Before the crosscheck by Niskanen (despite my belief Niskanen didn't intentionally hit him in the head, Crosby was already off balance from the Ovechkin hits).
Ovechkin has been getting away with dirty playoff play for a decade now. Never been punished for it. I wish i had a dime for all the flying elbows he was throwing in our series' with them 2 and 4 years ago.
But this time he went after the golden child. Maybe the league will finally take notice.
They call it off, confirm goaltender interference. The original review was for the puck going in legally, which it did. Caps challenge for the G interference and win that.

This. I think the hit by Ovie knocked him loopy to begin with. I hate the yinzers and especially crybaby Sid but this is horseshit. Reminiscent of the Hunter hit, if not as egregious. Fuck the caps. Niskanen deserved maybe a double minor at worst but Ovechkin slashed him in the head.
Slept about 8 hours in the last 72 and was looking forward to a nice 6 hours tonight. Now this fucking game is in OT and I can't stop watching. #firstworldproblems

It's only a choke if you end up losing the game. A win and they are back in the series with Murray letang Crosby and hornqvist all out Wednesday. Lucky break. They just have to score next against a depleted team.

Obviously insanely talented, but either Ovechkin was never taught to hit properly or willfully ignores how. He often waits for opponents to turn away and it's right between the numbers. Dangerous.

He sort of fell from the Ovechkin hits right into Niskanen's path; I don't believe Niskanen had any intent to crosscheck him there, IMO. Ovechkin was reckless, it was two quick hits to the upper body/back of the head. That's what should be suspended, not Niskanen.
didn't look like he caught his head with the slash. It obviously caused the fall into Niskanen though. But no way that's suspension worthy in the playoffs
Look at the link in my 8:31 post. Slash to arm that has the blade impact upper chest/neck and the whiplash back and combo of Ovechkin trying to bring his stick up and over has the stick whack the back top of Crosby's head. That 2nd conk on the helmet dazes Crosby, who then slides to his right, off balance eventually into Niskanen's path.
No chance in hell they're suspending Ovi at this point in the playoffs for that. It was dangerous and about the ten thousandth dangerous thing he's done on the ice - but Bettman doesn't have the balls to roll out a suspension for that. I don't think he should, either. Maybe suspend him for like the first couple games of next year if anything.. but that's about all you can do.

I think it was Ovechkin's skate hitting Crosby's skate that really caused the problem as opposed to the slash (which should have been a penalty, I agree). Even as a Caps fan I hope Crosby can play in game 4.
