Giants tried to trade up for for QB Patrick Mahomes and were "very disappointed" they weren't able to get it done, per @AnitaMarks.
Especially in a situation where he'll definitely have at least a year or two to learn like he would have here. But, man, I would have been so pissed if they traded a bunch of picks to move up that high to draft a QB.
I'd have thrown the god damn TV out the window if this happened.
Then again, as the Facbeook "on this day" feature has shown me, my prior draft day statuses were:
"FUCK YEAH PRINCE!"
"Pierre Paul are you serious? WTF Reese?!"
"OBJ WAS THE WORST PICK EVER ZACH MARTIN IS ON THE BOARD AND WE TAKE A SMALL WR I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY" (I walked into the house I shared with like 5 other recent grads from HS/college at the time just as the Giants were making the pick, flipped out, and called my Dad to complain that this was the worst pick ever as Martin was on the board).
So I guess if the Giants did this, Mahones would be confirmed as heir apparent.
While we're at it, can we have a moment of silence for the alternate universe where David Wilson stayed healthy? My god, we could really use him right now.
Kizer, Webb, or Dobbs more likely tonight? Or was Mahomes the one guy they considered worthy of building the future around?
Knowing how the Giants do things, they were just floored by Mahomes and felt he was 'The One'. I do wonder if they like Nathan Peterman at all but he's not nearly as exciting. Reminds of Kirk Cousins a bit.
took shots at Eli's play after the season. I think they're more concerned than fans realize.
i think it's just realization that Eli is going to get old. Fans don't want to buy it - we've been hearing "4-5 more years" for about 4 years now.
And when you consider that the FO/coaches look a couple seasons into the future, it's not surprising they made these statements.
Giants are in a tough spot right now - they're close, but still need to prep for the future. Personally, I'd much rather a 1st round pick next year then a 3rd round pick this year who sits for 2 years. But hey, who am I say I won't do a 180 on that around this time next year if Eli plays good, but not great next year, and we get to the NFC Championship Game and lose?
This is a win-now team that needs a backup plan for the young players they putting around Eli to actually win now.
They must have really been down on Nassib. Can't see what the harm would have been to keep him over Johnson if they actually liked him, though I suppose theres a high chance he just didn't want to sign at all. Counterpoint: despite draft chatter, he did end up being a 4th round pick...
Sam Darnold is the truth. We [hopefully] have zero shot at him, but god damn, that kid has Eli's pocket presence, Rodgers ability to keep his eyes down field and throw on the run, and most importantly, Eli's demeanor - perfect for a high profile team in NYC. Plus he's played at LA's most successful and popular pro team already anyway.
He is so good that I would give up a 1st and two 2nds to get him (casual fan eyeball test of course - real scouts can chime in, but he looks like the god damn goods).
So it wasn't just Bill O'Brien who was impressed...
"I think my personality and how real I am, those are things beyond what I can do on the field that he likes. It seemed like the way I was answering questions, I think he knew that I knew what was going on."
p.s.--It would surprise me if the Giants made a serious offer to jump into the top ten for him. More likely they were exploring options for trading up into the top 20 if he fell past Arizona and into the 18 or 19 range. And they had to realize the likelihood of him getting past Arizona was pretty damn small.

Just how, exactly, do the Giants do things?
And how do you know they were "just floored" by Mahomes?
Aren't you the guy who said they were in love with Gerald Everett?
There's a difference. Garafolo stated clearly tgat IF HE WAS THERE at 23, it would be Mahomes. So I'm pretty sure they liked the guy. But nowhere in his tweets did Mike G say or imply anything about us trading up for him..
Agreed. Next year's crop is much better, and every year teams panic over QBs. This artificially inflates the market for QBs. Who's going to be better - the 2nd/3rd highest consensus ranked QB this year, or the 4th/5th next year?
Chiefs gave up a #1 and a #3 to move up to get Mahomes. The Giants were four picks ahead of the Chiefs, so they wouldn't have paid any more, and probably a little less. So how much could they really have wanted him?
Giants could not keep a secret again this year.
They were interest in getting Mahomes in a minor trade up but were unwilling to pay the real price of the trade up.
Who saw Engram truly coming over Njoku? I disagree they couldn't keep a secret this year.
I always thought the "misinformation" angle was horse shit, esp after they telegraphed Conklin and Floyd last year, but this year, and last year with Apple being the "fallback", I'm not sure you can say that.
If they wanted an LB, Foster was there (though he may have a totally f'd up rotator cuff)

