Name Avery Moss, School Youngstown State, Hgt 6030, Wgt 263
Strong Points: Strong and long frame. Very strong lower body with explosive straight line traits. Can get in to a blocker and grab his way off a block. Strong and active hands. Pursues hard and finishes when near the action. Disruptive, behind the line of scrimmage defender. Has the flexibility to play low. Productive against the run and pass.
Weak Points: Inconsistent pad level and overall technique. Needs to pay more attention to detail. Doesnt show the quick twitch when approaching the blocker. Needs more late movement Doesnt attack his man with a plan.
Summary: Fifth year senior that began his career at Nebraska with a strong redshirt freshman campaign. He was then dismissed from the school for an off field incident and quickly transferred to Youngstown State, who was coached by Bo Pelini, the Head Coach at Nebraska when Moss was originally recruited there. Moss caught fire again in 2016, earning 1st Team All Missouri Valley Conference honors. He has a combination of tools that coaches will want to work with at the next level. He can fit in to most schemes on the edge.
Final Grade: 6th round
Don't know anything about him other than he's a Nebraska transfer
"He was, unfortunately, then banned from playing in 2014 after being convicted of public indecency stemming from charges that he exposed himself to a convenience store worker in 2012. He'd ultimately follow his former Nebraska coach, Bo Pelini, to Youngstown State University in the hopes of starting over.
Playing opposite fellow draft prospect Derek Rivers, Moss would register 59 tackles (17.5 TFL), four forced fumbles ad 10.5 sacks -- numbers good enough to land him All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors."

If Avery Moss isn't a Giants day three target, I don't know who is. Steve Spagnulo type to a T. Tuck/Ayers/Odiggy similarities.
They won't carry 6 DEs and already have JPP, Vernon, Okwara, Owa, Wynn
One injury to any of those guys and that decision gets a lot easier.
Odighizuwa and Wynn look to be on the bubble. Based on how he looked in college and his pre-draft evaluations, Owa has underachieved. But he still has potential. Wynn has overachieved, but seems to have reached his ceiling, and it's relatively low.
You mean there was no decent LB, DB, or OL available at that pick?
This guy does not sound like he is much to write home about. Even NFL.com says he is a 7th-UDFA.
this sounds terrible: "Can unlock and chase to the perimeter or from the backside with plus acceleration. Combines upper body flexibility, foot quickness and length for fast wins in pass rush. Shoulder dip around edge is his go-to move. Burst to the quarterback will catch your eye."
We should have gone Mixon, take the PR hit and had a fantastic backfield.
IK no one cares about a pants dropper 5th who probably gets cut versus a female puncher in the second that makes your O even more dynamic now and the future, but, just saying.
the production. Character problems are why he was dismissed from Nebraska, but that was two years ago. Nothing since. Time to take a chance. Profile - ( New Window )
Absolutely correct. He's going to double down on stupid and show the entire world who knows how bad we need to address the o-line just how wrong the whole world is. I pray this is his last year in NY. He has no imagination to run a draft.

he sure would've shown quite a bit of imagination had he drafted an OL early. by imagination I mean imagining that most of the OL taken early would be day 1 upgrades to the OL. silly Reese played to the strengths of the draft while still addressing "needs". the OL class sucking this year was Reese's fault too.

He's consistent..The same type of posts year 'round..Not sure why he roots(does he?) for the Giants..You know EXACTLY what kind of post you'll see whenever that handle appears..Oh, wait, "I'm objective. I don't drink the Kool-Aid like most on here."
"Hes a worker with great pursuit skills and the motor to make plays on a second attempt. Moss can be a hitter when arriving at the ball and isnt afraid of contact. Hell stick his nose in the backfield on rushing downs and can will his way past blockers. Moss first-step quickness flashed at the FCS level. His arm length and size are worth developing given his motor and work ethic."
We should have gone Mixon, take the PR hit and had a fantastic backfield.
I hear you, but there's a risk/reward thing here.
A 5th-rounder is a lower-risk pick.
There's also a difference between violence and indecent exposure. Picking a guy with violence in his past (multiple incidents, according to some reports) is extra risk. What Moss is absolutely a red flag on his judgment, respect for women, etc., and it's bad, but it's not the same as hitting someone.
represents a prospective rotational pass rushing DE to relieve Osi and Vernon
which, whether people want to admit or not, was a huge need last year. a pass rusher to keep OV/JPP fresh will take this defense to yet another level. great pick.
would be screaming about reaching for O-line while not addressing other apparent needs. Is not D.J. Fluker a better addition than a 5-6 round draft choice in a year notorious for being weak on quality O-lineman?
his character concerns, he might have gone in the third round. My guess is Spags was banging the table for Moss.
As far as OL, I still think we'll take a developmental OT, but remember we signed Fluker, and resigned Jerry. Jerry was better last year, and Flowers and Hart have another year of experience. The "woe is us" stuff about our OL is premature.
The value wasn't there when we picked. Reese rightly doesn't force picks. Stay true to your board.

