I HATE that TC is pulling Familia here. This is not only a must win game, but a get back on track game... and nothing would be better then getting our closer back - Reed has not shone
And acting like an MVP candidate again is just unbelievable. If he keeps this up the Nats are running away with the division. The equivalent would be Wright magically returning and being "Prime Wright" again to team with a perfectly healthy Duda, Ces, ect. That's what's going on with Nats right now. Shit. Good for them..lol.
Yeah, the year Zimmerman is having right now is fucking absurd. That, Harper, and Murphy.. I don't know if we're ever going to catch them even though we still have 5 months to do it. Ugh.
Imagine Familia as the set-up man and Reed in the 7th. Mejia did not have Familia's stuff but his control was better and he seemed mentally tougher--maybe because he was juiced lol
Jeurys was pushed into the closer's role before he was ready mentally imo. I think he is overly sensitive and is embarrassed about the domestic violence stuff. it's hard knowing people think of you as a wife beater. Imagine if everyone knew that about you, i don't imagine it would be too much fun going into work under those circumstances.
I think it will work itself out and Familia will get back on track. However, I do worry about him in the postseason if Mets get there.
history. I liked Mejia in that I felt he had some qualities that were useful on the mound, but he was NOT mentally tougher than Familia. At least not in terms fans could conclude.
every Mejia save was a tighrope. he was very hittable and lacked closer control. Mejia was closer by default, not by choice.
Bobby Parnell was the heir apparent and wasn't very good either, but he needed TJS and it was something that came up in March or April of 2014 so Mejia became the closer with Hawkins support. Mejia gets looked at better because he was a surprise closer. But with a near 1.5 WHIP, it was clear he was not long for the role.
I think it was clear pretty early on that Famlila was the better reliever of the two (Mejia)
Most of us knew Familia was the guy who was going to eventually close - that got accelerated when we lost Mejia right in the beginning of 2015.
I don't think Mejia was ever long for the closer role. He had some nice relief appearances down the stretch in 2014 and things looked promising but I definitely don't think Mejia would have been closing ahead of Familia at this point in time even if the ban had never happened.
But I still think Mejia would have been in the mix as a nice late inning option right now. He had nasty stuff and I feel like he was still learning to succeed in the pen.
Our pen is yucky.
Edgin is our new closer!!!!!!
Great games from TDA, Reyes, TJ, and DeGrom! Finally. A win.
That's baseball for you
Benitez 2.0.

Reyes nearly lost the game again with a late error. I'm glad he's out of his hitting slump, but his defense is killing this team.
He's got to be terrified of what they might find.
