No matter how you slice it, Pop is 100 percent right. You can read the article but listen to what he says and he is spot on about this dirty play.
It was an awful play and puts a black mark on what the Warriors are, unfortunately.

I think that guy is more of a problem than anyone wants to admit.
But I really don't think that Kerr being sidelined has left any sort of opening for others in the organization to endorse sweeping the leg as a tactic. I dunno, that sounds a little far-fetched.
Somebody should have asked him about defending Bowen all of those years. Bowen was much worse. Great defender but he didn't care about hurting the other guy.
I get not liking the Warriors for Green I guess. I mean, we all root for a team with Beckham on it so it strikes me as a bit of hypocrisy, but whatever... that's sports for you.
But holding Pachulia against the Warriors? He's a stop gap whose time in the team is limited, not some face of the franchise.
"The people who cry about it are just frustrated about going against Bruce. I told him, 'You just be Bruce Bowen. You're the best [bleeping] defender in the league. You will NOT change the way you play defense." - Pop, 2006
Nothing, but the Beckham stuff is consistently overblown by fan and media alike.
Comparatively, Green gets a pass. Maybe because West Coast and few people care.
Green is an asshole. An awesome player, but he's absolutely and asshole.

If you're seeing something there youre looking too hard to find something.
It's tough to listen to this guy whine
Popovich defended his play for years. Now he's on the other end and he's outraged. What an asshole.

what has Beckham done that's even close to the dirty played that Green routinely displays?

What's the ratio of NBA games Green has played in to NFL games Beckham has played in? 10-1, conservatively? And yet, this supposed highlight reel of his dirty plays is actually shorter than Beckham's.
Green had three notable, notorious groin kicks in the pkayoffs out of almost 500 career games, but somehow Beckham's notorious 1 game out of 45-ish isn't on the same scale? Again, that's sports for you.

Other than making zero play on the ball and positioning his foot not once but twice directly where Green might land? Nothing at all.
Was that the same game too?
He did nothing wrong there. Not close to stepping under a 3 pt shooter. It was under the basket. He stepped toward a guy and swipes at the ball. Then did it again.
That was nothing. Even when you watch it in slow motion.
Every game stuff under a basket.
Popovich hypocrisy aside, the play seems dirty.
It seems like every analyst agrees that putting your foot under a jump shooter is dirty. Getting your feet under a guy shooting a fadeaway by taking three steps into the guy after his shot seems clearly like an attempt to - at the least - fuck with his bum ankle or - at the worst - break or severely sprain his ankle so he's out for at least a week if not a month or more.
I don't see how Pachulia warrants any defending. Popovich may warrant some schadenfreude. I wouldn't know exactly in this case, but I've never heard that he's a dirty coach.
I'm just depressed that I have to root for whinny Lebron again, since this Warriors team is so fucking obnoxious.
Incidental contact happens all the time. Sometimes a player accidentally gets his foot under a shooter's landing spot during a close out
But it seems to me that Zaza's movement was unnatural and it shouldn't happen when a guy is shooting a fade away. Plus, with Zaza's history, and the specific incident of him gator rolling Kawhi's arm which would have broken his arm in half when he was with Dallas, there is no way in which I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
Amen.
Every game stuff under a basket.
Really??? You don't see anything in the Manu video that looks intentional. He is sliding his foot way out and he did it twice! It's so obvious it's comical. It is definitely something guys do on purpose even though at times they do it accidentally as well. It's usually hard to distinguish whether its intentional or not, but the Manu is pretty obvious.
Ginobili doesn't do cheap shit. It was under which basket. Guys move others out trying to get position and certainly use their lower body to do it.
It's not comparable to stepping under jump shooters. IMO, a bad example.
Point about Bowen is Pop defended him for years and he consistently stepped under shooters and tripped people. Pop had no problem with it and defnemded his guy. Bowen was much worse.
Now he's outraged and talking about how players have to take care of each other. He's full of shit. If that was his guy stepping under he'd defend him like he did Bowen.

Yea I see your point about Manu, but given who was involved on the other side would make it more believable. It just seems like he kicks his foot out so far, twice. On a play like that it really is impossible to know unless your Manu himself.
Pop is rediculous beyond belief in regards to Zaza considering Bowen. And you know he enjoyed watching Bowen be as dirty as can be. Not only would he defend his own guy, but he would scoff at the notion it was intentional with that frozen look he gives at "stupid" questions. Pop is a rude POS, IMO. Hell of a coach, just a classy ole DB.
