I would have traded the number 2 pick and the number 3 pick to move up in the 2nd for Forest Lamp. Heaven forbid we add a nice talent to add great versatile depth/starting competition to a postition that can make or break our season etc etc
So it wasn't a planned thing. They, like a lot of NFL teams, seemed to have a much higher grade on Webb. For all you BPA/Value guys, this was a real BPA pick.
they would try to trade back into the 2nd round ( 3&5, + tye maybe?) and get dion dawkins.
im pretty outraged they took a developmental qb and chose again to overlook the dreafull offensive line, again..
The draft isn't over. They could still draft some linemen. They're probably not going to get a stud tackle at this point -- but this draft may not have had any stud tackles, anyway.
Say Pugh tweaks a groin in December and needs a week off.. Jerry has super fresh legs and will look very spry in a pinch or for a week compared to his normally average ish self
no offense, Lamp looks like he'll probably be a good player. But simply no way in hell should we have traded up a potential QB of the future for a guard.
The reason you can say John Jerry is the perfect backup
is because he's a starting caliber RG in the league. He started for more than us. He's been a starter for nearing half a decade. He got thrown in with Newhouse, but Jerry is a higher level player than Marshall.
He's not an all pro, but he's not losing out a starting job to virtually any of these OLs in this class.

It's JRs woodie pick.

On paper, it's DT.
Lamp could play anywhere on the OL or start at RG day 1 and John Jerry becomes a very solid and dependable backup swing guard.
If we cut him no team in the league would sign him.