confused O Linemen with Linebackers in this particular draft.
I figured by the 4th Rd, so they grabbed a decent RB.
Just don't get not drafting one yet, not going bonkers,
but don't understand it. Can he honestly think re-signing
John Jerry and adding Fluker is an upgrade?
Maybe he thinks Ellison is the world's great blocker at TE?
We'll find out how this shakes out.
"In 2012, Moss was convicted of public indecency for exposing himself to another student. Moss was suspended and eventually banned from campus, which would lead to his transfer to Youngstown after sitting out the 2014 season. Projecting him to the NFL, Moss has to get stronger. Hes simply not playing with the upper- or lower-body power needed to beat pro talent. Moss does not yet know how to use his length or hands to disengage from or lock out blockers. Hes a raw player in need of development."

2. Lift weights
3. Listen to coach
"Too reliant upon athleticism at point of attack. Needs to learn to set and control the edge with greater force. Underdeveloped instincts against the run. Plus arm length is somewhat negated by basic hand skills as pass rusher. Hands work a little wide and go dormant at the top of the rush. Hasn't learned to clear his frame when blockers land first. Wasn't challenged enough since move from Nebraska. Character must be vetted. Banned from Nebraska's campus in 2014 following 2012 incident where he exposed himself to female student"
New York Giants: Avery Moss, DE, Youngstown State: D Grade
As mentioned before, I'm not going to give out Millen grades in the fifth round, so the Giants are spared. It makes sense that they added an edge rusher, but Avery Moss was kicked out of Nebraska and also tested poorly in pre-draft workouts. I don't know what the upside is with this pick.

tweet earlier this offseason where he seemed to walk away set off alarms in East Rutherford and the Giants decided to move pass rusher up the need chart a bit to protect themselves if they can't count on him.
Damontre Moore v2.0. Same athletic profile, same play style, same stupidity. At least they only wasted a 5th round pick this time instead of a 3rd.
Or he was drunk at a party, thought he was getting waved into home, showed his dick to a girl, and she over reacted. Who knows man. That's the only thing he did. Fact is we don't know the details and he hasn't had an incident since...
odigzawa, bromley, moore, kuhn, austin, tracy, henderson suggests the giants wiff on a DL player about once a draft. the only exception under reese's tenure is 2010 when they drafted JPP and linval with their first couple of picks. i guess jay alford was half decent. but this moss dude works out but the odds are very low.
Doens't sound like his skill set and/or potential makes putting up with this guy worthwhile.
And the line "weren't you ever 17" is offense too. Yes, I was 17 once and I made mistakes and did stupid things, but I never pulled Willie out unless his presence was requested. Whoops come to think of it, that didn't happen until my twenties...Retarded I suppose by today's lack of standards.

Marty, have you ever seen a draft with such a dearth of good OL in the first 3 rounds or so?
I know. Right?

I like that the Jints are not forcing the issue
I suspect that they will be looking at some vet castoffs come camp time
Still need a back up cb...

Any CBs left that you'd be happy with or simply a major crapshoot from here on out?
I assume they keep OO over him due to "upside"/draft price ... but I guess neither is safe at this point.
Moss will make the team.

I was hoping for Brian Allen ... would be great in that Grant/3 Safety look Spags used to run
We could use a backup safety also and they might have better luck with a S at this point
No sounds like a weiner! 🤣🤣🤣

whats the big deal? It's college. It's not like he raped anyone. He flashed his butt at someone as a freshman.