You have no idea "how the Giants do things" or whether or not they were "floored" by Mahomes. Your act sucks and you're not privy to anything that the common Giants fan is not. Cut the fucking shit already.
RE: As a dude who still isn't sold on McAdoo (but would like to be)
and thinks a lot of Reese's luster has worn off, stories like this aren't helping.
Except there's nothing to this story. Anita Marks got worked/used and Schefter is just repeating her.
The Giants actually pulled off a somewhat successful smokescreen (at regarding trading up) for the first time possibly ever and they can't even get credit for it.

Happy he got a job he was barely qualified for. If he was even a decent OC last year the team could have made a real run. Maybe this year they still can despite him again
That heband Reese wanted to mortgage the future for Mahomes really makes me dislike him more. Machines may become a star but he should be and Reese should more worried about fixing his pathetic offense which was a fucking joke then 2-3 years from now.

This post reads like someone who is fucking drunk wrote it. What the hell are you talking about?
The defense came up small in the 2nd half @ Lambeau, we lost DRC, and Odell had a shitty game. None of those things had anything to do with McAdoo. He did a fine job in his first year and coached this team to its strengths. The fact of the matter is that Eli had a bad season, we had no run game for most of the year and the OL wasn't very good.
We know nothing about what McAdoo pushed or didn't push.
took shots at Eli's play after the season. I think they're more concerned than fans realize.
Eli needs to start taking shots at Reese and his teams inability to put together an OL. Its sucked for 5 years. Unlike Reese he's got too much class to throw people who also fuck up under the bus.
Yea they scored some points but in a year that saw them trailing nearly every week and forced to throw all over the place due to no talent on the defensive side of the ball, the offense was along for the ride. It didn't save coughlins job. It couldn't run the ball when needed. It didn't win. It was slightly above average and that was with everything breaking the right way.
One great playmaker. Average at best OL and then Pugh is done for 6 weeks. No RBs. No TEs. The offense was never as good as we believed and it showed last year. I also don't think it was as bad as popular opinion. It struggled but It played to the scoreboard. Your post is a mess.

I'm not saying this as a joke, I think area junc might have a mental illness and this is part of the reality he operates within.
There's a distinct possibility that there's something wrong and feeling like he's got the goods on the Gmen based on his personal predilections about how he feels the Giants operate, and closeness to the Mara family in his mind, make him express it in a way that comes off as an insider.
Then again, there was the Anthony Davis thread.... but just some food for thought. The internet is a weird place and you never know who you're talking to, and sometimes, I think that when you come across someone who seems off the wall, if they aren't an obvious troll (or douchebag), there's a high chance they're in a situation as described above. And message boards are places that attract many people in these situations.
Sorry, didn't mean to preach. I've thought it for a while cause I've seen some of area junc's posts where it comes off as if he knows the Maras personally or something, and tried to put 2+2 together. But maybe I'm just a bleeding heart douchebag.
area junc, I don't mean that as an insult. In fact, ignore what I just said.

I don't mind not taking that risk.

FYI: The #Giants did not try to trade up for QB Patrick Mahomes last night, per sources."
Why is it nauseating: Because Eli was the only friggen offensive player that showed face in Lambeau. He was ready to go beat Dallas again
On the bright side, it didn't happen and every offseason he gets doubted, he beats Tom Brady in Super Bowls and wins Super Bowl MVPs.
Bring it on.

We have some time here.
