillset. I’m confident in my game and how hard I work. Just the weapons around me, I can’t wait to come in and contribute. Learn from all those guys and take advantage of the opportunity to be a great player for this team.

Q: All along did you expect to be a first-round pick?

A: I knew I deserved to be and I knew I should be. It’s just what I bring to the table. I’m so dynamic and so confident in myself. I’m not trying to be cocky or anything because that’s 100 percent not it. I’m just really confident in what I can bring to a team. I definitely believe that I should’ve gotten a call in the first round and that someone was getting one of the most dynamic players and best players in the draft. I knew that I should be and I was just praying that I was. I came back for my senior year and that was one of my goals to solidify a first round pick. God has led me through all of this and to hear that tonight with the New York Giants, I knew that it was going to happen, I knew it should happen and I’m blessed that it did.

New York Giants 1st Round Pick: Tight End Evan Engram - ( New Window )
Nice

Already Love the Engram!
Very diplomatic towards Tye
jeff57 : 4/28/2017 9:59 am : link
Thank God we have a real receiving TE now.
This kid is plugged in
Rjanyg : 4/28/2017 10:00 am : link
The fact that a college player from the south is watching NYG on TV and taking notice is just great.

This is a great fit for both team and player.
EE replacing Tye

Ellison replacing Donnell

TE is no longer a weakness.
In regards to Eli:

Q: Have you ever met him?

A: Yes. He’s always around Ole Miss in the offseason. There’s been a couple of times I’ve caught a couple of balls for him. Just servicing him and running some routes that he needed. It kind of manifested in those moments I guess, this moment right here. I can’t wait to play with him, learn from him and just be a great player for this team.

I like the pick.
Yes,

I read that. Very impressive.
He really seems to be a very smart and very good kid.
SoDev : 4/28/2017 10:03 am : link
I can't see any reason why he won't help us from day 1. Imagine how drastically different training came reports will be regarding TE's, compared to the past few years.

I think he's going to light it up, as he should definitely have the opportunity to. I'd take a risk and draft him high if I played fantasy.
Very Impressive Kid
ZogZerg : 4/28/2017 10:04 am : link
2 year Captain and he actually knows Tye - #45 - is the Giants TE.

Besides what he brings on the field, I really like all the other stuff.
seems easy to root for
annexOPR : 4/28/2017 10:05 am : link
which is always nice

the freak ability / sky high potential is also nice. I love this pick.
Linked below is an interview Engram gave at the Senior Bowl.
Klaatu : 4/28/2017 10:08 am : link
Enjoy.

Personally, I love this kid. Love the pick, even though I never thought it would happen.

Having your QB work out a guy
Vanzetti : 4/28/2017 10:12 am : link
Is worth more than all the tape in the world
Yeah that Tye reference was eye-opening.
bceagle05 : 4/28/2017 10:12 am : link
Pretty cool. We've needed a player like this for quite some time.
I was impressed
ij_reilly : 4/28/2017 10:25 am : link
I couldn't believe this guy new Tye. He obviously had studied the Giants a bit.

The dude sounds like a football player. As "clean" as a team could hope for. No doubt about his love for the game or his effort.

He's going to be what Shockey could have been but never was. Nothing against Shockey, but he partied himself out of greatness.

This guy is going to kill it in the NFL.
yeah
gidiefor : Mod : 4/28/2017 10:25 am : link
I love this pick as well --- this kid is going to open quite a few eyes during the season -- I can't wait to see him ripping it up the seam, snagging the ball in his mitts and blowing through the secondary into the end zone --

this kid is a difference maker - a true upgrade in an area that the Giants use and have made do with very sub par talent
I noticed that too.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 4/28/2017 10:29 am : link
He seemed very confident. If he has a good cockiness, even better.
I like this pick even more
LakeGeorgeGiant : 4/28/2017 10:29 am : link
after reading this.

He is a smart young man, and he is saying all the right things. Confident, but also diplomatic. He sounds like a worker, and there is no question he has the physical skills.

A great pick imv.
He's a good guy. A lot of character and intelligence.
Ira : 4/28/2017 10:31 am : link
That seems to be something the Giants emphasize more than some other teams in the draft process.
.
arcarsenal : 4/28/2017 10:31 am : link
I think Reese nailed another 1st rounder. Love this pick.
good stuff, Eric

Watching his highlight reel
giantsfaninphilly : 4/28/2017 10:35 am : link
I was impressed with his speed, for as tall as he is. Guy can run.
Would love to see a TE screen
Rflairr : 4/28/2017 10:52 am : link
Again. Loved Shockey on those
I like the kid to, but wonder why the team liked him more than Njoku?
Tom in NY : 4/28/2017 10:58 am : link
It was clear that they never really showed much interest in Njoku from the start of the process.

21 years old, big, fast, athletic...willing to block.

Maybe the 11 drops?

I wish we could know what it is they didn't like.
Tom: re Njoku/Engram choice
ij_reilly : 4/28/2017 11:01 am : link
The Giants mentioned they liked Engram's "polish".

Njoku is a bit raw.

I'm betting that was the difference maker for the Giants.
Curious what engram means for adams
jgambrosio : 4/28/2017 11:19 am : link
I know tye was a prospect back in the day but Adams has been talked up more since he was drafted
jgambrosio
Bob in Vt : 4/28/2017 11:31 am : link
If Adams can master the playbook - look for him to move ahead of Tye. A big if, though
I like the pick.
Giant John : 4/28/2017 11:32 am : link
Now get me a running back that moves the pile and runs like a deer. Oh and while I'm asking a lineman that blocks and I'm a happy camper.
How many NFL fans know who Will Tye is?
Mike from SI : 4/28/2017 11:33 am : link
He's not even that fantasy relevant. I can't tell you the non-fantasy-relevant Tight Ends on any teams besides the NFC East ones. Very impressive.
Match-up nightmare
GiantJake : 4/28/2017 11:55 am : link
LBs and safeties cannot cover this guy and it's going to be difficult for smaller CBs as well. It's hard to imagine a team that has the guys to cover OBJ, Marshall, Shepherd, Engram and possibly Shane Vereen? Holy Cow!
love that we took this kid
djm : 4/28/2017 11:57 am : link
again I don't know how or why I missed this. Engram was staring us right in the face all along yet I thought they'd take Njoku. I always seem to get the position right in round 1 but never the player!

Travis Beckum 2.0
Johnny5 : 4/28/2017 11:59 am : link
Hopefully he's not that. lol
I already love him.
Matt M. : 4/28/2017 12:28 pm : link
It seems like either he was targeting teams that would need a TE or the Giants may have been in contact with him (directly or indirectly). Either way, he seems to be ready to roll. I happen to like Tye and think you could do a lot worse than him as your #3 TE (or 4).
Engram can't be that smart
DieHard : 4/28/2017 1:04 pm : link
He said Tye was great for us!

:p
