In 2016, only six offensive lineman posted a worse grade at their position than Franklin did with his mark of 47.5. A fact that should serve as even more of a gut-punch when considering that score was actually up almost seven points from the season prior.
The Bolts’ front office could reach out to Franklin before making any roster move in a proactive effort to get him to restructure his current deal. But after playing at a level commensurate with the absolute worst at his position for two straight seasons, it’s probably best for both sides that each go their separate ways.
OL Chargers cut: Fluker, Dunbar?, now Franklin? And now at least 2 rookie OL?
I hope Rivers lost some weight so he can run faster, since he's not usually bright enough to hit the ground when pressured.
but leaving that organization is probably a good thing regardless of player. He's 29, i'm guessing he will land somewhere and probably play better when he does.
Signing Franklin would mean that the Giants would lose either Hart, Bisnowaty, Wheeler, or Dunker.
Not sure that losing Wheeler or Dunker is much of a loss at this point.... a proven OL with experience isn't as valuable as two undrafted rookies, one of which has off the field issues? Not sure I agree

Proven to be what though? Sounds like he's been lousy for a number of years.

He is a 29 year old who has been among the worst offensive linemen in football over the past two years. At least with Wheeler and Dunker there is an upside.

He's been among the worst guards in football. He was successful in Denver as a RT and was far better than Fluker ever was.
Good grief! Every used up player that is cut between now and Â
Not sure about that, dj. The fact that he's not willing to give up on Flowers should not be seen as an endorsement of his play. Reese's comments are clear indications of his view that EF has to improve his play.
however he was rated as one of the worst guards in all of football last year. i know PFF is no perfect science but if hes ranked that low than there is probably a sound reason behind it. the chargers drafted guards in both round 2 & 3, so they were obviously very high on replacing / ugrading franklin https://www.profootballrumors.com/2017/05/chargers-release-g-orlando-franklin/email - ( New Window )

If Flowers falters again this year, our offense will be limited as we'll need to constantly help him out.
I wonder if veteran Fluker beats out Hart for RT? And is a clear cut improvement??
But my gut tells me that our OT play will be much improved and that isn't saying much how bad we were last year.
RE: Good grief! Every used up player that is cut between now and Â
opening day some one will post we should sign him! Please, think, younger, healthier, and faster!
Why should this year be different from any other year?
Truth. Every year, it is the same old story. Sign the cut veteran. LOL. Maybe after June 1st some decent, worthy veteran could come free but outside of that I doubt anyone worth anything will be coming.

A starter gets cut at a position of need, and people are discussing his merits or lack thereof. I don't see why that should be a surprise. I don't see a lot of people beating the drum too loudly.
On my list of annoyances around here, this kind of thread is near the bottom. ;)

Chargers should release Orlando Franklin, his $7.6M cap hit - ( New Window )

No, he isn't a LG. He is a RT who was asked to play LG.
Someone called Preston to ask about him, but the call was dropped.

Two of Franklin's high school teammates are former Giants; Preston Parker and Jayron Hosley.

Haha, and the call didn't go through to Jayron's cell phone due to poor coverage.
