NFT: NHL Conference Finals Thread

pganut : 5/12/2017 1:09 pm
I figured since neither are game 7s, pj's old thread wasn't fair to the new series about to start in each conference. Also lets us start fresh and not have to sort through some of the dreck from the other thread.

Let's keep our own teams and offseason thoughts out of this - there's already a NYR thread for that, and I'll refrain from Isles chatter here as well. But the IIHF tourney is also fair game to discuss on this thread since it overlaps with this round.

Preds-Ducks drop the puck tonight at 9pm in Anaheim; Sens-Pens tomorrow at 7pm in Yinzburgh.

Head says ANA-PIT final. Heart wants NSH-OTT final. Who ya got?

you can probably scratch ANA off the list of teams the Rangers are likely to poach a young defensemen from.

I don't think Rinne having higher odds than any single individual Dman

Invalidates my crediting of the defense.

Perhaps, but ANA still needs to figure out how they approach expansion. Vegas would be all too happy to snatch and stash one of those two guys if left unprotected.

My head says an easy Pitt win, but maybe we have a chance to get "lucky" once again and shock the world. Either way, I will be happy to be rid of the most repugnant fanbase in sports.

Good luck, Andy!
Sounds like

Kelly in for the Sens and Schultz in for Pens.

Seen conflicting info on Hornqvist, last I saw, he's out.
Furious

pace to the start of this game. Both goalies up to the task so far.
Kessel
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 8:22 pm : link
hit someone, can't remember the last time i saw that.

Almost 10 minutes without a whistle.

incredible first half of the period.

teams actually playing looser than I expected for a game 7.
Wow
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 8:35 pm : link
awful call in any game, let alone a game 7.

Sens to the PP.

I'd like to see it, I'm a PK fan, but I doubt it.

Great period
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 8:47 pm : link
let's see if they can keep up this pace for 40 more minutes.

Pens break the ice
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:20 pm : link
Sheary getting better as the game goes on
Crud
pganut : 5/25/2017 9:21 pm : link
But that was a really nice play from Sheary to Kunitz.

Wow! What a response by Ottawa.
Sens
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:21 pm : link
answer right back, Karlsson the best passing defensemen in the league
Anderson
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:31 pm : link
making some ridiculous saves again. I guess the strategy of hope your goalie stands on his head and score timely goals might work.

they're letting them play, other than the awful slash on the Pens in the first. I prefer letting them play than calling ticky tack stuff.
Have to call the high stick
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:36 pm : link
Sens on the PP.

Sens seems like they're crushing on the face-offs.
The Pens PK has done a good job here
pganut : 5/25/2017 9:40 pm : link
Easily killed most of it.

It'll be interesting to watch Karlsson in the 3rd. Wonder how much gas he has in the tank. Regardless, this has been everything you could hope for in a Game 7.
Tied at the end of 2
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:40 pm : link
great period.

Methot with a great hip check on Malkin after Malkin broke up a breakaway.

the penguins seem to me to be tiring more than the Sens. You notice it more in your own end than in the offensive zone. I saw quite a few times in the second period the pens looking at each other in their own end when there were loose pucks and the Sens won the battle because of the hesitation. That usually means to me you're getting tired.
Funny, I thought the Ottawa D looked like it was tiring
pganut : 5/25/2017 9:53 pm : link
Outside of Methot's physicality, since the tying goal, I thought they looked to be laboring a bit. No matter, both sides need to dig deep here. This should be a fun 20 minutes to come.

Probably, with the ferocious forechecks by both teams it wouldn't shock me. I still see Karlsson skating out with the forwards, so he seems to have legs still. I just noticed it more with the Penguins, maybe because Schultz hasn't played in a while and Hainsey is a bottom pair D playing top pair minutes.

Phaneuf has struggled some.
Oh
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 9:59 pm : link
and Maatta has struggled. A lot.
If this goes to OT

penalty, I need to see a replay, but I don't think Kessel was going to get there
Looked like
pjcas18 : 5/25/2017 10:17 pm : link
Kessel dove too, still dumb I don't think Kessel was going to beat the other D.
That's a dive but equally as bad as the first penalty
Andy in Halifax : 5/25/2017 10:17 pm : link
Of the game. Not digging this right now though. We're tired, this will be a tough kill

goal and that's it in regulation, need OT
Sort of expected there, I think

And we're getting jobbed
