I know, how dare I start a Yankees thread in the middle of the NFL draft hoopla. But some good / expected news: Didi to make his first start of the season tonight. Gary Sanchez to start his AAA rehab assignment Monday. With a little luck the team could be back to full strength soon.

That was not near a strike - very high. Would like to see a replay of that pitch.
Chapman vs. the heart of the order.

they ruled that Bird swung and, on replay, unfortunately that looked correct.
I like it.
bigbluehoya : 4/28/2017 10:28 pm : link
Now you play the last 3 innings in reverse order.

Chap, Dellin, Clippard. Warren finishes game if we're here for a long time.
I love this team.
Dave in Hoboken : 4/28/2017 10:32 pm : link
And we're getting Sanchez back soon. Insane.
Chapman's elbow looks fine.

I think it's a big mistake not to bunt here
bigbluehoya : 4/28/2017 10:45 pm : link
. And I don't like bunting

Same here. As much as Girardi likes to bunt, I can't believe he's not doing it to get the runner to third.
FUCK. YOU. HEADLEY.
Greg from LI : 4/28/2017 10:49 pm : link
So much for the rejuvenated Chase Headley.
God damnit.
bigbluehoya : 4/28/2017 10:49 pm : link
That was just about the tailor made situation for a bunt.

But no matter.

HOLLIDAYYYYY

Absolutely.

This reminds me of that Red Sox game from a few years ago when they were down 9-0 and came back to win 14-9 or something like that.
Quite a likable bunch

Down 9-1 at one point.
Dave in Hoboken : 4/28/2017 10:54 pm : link
In. Sane.
And let's not forget who started clawing them back into it

Damn, got up to take
section125 : 4/28/2017 10:56 pm : link
a piss after Headley's K, come back and it is all over

Damn this team is fun...

How demoralizing is that to the Orioles.....9-1 / 11-4 and loose.
Bahahaha...watching the Orioles postgame on MASN
Greg from LI : 4/28/2017 10:56 pm : link
Jim Palmer looks like someone just ran over his dog.
And credit where due
mfsd : 4/28/2017 10:58 pm : link
Ellsbury's grand slam to make it 11-8 was huge. Everyone hits!
Lost in this
Dave in Hoboken : 4/28/2017 10:59 pm : link
is this is a nice division win, too. Have to win those home divisional games.
They deserved this one after those two blown games in Baltimore
Greg from LI : 4/28/2017 11:01 pm : link
Thank god for Zach Britton's injury.
Incredible win
DennyInDenville : 4/28/2017 11:02 pm : link
Wow what a crazy wild game

Excellent character shown tonight as a team

The vet/youngster mix seems to be pretty nice.

Didi fit back in like a glove
DennyInDenville : 4/28/2017 11:04 pm : link
Torreyes, Hicks, Romine is a great bench at the 3 levels plus Carters power if needed.

I'd consider playing Hicks over Gardy more often
been watching the Yanks for 40 years
Stu11 : 4/28/2017 11:21 pm : link
I've never seen a game full of long bombs like this. the ball was flying out tonight for both sides. No cheapies. Machado hit one 470. Judge with 2 heat seaking missiles. 2 grand slams. Just insane.
The numbers on the first 5 homers
Greg from LI : 4/28/2017 11:26 pm : link
Machado 470, Trumbo 459, Judge 417 and 435, Ellsbury 420.

Haven't seen distances for Castro or Holliday, but they were serious blasts too.
Ha
bigbluehoya : 4/28/2017 11:26 pm : link
Just saw that Judge's line drive single over the center field wall had exit velocity of 119mph and change.
Set the record since Statcast began

B in ALB : 4/28/2017 11:51 pm : link
Holy. Fuckin. Shit.

These guys are relentless. I love to see that attitude. This is a young team with some good vets mixed in.

That said, CC has to be better.

SP still a concern folks.
This team has some '95 Yankees vibe to it.
bceagle05 : 4/28/2017 11:54 pm : link
Lot of fun to watch.
Judge is currently leading the AL in slugging percentage, tied for the
Del Shofner : 4/29/2017 12:05 am : link
lead in HRs and third in OPS.

And he's technically still a rookie, right?

a LOT has gone wrong so far this year.

and we're still doing pretty well. Tied for the division lead and the best record in the AL. It's early - but it's a little later every day.
How great has this been?

this is the fastest and most effective rebuild I've ever seen. Think about how many fanbases around the league this is pissing off. I love it.

I'm with you on this. This is not just a rebuilding year, unless there are some super teams lurking out there we haven't seen yet. I think this version of the Yanks can compete. I went to one of the Cardinals gams at YS - the Cards looked terrible compared to us. I thought the Bosox looked weak compared to us. And I'm talking all phases of the game - not just hitting and pitching but defense and baserunning.

The O's are the bogeymen in the AL East this year but I think we really f*cked with their minds tonight. This was a terrible loss for them.

I guess the Indians and the Cubs are lurking, so we'll see about that. And we did look weak against the Pirates. But still ...

Starting with our friends who root for that team over in Queens. A year ago they were quite certain they had about a decade of World Series contention ahead while the Yankees toiled in last place

Well I'm not ready to call them contenders just yet, as kids will go through growing pains. But this has been the most fun Yankee's team to watch in years. Bring up a bunch of hungry kids with nothing to lose and everything to prove, and let them have fun.
