Howard's the better inline blocker, but I think EE is going to be moved around a lot to create mismatches. He could be a queen on the chessboard type of weapon for us. Howard has all the physical gifts, but I'm not sure he's really ever going to live up to how gifted he is.
RE: RE: RE: You've been whining this entire draft.
i love how everyone thinks trading is like taking a piss....you NEED TO HAVE TWO TEAMS TO MAKE A TRADE. another team has to want to move down....im taking engram and webb....not because its what we did but because i like engram and i like the upside of the webb pick especially where we got him. in round 2 id agree but that pick with nobody else as a standout need at 87, webb was a good pick
if you are that unhappy with the Giants. If Howard was that much of a can't miss prospect he wouldn't have lasted until the 19 pick. Howard is not rated that much higher than Engram. In a nutshell, Engram + Webb > Howard.
RE: Just looked at the Eli Apple thread from last years draft.!
Yea b/c we had two teams jump us b/c everyone and their mother knew who we were targeting last year. So contextually it WAS a disaster! Wasn't in reference to Eli Apple as a player.
RE: RE: RE: RE: You've been whining this entire draft.
Not something that is going to bother me after tonight. But like many here (who seem to have suddenly changed their mind) I thought Howard was a perfect fit for our needs and when he lasted past 16 wanted us to go get him. According to the value chart a 3rd rounder would have been more than enough to get him. Seeing what we ended up with makes it an even tougher pill to swallow and I thought it was worth pointing out and having a discussion about it.

pick you don't go for someone with big upside. You go for someone who is ready to start and contribute immediately. This was a bad pick and the Giants got caught with their pants down...again. Every team knew who the Giants wanted and they were leapfrogged twice b/c of it. The Giants are no longer a well run organization. It's time to fire Jerry Reese.
Funny, the guy who runs the offense seems to disagree, but I'm sure you know better.
While I'm sure we won't run 11 personnel 96% of the time this year, it will most definitely still be our primary grouping. Engram isn't starting over OBJ, MArshall and Shep. He's not an inline blocker so not starting over Ellison. He might get put into one of those positions every so often but no, I don't believe he will be a starting player this year (and no, that doesn't mean I don't expect him to get around 60% of snaps).

I stand by that comment (I literally just said the same thing a few comments up). Glad Apple seems to have worked out but he was clearly not who they wanted there.
What kind of dummy decides he knows how the lineup is going to work
11 personnel was a product of the actual personnel on the team last year. We had no player with Engram's skill set. To assume we drafted this kid to have him stand on the sidelines for half of games is quite frankly, fucking moronic.

Ellison.
You don't really think Ellison is going to be on the field for more than 50% of the snaps, do you? He's a situational player.
I swear some of the people on here are performance artists maintaining a character instead of adults trying to convince other adults of the value of their viewpoints
Ellison is not going to be on the field every down and Shepard doesn't need to be on the field every down, either.
Again - the Giants did not draft Evan Engram to have him watch half of the game from the sideline. He's going to play and he's going to play often.
LOL okay. Take Shepard out of the slot and take a good blocking TE out of the game and telegraph your passing plays. Sounds good. If you think Engram is playing much more than 60% (unless its due to injury) of our plays I don't know what to tell you.
And in most drafts, more picks = better chance of hitting on players. I'm not convinced the Giants truly like Howard that much more than Engram - sure he's a better blocker, but we're drafting a TE in the 1st for his receiving ability. If Engram puts up the #'s, even if he's a sub-par blocker no one will care.
Basically, we won't know if the Giants were right or wrong for 3 years or more. But we can't know if they would have been able to trade, just because that's the average value. Could be no team wanted to drop down to 23.

think the same role as bear pascoe, same role will nohnson was supposed to play..
engram will play the role will tye played and engram is not as bad of blocker as you think...
he is going to attack the middle of the field and with 4.4 speed will attract a lot of attention in the middle

From what I know of Engram I don't expect that to be the case at all. If you're trying to utilize his speed you don't line him up our of the backfield (at least not often).

engram can block, he is not larry donnel bad, he is servicable...
Will Tye was on the field for 65% of our downs.... he saw nearly 700 snaps. But yeah, there's no place for Engram to play.
Engram and Ellison are both likely going to be moved around a lot to create mismatches, and get a look at what the defense are doing. You can't do that when you have a shitty oline. They're going to have to utilize an inline TE more than you're anticipating unless Flowers somehow makes a huge leap this year.
that actually suggests the GM should be fired because of the Apple pick and that were are a poorly run organization takes some true balls of stupidity.

