Carl Banks on WFAN

Areas should look to improve at start of draft were LB, TE, RB.

No scouting reports on OL had them as can't miss. Unless a prospect like Tyron Smith you can no longer count on OL to come in and start due to NCAA "they don't practice anymore" It's now "baptism by fire" for OL.

Why move up for OJ with so many other options? Engram fits with style of offense. Dynamic playmakers.
Why give up

2nd and 3rd rounders when the Giants "do work" in those rounds?

Engram willing participant in run game but don't NEED him to block.
Likes RB and LB

as possibilities tonight. Mentions Cunningham.
Doesnt see Dalvin Cook as an option.

Why Engram over Njoku?

Impressed with Engram's work in Senior Bowl.

Body of work/competition at Ole Miss and SEC.

Talking about Blunt
Chris684 : 4/28/2017 11:16 am : link
Says he's an option, talking about need for balance. 29th in the run won't cut it.
That's a wrap.

I thought so as well, and really important for Giants fanbase to think about, especially when it comes to Flowers.

And I obviously meant Blount

that Carl was not at all into us picking one of these OT in the 1st rd. It was clear he didn't feel the value was there compared to other positions.
I don't disagree with much,
barens : 4/28/2017 11:33 am : link
but he sees the Giants going with a running back and LB? Granted, it's mostly about the best players available, but that's out in left field. I would think unless the options are don't present themselves, the trenches would be ideal.
You can bitch about the OL
area junc : 4/28/2017 11:38 am : link
(I certainly do) but the Giants O has improved tremendously on paper.

*Marshall replacing Cruz

*Ellison replacing Donnell

*Engram replacing Tye

*Jennings carries going to a 2nd year Perkins

*Vereen back

*Flowers 23 years old, playing a better LT

*Richburg hurt in preseason last year, Pugh banged up throughout the year. Those 2 back healthy is a big organic upgrade, with Flowers maturity.

*And even McAdoo having a year under his belt with his system and program in place.

I think the O could take a similar swing the D did last year. Inept to dominant.

Paul Schwartz was lamenting the OL and how they need to pick one and Banks shut him down. Carl made it clear that none of the available OL prospects graded out as first round guys. The Giants and Reese were correct not to reach. He also talked about OL draftees these days needing 2 to 3 years to transition to the NFL because of limited practice schedules, guys coming out early and the differences between the college and NFL offenses. Most of the top OL prospects are still on the board and there is a reason for that. They are good players, but they are not NFL ready and Engram offers way more value. I will be thrilled if the Giants can grab a Lamp, Dawkins or Moton in Round 2 because now they would represent value.

Agree 100%. carl was strong and spot on. I was disappointed in Diehl there. Carl was basically begging him to join the debate and he was sitting there quiet as a church mouse with nothing to add when this should have been his area of expertise.
Tye will

Think McAdoo wanted the

Engram pick and see him as the answer for the offense. HC was a TE coach and sees this skill set fitting in nicely. Engram is big and athletic enough to help in the blocking scheme supporting Flowers, who cannot be overpowered, but beat by quicker edge rushers. Engram can match up there very well. Guy is football smart and can separate for Eli as a safety valve much like Witten did for Romo.

I like Moton in the 2nd as well
Tye is terrible ...
Spider56 : 4/28/2017 3:35 pm : link
He's to the offense what Markus Kuhn was to the defense ... overachiever who's had his best day and now needs to be moved on.

OL need two to three years to develop because many of them rarely played in a three point stance as part of a spread offense.
I'm proud of the Giants

for NOT taking an Oline in the first. I really thought they'd cave in and reach. I do think they should grab 1-2 of these guys later though.

The compared to Kuhn is ridiculous. Kuan was completely useless, where Tye was at least a serviceable player for 2 years. He's not really a starter, but he wasn't terrible. Kuhn was.
Agree on the offense.
TMS : 4/28/2017 5:35 pm : link
on paper, but worry about the loss of Hankins on defense. We were top ten there especially against the run. It all begins there because our secondary is solid. Maybe in the draft ? Snacks cannot do it all in the middle without help.
