He got poked in the eye in training camp (or preseason game) and didn't realize he was blind in one eye when drafted. I remember that draft well and every mock had Philips going top four
Than he found them in. That 97 team was built to last if not for the one fatal flaw -- no qb. Young had a great beginning and middle but his 3rd quarter was bad. Probably somewhat unavoidable but if he had just found a qb for that late 90s team his legacy would not have been tarnished at all. It shouldn't be tarnished to begin with. He saved us. The late 90s doesn't change that. It all led to today.
rate your top five and at least one will be available. How hard is that?
Especially in a 4 player draft. It was obvious that there were 4 top players plus Phillips, and there was a good chance that Phillips would not go top 4.
Coming in and bringing every draft bust of his over guys like McCaffrey and Landeta was really the end of that era. Can't remember butndodnt hey cause Pepper away too? Tommy 4 INTS Maddox. Reeves was such an arrogant dick about bringing his mistakes.
At the start we thought for sure Phillips was going top four. As the first three played out We were convinced Phillips was going to the Ravens, giving us Ogden. We were all psyched. It was WTF moment.
RE: The rules changed and Young didn't adjust but Reeves

Every coach brings in "their guys" so to speak. How many former Giants followed Tuna around?
Young did not Leave this team barren he left a Super Bowl roster
I don't get it

Armstead was an 8th round pick
Charles Way was a 6th round pick
Strahan, Sehorn, Toomer, Tiki and Sparks were 2nd round picks.
He always missed the 1st round pick from 1991 on and that's where we got in trouble
Ed McCaffrey was a 3rd round pick (but we didn't keep him)

And he hired Jim Fassel.
The main pieces of the 2000 Super Bowl roster on offense, defense and coaching were put there by Young.
The team just pretty much needed to add Kerry Collins.
I mean winning an Conference title and going to the Super Bowl is no small feat. Just ask the Jets who haven't accomplished that in 47 seasons.
Heck, Strahan and Toomer were huge contributors to our 2007 Super Bowl team.
Young did a great job and left the team loaded.