I said it was time to fire him b/c of the leaks and the fact that the giants were not a well run organization. They were also were a horrible run team for 4 years in a row. I didn't say to fire him b/c of the single apple pick. To suggest otherwise is simply your trying to be a dick.
why is everyone on here so negative towards other opinions? they're just thoughts. we're all fans of the same squad. we all want the giants to be successfull. too much hate going on.
What a stupid post. As if the Giants had any clue Webb would be on the board #87...or would give up the opportunity to draft him if they did know. You suck.

Dress it up any way you like and it was a moronic comment last year. By a poster with a history of moronic comments. Who apparently stands by moronic comments instead of realizing he's fucking wrong.
That by itself is worse than any insult most can think of.
Or you can look at his two Super Bowl rings. Those by themselves should satisfy most fans, except for the whiny little douchebags among us who have nothing better to do than piss and moan, and who rarely have anything constructive to say.
I think that what has gone on kinda negates the 2 Superbowls
Or at the very least would make me take a closer look at those victories, and just who was responsible.
But we know that's a waste of time with some people.
An objective review of JR's draft history would show an abysmal 2011 and 2012, but 2007-2010 netted a whole bunch of starters and valuable role-players who were integral parts of two championship teams. 2013 to the present seems to have washed the bad taste of 2011 and 2012 out of the mouths of all concerned, except for those who are not interested in an objective review, and do little more than spout off with incessant anti-Reese posts.
There's no doubt that Reese's performance suffered
Or at the very least would make me take a closer look at those victories, and just who was responsible.
But we know that's a waste of time with some people.
Right, the 2007 draft class had no impact and all of the key players in the 2011 Super Bowl weren't Reese picks. Like Jerry had nothing to do with it, even though before he was the GM, he was helping run the drafts with said key players.
When you don't agree with an opinion it becomes about the poster. Typical bbi.
Oh, woe is you!
Act like an ass...again...get called on it, then play the victim card. It's not me, it's BBI!
Act like an ass?! Please tell me where I acted like an aas. Having a different opinion isn't acting like an ass.
Have a different opinion is reasonable. Starting your own thread to rant about it, when every else is fine discussing it on the thread started to discuss it is acting like an ass. Period. The end.
ghost718 literally LIVES to fucking whine about Jerry Reese. It's like Reese personally came by and took a giant dump in his living room and lit it on fire.
Have not once seen this poster contribute anything of value to this board. Every single post is complaining about Reese.
Go root for the fucking Browns, Jets, Bengals, or any other team that is starved for actual success and let us know how it is over there.

I wanted Howard, too, but Engram looks like a great pick, and I REALLY like Webb. In 3 or 4 years, if Webb is our starter, will he still complain about not trading up? This is silly. Howard is a much better blocker, but Engram is much more of a threat. I'd rather have the 3rd rounder and Engram than Howard.

Stop arguing with her arc, she's not worth your time
I'm seriously shocked at any handwringing over the engram pick.
He fills such a huge need, was likely top on the board and it's crazy to me to think people are upset about that one.
I can get the apprehension about the QB but for myself, as someone who didn't like the pick, I just look north a little and think if it's a good enough strategy for BB, I'll give him some time to develop before I get upset about it. Fact is this draft did not play nice with the positional holes we have and I'd rather us stick to the board than reach for needs.
he did this exact same thing last year, this is nothing new
Whining bc I don't like the picks! Should I pretend to be enthusiastic about picks that aren't good?

