Giants Board

Mr. Nickels : 4/28/2017 12:20 pm
Any guesses as to who the Giants had higher on their board than Engram?

I know they will say they had Engram higher than Howard but that is a lie.

Was our guy really Boles all along?
How do you know it's a lie?

I don't think it was a lie at all....
GuzzaBlue : 4/28/2017 12:23 pm : link
When you look at what both bring to the table - Engram is much more of a weapon IMO and had better college production. He has game breaking speed, can catch and run any route. Howard only really had the blocking on him and not sure by how much. Engram is an underrated blocker.
Obviously

they weren't going to get any of the top 10

I truly believe Reese got that guy they wanted the most this year.
Giants did a great job blowing smoke this year

Ask the Ranaan who was the misinformation guy who got played.

Didnt Ranaan say Bolles was the preferred pick? If so, how do we know he got played?

he's still pedaling that all the giants targets were picked and they panicked and reached.
Didn't one of the insiders
Jay on the Island : 4/28/2017 12:36 pm : link
say that the Giants were going to take Charles Harris if Miami passed?
They may have had Howard higher
AnnapolisMike : 4/28/2017 12:38 pm : link
but not high enough to justify trading away picks to go up and get him.

You don't trade up unless the value presents itself.
Bottom Line
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 4/28/2017 12:46 pm : link
Engram is a much more explosive, much more refined offensive playmaker than Howard. And I, for one, would not be nearly as excited had the Giants picked Charles Harris.

I haven't seen what he has said post draft, but if he's saying that that's pretty hilarious. Almost Half of his top 10 was available, and most of his just missed were available.

He got bad info. Pretty clear
I think if we already didn't have Ellison,
SHO'NUFF : 4/28/2017 12:47 pm : link
maybe JR would've been more aggressive at obtaining Howard. But JR is quoted as saying he didn't think any of the tight ends in the draft this year are great at blocking.
Special teams mentioned twice too
ij_reilly : 4/28/2017 12:54 pm : link
Reading last night's transcripts, Engram's special teams ability was mentioned twice.

That seems like what happened and has what happened a lot in the previous recent draft years

He said multiple time that Jarrad Davis was the Giants guy.

the Giants board is very flexible. Sometimes it flexes to need, which obviously didnt happen this year, since they did not take an T. I think the Giants were sold on Engram big time. Don't know if they were alone in having him so high, but I think they went in to the first round knowing they wanted him and knowing they were going to get him. Seems strange. I'm sure he will be great, but personally, I would have taken Tak McKinley.
Higher than
Doomster : 4/28/2017 1:11 pm : link
Njoku, apparently.....will be interesting to watch both careers....kind of like the RB situation in the 2012 draft......
Engram is more formidable than what we see at first glance
MasherJints : 4/28/2017 1:50 pm : link
Evan is 2 1/2" shorter & 12 lbs lighter than Howard, 1/2" shorter and 10 lbs lighter than Njoku, outside of that Engram is better athletically in every regard than the aforementioned players. Evan is a more dangerous, reliable receiver and much better blocker than given credit. In my opinion he will be a difference maker day one.

Given that he was a product of Old Miss it wouldn't surprise me that Eli may have had the ear of management with inside info and approval. Engram is an asset in the locker room and on the field. As it stands right now I think the Giants have the best and most dangerous receiving corp in the NFL.
ok, fine, but to be clear

wr was seen as a major strength last year, post draft, as well, and yet the O did not really synch properly as the season went on.

Well considering when we drafted Nicks, Reese said he had DHB rated higher and when we picked Aaron Ross he also said he had Revis and Leon Hall rated higher (tried moving up for both). He is pretty honest after the pick is made
Don't forget
NikkiMac : 4/28/2017 2:22 pm : link
Engram is fast what 4'4.7 or something like that I mean he's right up there with Odell and explosive after the catch .I think the pick was Engram Reese nailed it give the guy credit ....... imo Reese ever leaves the Giants he's got a job anywhere although sometimes I wish he was bolder when it comes to wheeling and dealing only New England has been able to do that well and be successful maybe Seattle .
I was told there was no OL of interest at #23

Yeah...and? No one from the Giants' brass - not Reese, Ross, or Mac - ever said who was ranked higher. How can you accuse Reese of lying about something that wasn't said?
Engram is going to be more impactful for us...
KerrysFlask : 4/28/2017 5:05 pm : link
...than Bolles, Davis or Harris would have been. I'm glad they all went right before us if they were indeed rated higher. Very glad we didn't reach and go OL.
