Have hopes for Perkins. Didn't and don't like Gallman, but hope I'm wrong. I still want to see more talent added to this squad. Perhaps next year.
There wasn't much to choose from on the bench.

As far as McAdoo, he played Perk a lot more down the stretch didn't he? And the thing about RJ was that you knew he wouldn't lose the football. I don't think McAdoo stayed with Jennings too long.

I agree completely. I was high on Jennings until the end of hte year, when he clearly had no more legs.

That's why I'm hesitant about signing Blount. Running backs can suddenly lose their edge after 30.

He was a good back, protected the ball, punishing runner, picked up the blitz, could catch the ball. Not really spectacular in any regard but he was a solid player. And then, he just lost his ability to run. Eh, Father Time gets us all.

I agree. Plus, he's been a head case in the past, so I can see them not really going too hard after him. ~1 mill contract, he might be worth a shot. But, I would think they'd go harder after DBs than RBs. Plus, I think Gallman is going to show up big time. I like that pick a lot more now than I did the day of the draft.
But 2016 for both Jennings and Cruz was basically a bridge too far...
Perkins should have but you have to default to mcadoos gameplan and not wanting to turn the ball over. Greatly increasing reps to a mid round rookie could backfire and slowly increasing his reps was a smart move which our defense allowed us to get away with.
McAdoo didn't just refuse to get Perkins involved, it was a calculated decision.
Blount's role should be that of OJ Anderson in 1988. Anderson was traded by the Cardinals to the Giants in 1986 as insurance in case Morris got hurt (he didn't). In 1987, OJ got the ball a grand total of 2 times. By 1988, when OJ was 31 years old, Parcells turned him into a short yardage and power back. He had 65 carries and got 8 TDs. I don't have the advanced stats on converting first downs, but he was one of the best in the NFL. And then OJ got his job back in 1989 when Morris got hurt and went back on his way again. The point is, Blount would be here to fill the role for a short yardage/ goal line player, and that should be it. Considering how many times the Giants bogged down last year, and only had 6 rushing TDs all year, Blount is a fit for what the Giants need in 2017.
Is he experienced and basically just as good as some others in our current RB group...yes. But wouldn't really be additive.
If injuries occur this summer then I could change my view, but stop looking at his New England production and saying sign him...
Those were all of our weapons aside from OBJ the last few years. That is what Eli was working with. Not even NFL level talent.
This is dumb and completely ignores the concept that a player can differentiate from one year to the next. Especially a RB, which we've already seen in the league be great one year, then fall off a cliff around age 30.
I still think a vet presence is needed in this backfield, if injuries occur....

Perkins missed most of camp and wasn't coached enough on blocking to start right away. He still saw offensive snaps by week 4 and more than 10 carries in week 9. He ended the season with over a 100 carries. I think Gallman will play earlier and be a faster contributor given his breadth of experience in college.
He would have been drafted last year but went back to get better fundamentals. I think we're going to see some of those benefits.

Perkins and King.
That being said, i think the issues with the offense went well beyond personnel. There was something fundamentally wrong with the scheme of McAddoos offense - the ridiculously high percentage used for the same formation on offense was no doubt one of the symptoms of that.
Moving on from Jennings and Cruz as featured players will help, but there's a lot more that needs to be done to get things fixed.
Jennings is JAG. Time for something else.

They gave the job to Perkins eventually.
King is 28 years old and had a higher number of teams he played for than career receptions (2). Let's not do this.