All the people whining about unimaginative play calling are going to see a huge difference this year. I think for McAdoo to truly run the offense the way he intended, they needed the right versatile pieces, so the same personnel gives you a ton of different looks.
I REALLY hope you're right.

think the same role as bear pascoe, same role will nohnson was supposed to play..
engram will play the role will tye played and engram is not as bad of blocker as you think...
he is going to attack the middle of the field and with 4.4 speed will attract a lot of attention in the middle
'
From what I know of Engram I don't expect that to be the case at all. If you're trying to utilize his speed you don't line him up our of the backfield (at least not often).
who said anytging about lining him up in the backfield?
Assumed that's what you meant when you compared his role to Will Johnson (our FB) and Bear Pascoe who routinely lined up in the backfield. What did you mean?
i saod ellson woild take that role..
engram will line up in the natural tight end spot ehile also splitting out ala jordan reed...
he is going to be a force in the west coast offense, did you see how much better the packers were with jared cook?

You can't do that when you have a shitty oline. They're going to have to utilize an inline TE more than you're anticipating unless Flowers somehow makes a huge leap this year.
he is not a horrible blocker
I said it was time to fire him b/c of the leaks and the fact that the giants were not a well run organization. They were also were a horrible run team for 4 years in a row. I didn't say to fire him b/c of the single apple pick. To suggest otherwise is simply your trying to be a dick.
Lets go Giants.
Dress it up any way you like and it was a moronic comment last year. By a poster with a history of moronic comments. Who apparently stands by moronic comments instead of realizing he's fucking wrong.
A lot.
Lmao maybe we won't be in a base 11 personnel how bout that novel idea?
This
Oh, woe is you!
Act like an ass...again...get called on it, then play the victim card. It's not me, it's BBI!
Well, he was part of my second Master Plan, so I do like him.
Howard doesn't strike me as a guy that wants to win.
correction we are dumb, we are blind homers...god forbid we let these guys play first

Act like an ass?! Please tell me where I acted like an aas. Having a different opinion isn't acting like an ass.

Oh, I'm sorry. I said "ass" when I meant "whiny little douchebag."
You trying to to take Ranaan's job?
Or you can look at his two Super Bowl rings. Those by themselves should satisfy most fans, except for the whiny little douchebags among us who have nothing better to do than piss and moan, and who rarely have anything constructive to say.
But we know that's a waste of time with some people.
Howard is this how? Based on what? Certainly not production in College
But we know that's a waste of time with some people.
You're just being a fucking idiot now
Just thought you should know
But we know that's a waste of time with some people.
Right, the 2007 draft class had no impact and all of the key players in the 2011 Super Bowl weren't Reese picks. Like Jerry had nothing to do with it, even though before he was the GM, he was helping run the drafts with said key players.

Have a different opinion is reasonable. Starting your own thread to rant about it, when every else is fine discussing it on the thread started to discuss it is acting like an ass. Period. The end.
Have not once seen this poster contribute anything of value to this board. Every single post is complaining about Reese.
Go root for the fucking Browns, Jets, Bengals, or any other team that is starved for actual success and let us know how it is over there.
Succinct and cogent. I never expect less

Nah I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing, and not give a shit what you think.
and you can do your thing, that is being wrong most of the time.

ghost718 literally LIVES to fucking whine about Jerry Reese. It's like Reese personally came by and took a giant dump in his living room and lit it on fire.

I'm sure you don't care what I think. Just letting you know that your contributions here are literally worthless.
If that's your goal, cool. The next interesting football point you make will be the first. I can't imagine logging onto this site each and every day to complain about the same thing. But you keep on keepin' on, sweetheart. :)

Stop arguing with her arc, she's not worth your time
Have fun chasing down new users suspected of being dupes
He fills such a huge need, was likely top on the board and it's crazy to me to think people are upset about that one.
I can get the apprehension about the QB but for myself, as someone who didn't like the pick, I just look north a little and think if it's a good enough strategy for BB, I'll give him some time to develop before I get upset about it. Fact is this draft did not play nice with the positional holes we have and I'd rather us stick to the board than reach for needs.
